Overall I'm liking Loki a lot, I'm here for the bonkers plot which is just simple enough to be trackable but chaotic enough to keep you from actually questioning if it makes any sense (of course it doesn't, but they adhere to the nonsense rules that they established so the stakes remain intact). And of course the comedy and banter with Mobius and some of the side characters has been great.

But the drama is really not working for me.
Victor's words to Sylvie about his free will being what caused her to back off worked. But Renslayer is very uncompelling so far, and Miss Minutes wanting to bone zone with Kang does not work as a dramatic plot beat at all. I'm hoping Sylvie gets more interesting but I'm not super optimistic about Renslayer or Miss Minutes as antagonists right now. I don't know how much airtime Majors is going to actually have in this show due to all the...stuff...but I am hoping a villain Kang actually appears to throw things off. Even if Renslayer is a Kang variant she's just not working as a villain for me.

So, there's an outdoor game this weekend. That's fun.

The 2023 Heritage Classic feature the Edmonton Oilers hosting the Calgary Flames at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton. Commonwealth Stadium is the home of the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League, and has a capacity of around 56,000. This game is the 20th anniversary of the NHL's first outdoor regular season game, which was in November of 2003 with Montreal at Edmonton at that same stadium. This will be the first time that Edmonton and Calgary play each other in an outdoor game.

The Game is at 7pm ET (5pm local time) on Sunday, October 29th. In Canada, the game will be broadcast on Sportsnet and streamed on Sportsnet+. In the US, the game will be broadcast on TBS, and streamed on MAX. This will mark the first regular season NHL game ever to air on TBS.

So Shane Pinto has been suspended 41 games for a violation of the NHL's gambling policy. It has been made clear that he did not bet on NHL games, but was another kind of violation.

Pinto is still unsigned by the Sens, but since he is an RFA, the way the suspension will work is that it will be retroactive to Ottawa's first game of the season. He doesn't get paid while being suspended anyway so there's not a situation where being unsigned changes a whole bunch for the overall sitiation as it is. So he basically sits unsigned for half the season, can sign a contract near the end of the suspension, and play the last half of the season. Assuming Ottawa has cleared enough cap space for him to sign by then, which they still need to do.

    Ha!

Also if he wasn’t betting on NHL games I don’t see what the problem is. I’ve seen speculation that it was NFL games and if that’s truly the case, man who cares?

Still don't think it's Sullivan's fault, but the team definitely isn't playing right. If any of those betting apps have a "first coach to be fired this season" bets, I know where I'd put my money.
I feel pretty confident in the Pens ending the Avs win steak tomorrow night. Last night they were getting sloppy and Georgiev has played 6 straight and been below .900 for the last two games.
I hate it when I’m right.

How exactly is this different from Evander Kane's admitted gambling and why wasn't he suspended half a season?

I haven't heard any details yet about Pinto's situation

We don't know details, and even the people in the know don't seem to know a ton, so most of it is speculation. But in Kane's case, the public court documents related to his bankruptcy mostly talk about losing millions at casino gambling, i.e. table games, not sports betting. So if Pinto's thing is about sports betting, it is a different situation and not comparable.

(this is not me endorsing Evander Kane. By all rights he appears to have mostly turned his life around but I still don't think the OIlers should have signed him when they did, and I'm an Oilers fan)

There is speculation with Pinto that it is related to gambling activity that isn't directly betting on hockey, but bordering in illegality. Firedman saying it may be related to "proxy betting" where you get someone to make bets for you, and potentially Pinto doing it in a way that wasn't kosher. Or betting on an app outside of that jurisdiction, which is illegal (i.e. using an Ontario betting app while not in Ontario, something like that)

The biggest thing to understand here, is that the NHLPA was involved in this, helped negotiate the length of the suspension, and is not appealing. If the NHLPA is on board with suspending a player for half a season, then whatever evidence there is/was of what he did, it was pretty clear, and pretty damning.

I'm still listening to the podcast, but 32 thoughts with Elliotte Friedman, who is one of the most plugged in guys in the industry, has pieced together a whole bunch of the Pinto situation.

Friedman does think that it was proxy betting, so Pinto gave his legal betting account to someone else who was using it on his behalf, and that's where the issue began.

Like I said, I'm listening as I type this, but I think this one is worth listening to.

    Yeah, not how I expected
the MCU to end, but hey if this is how it ends, then so be it.

I mean I get the business side of the decision. Most of the OG stars are either out or too pricey these days. Clean slate with a fresh cast is the way to go.

So who do you guys think they will cast as Iron Man? Got to be somebody that can convincingly play a douchebag half the time and a genius the rest. As for Cap, if its not the American actor don't bother with suggestions. Its like James Bond in that regard. Got to be somebody from the US or else.

