I got 2 tauforged in a row, I wonder how many decades until I get another.
    Ooooph, conclave mods

can't you get them another way? I think I have all of them but I've only done conclave once for nightwave maybe? it was something like that, or a strange alert I don't recall exactly.

Okay so I’ve got good use for Raiden. I’ll try for her.

Superconduct is pretty underwhelming. I wouldn't use Raiden for that unless she's specifically being paired with Eula, since Eula does a lot of physical damage.

She's still generally a good character, though. I was using her as a hyperbloom trigger for a really long time, and recently started using her as a DPS in Furina teams.

Yeah, it's really no good for damage. I wish they would up the phys res shred from superconduct though to make up for that crappy damage. Give Jean another buff for me.

You don't even need super heavy armor for them, since they've got that weird sour spot mechanic on their hitboxes, where if you're right up close on them their normal melees do only a fraction of their normal damage. Obviously high poise and defense makes trading even more favorable, but honestly as long as you're not a total glass cannon I feel like most builds can afford to just take the hits.

How many people actually do good physical damage though? Eula's basically the only dedicated physical character. It's kind of just an abandoned reaction at this point, it definitely should have something done to it.

Even if you're not built for heavy armor wear heavy armor. Havel's set is easy to get and the entire goal is to be able to attack without them being able to stagger you.

The thing about Raiden is she's a huge energy battery. Even if you just have her off-field and providing electro zaps, she keeps your team bursts up almost constantly.

I've used Xinyan before as a physical dps in the spiral abyss. I do not recommend this.

Freminet does some physical damage, and it sounds like he's at least decent at it?

Yeah I know, I'm just saying if you don't feel like changing up your gear you don't even really have to, basically everyone can just tank and trade against four kings. Obviously you can trade better in full Havel's, so practically speaking there's not much reason not to throw it on, but if you don't wanna you don't hafta.

If the ring is removed in the abyss before defeating the four kings you die.

Kiting in this case just means run away to the other end of the room and putting some pillars in smoughs way, while watching Ornstein with manual camera control.

You must not lock on so you can manually control the camera.

Ornstein has a gliding charge that can cover the whole rooms distance. Dodge this and hes temporarily separated from smough, who is still navigating pillars.

Hit him a few times, dodge away, then sprint back to the other end as smough catches up to Ornstein.

    Repeat.

It is really imprtant to not lock on in this fight. Smough's 2nd phase lightning Butt stomp is _the_ classic Souls "Fuck you for locking on" punishment attack.

Actually getting angry thinking about this.

Yep that butt smash is why I died several times. I'd see him go up to prep it but there wasn't anything I could do to avoid it since I was locked on.

Can’t you pretty much just walk to Fontaine anyway?

did they make this even easier in a recent patch or something? I have been on a long break where i had never touched anything fontaine.. but after reinstalling.. there were a few teleport waypoints in the middle that were already enabled and then it was an easy glide right to the main city's Statue of the seven.

The only time I've used lock on in a Souls game since DS1 is when using magic, since otherwise it has a tendency to go in weird directions.

It's a trick feature that gets people killed more often than not in combination with the camera

Unlocking just means I can't track shit and spend all my time trying to figure out the camera and swinging at the air haha.

I feel like most bosses can be defeated with some kind of algorithm approach. If he does x, I do y and particularly identifying when to attack safely.

The first times you die are building an algorithm, often analyzing why you died and what approach could counteract that. Some of them have greater possibility branches and some have more punishing execution requirements.

Eg. O & S I die because there's 2 of them and I can't keep perfect track of them, leading to getting killed from out of my vision focus. Ornstein in particular can close the distance and hit you from almost anywhere. There is no safe gap. The strat Morninglord describes is designed to counter this by separating them.

Summoning Solaire also helps massively as he acts as a distraction.

I just get a feel for how and where my weapon swings, along with how much stagger it may have. Hitting an enemy with a giant sword going in a full 180 degree arc in front of me means I move differently compared to having a rapier that uses only forward thrusts.

Yea those aren't things I track at all haha. I guess weapon range I do but it's not really range that's the issue of being unlocked. Its being lined up.

And since you don't need to think about that while locked, i just don't and stay locked.

Not locking the camera also means I can do "tricks" with where my weapon is going. Things like flipping around to instantly thrust a giant sword in the opposite direction I was facing or looking like I'm winding up a straight chop with a halberd and turning at the last second to catch someone trying to roll away from it

Especially for big bosses that cause the camera to go haywire when they start moving around. Trying to fight someone like Nameless King with lockon would have been a nightmare

Kalameet was a fight I had a lot of trouble with, and was never able to beat.

Until I played Monster Hunter for several hundred hours and went back and obliterated him on the first try by not using the camera lock.

I couldn't say how much time I spend locked on versus not, but I think I'm still mostly locked on, even on fights where people say not to.

But learning to go back and forth without a second thought to, say, hit two or three targets with one swing or cut a tail is very useful.

    This is like watching day9.

The amount of attacks just whiffed due to not locking on... I'm like... the boss would be dead already if even half of those hits had landed!

heh... I was just thinking this would sound great on marimbas, since it really gives me a Steve Reich vibe and sure enough, we've got a version with a complete percussion set!

(though the vibraphone seems a little harsh for the feel of the original version.)
