Is there a word, possibly German, for the feeling of, "I fully believe that you did what you just did with the best of intentions and with no malice, but it was still a very, very, deeply stupid thing to have done, you among all people were expected to know better, and it is going to cause a great deal of heartache for many, pain for some, and an ungodly amount of paperwork for me"?

Ironically, for that we just say "ups"

Yeah, I've had the thought that there should be days when all the teams play. Opening day, Jan. 2, maybe last day of the regular season? Last day before the All-Star break?
Basically, I want the NHL to force themselves into more US national media coverage.

I would actually argue that days that every team plays means less national media coverage because no network is going to televise more than one or two of the games. That's why opening day is 2 or 3 nationally televised games and that's it.

I imagine that Holly took care of the cat people as they were evolving. He probably sent the skutters to bring supplies to them or create a habitat for them.

They did not really go into it.

The skutters props always looked like they could barely do anything. If it is ever rebooted, they need to drastically update them.

according to the books Holly was entirely unaware of what was happening in the supply section of the ship. He didn't even notice them leaving with a ship they built out of spare parts.

presumably he was far too busy finding the worst book ever written.

The whole idea that the technology would last millions of years was pretty far fetched.

Stuff breaks down rather quickly over time. Most of the electronics would have broken down.

    Nah, come on.
The can opener was a sacred artefact because suddenly all this new food was available to them.
There was no-one taking care of them.

There might have not been any way to help them either.

Sub light is the only way they could travel at the time the Dwarf was built so everything was designed to function for a REALLY long time.
Not impossible, just need to vacuums seal any vital electronics and have access to rapid fabrication and a crew of drones to do the work(scutters) and the ram scoop collects a nearly endless amount of hydrogen for the reactors. A machine that can repair itself like that can function indefinitely, or at least till Lister kills it for being a complete psycho or by accident.

I would posit that the Red Dwarf Mining Company did the killing, seeing as any sane individual could see that Lister should never even be put near the words "radiation" and "plating", much less be on a team responsible for securing radiation plating.

That one is on corporate, for sure.

Well to be fair, Captain Hollister knew exactly what muppets he had in maintenance. Lister should not have been assigned- it was a qualified engineering job surely.

Even worse - Hollister didn't reassign his duties to another technician, which meant that Rimmer was working on it alone

There is also the issue of the safety monitor who spilled their drink on their console, and assumed that the first warning messages were connected to that and not the radiation leak

Ah yes, sorry, Rimmer got assigned the task. If you were Cpt Hollister why on earth would you let Rimmer within a mile of engineering.

In fact it's part of the trial later from the criminal mind probe - Rimmer was so hopelessly incompetent he could never have carried out the task.

Well in one side story they travel to a parallel universe where Lister fixed the drive plate, which as it turned out was a design flaw the company wanted to keep under wraps, so the Jupiter Mining Co. paid him enough hush money that he was able to afford to buy the Red Dwarf and become its captain.

It did. The original ending was recorded and is part of the Deleted Scenes for Series 6.
Kryten throws a celebration with some specially reserved chilled margaritas that have been made with real tequila.

The crew toasts defeating thier evil future selves, undoing Starbug's damage as well as the crew's deaths at thier hands thanks to Rimmer's quick thinking and bravery.

They also toast to being just days away from catching up to Red Dwarf.

The crew sips thier margaritas only for them to spit them back out as they're really made with urine recyc. A urine froth mustached crew glares at a sheepish Kryten and the credits roll.

In a way, the problem solves itself because the future versions of themselves blow up the ship and the time drive. That also creates a paradox.