    Honestly
If Marvel went and canceled the next episodes of Loki and all future MCU projects, I would generally be impressed.

    EDIT: Also I gotta say
Did not expect Timely to immediately get speghettified when he stepped out of the chamber. I figured when he scanned his aura, it uploaded He Who Remains memories and by firing his device into the loom, it would essentially give him control over it and allow him to rebuild his empire.

    Also I'm guessing we're getting
A time loop; things will reset to before people died and everyone who lived will relive events, but with the memories of what happened the first time.

Maybe not go that far, but imagine them just skipping airing the episode next week. No explanation, just radio silence then the week after resume.

Was it just me that noticed a bunch of
    Jurassic Park references sprinkled in

*Miss Minutes doing the Nedry finger wag when she locked them out
*OB's suggestion to reboot the system but they'll lose the containment security systems
*Brad getting got, not from the one he saw, but from the clever girl getting him from behind that he never saw

It just needed someone getting got on a toilet to be complete

For a show that looks so good, you'd think somebody would point out that Sylvie's hair looks like absolute garbage. A mullet might not ever look great, but you can do it to at least look ironically cool. She looks like she's been attacked by a rabid animal.

Yes, but I can forgive the handwaving because we also learned that the End of Time is a very bad place where you will be eaten by the smoke monster from Lost. So pretty much the same thing in most cases, if not as instant.

So I still really feel like
this is all still part of the plan from He Who Remains. He knew Miss Minutes was unstable. He knew she would show Renslayer their shared history. He knew Renslayer would get pissed off and the two would decide they could run the show without He Who Remains. Because that's been the whole point of the exercise: remove He Who Remains from running the show and let somebody else see if they can change things. At a minimum, he wouldn't have to be the one running things or making these horrible decisions. At best, something gets worked out so the TVA doesn't prune timelines and the war doesn't happen.

Really hoping at this point that Renslayer ends up with a similar fate as the room full of helpless, terrified people she had brutally crushed to death, though. She's every bit as monstrous as He Who Remains ever was, except his actions actually drove He Who Remains insane. He climbed to the top out of necessity to stop the insanity of inter-reality war then could find no rational way to stop it happening again. Renslayer mostly just seems pissed off that nobody will back her plan and not at all regretful to be murdering TVA people in cold blood.

I think we're going to find out that the Loom was simply not necessary for an unlimited multiverse, though. Oroboros states it exists to weave raw time into reality, except time existed before the TVA. The multiverse existed before the TVA. It was only after He Who Remains made the TVA and wiped out the other Kangs and began enforcing the Sacred Timeline that I think the Loom was needed, in order to take an acceptable number of limited realities and merge them into a largely cohesive single universe. Until the Loom is destroyed, the multiverse can't properly move on because the Loom is still limiting possibilities. So this may be the point where things start to really splinter and go off the rails since the TVA will have nothing limiting any timeline any longer. Every moment in every reality spawning infinite parallel realities forever, with no convergence point anywhere.

    Latest episode speculation
Do we think Victor Timely is really dead? Ouroboros apparently learnt everything he knew from him, but that hasn’t happened yet. It’s obviously a time paradox where the knowledge of the TVA apparently has no beginning, Timely taught OB, who in turn indirectly taught Timely through the TVA guide. I’m curious to see how they resolve the paradox. With the theme of free will and self determination being so central to the show, I wonder if they’re leading up to He Who Remains having set up a predestination paradox that events will always lead to his emergence on the timeline.

Timeslipping Loki was pulled from the strands of reality by OB's device and didn't go to the end of time.

Ravonna is, however, probably the one person other than HWR that Ellioth won't eat. IF she can survive the roving bands of Loki, he can probably just walk to the castle and start messing with HWR's stuff.

One thing I really liked in episode four was
we're so used to characters saying, "I don't know if they're going to make it", "Can someone survive that much (whatever)?" "It's going to be a long shot but we have to try". And it's still rare enough for one of those "take our chances and see" events to actually fail that it's just a little satisfying. Every now and then it's good for stories to throw in a situation where people say "they may or may not actually be able to survive this" and have the coin land on "no, they actually couldn't".

I thought they interrupted Timely before he had time to sign his copy of the manual, although that scene definitely ran long enough that he could have signed it before moving on. Or maybe they'll realise he's been pulled across all of time like Loki was and reassemble him.

I will say one lingering frustration for me this season has been
the decided lack of urgency from literally everyone. They talk a lot about how urgent things are, but they never act like it is, what with all the standing around and chatting and general not-running-anywhere. Yes, let's have the phone ring for 30 full seconds before picking it up even though the literal multiverse is ending and we need every second we can get. Good plan, guys.

Honestly it made it all the more satisfying when it ends up they actually ran out of time and failed.
