Sekiro plays very differently from the souls games. You don't have a parry button, it's your normal block, but if you time it correctly, it becomes a deflect. If you miss it, you still block. Some big attacks will cause chip damage if you don't deflect. But you can very much beat the game without being 100% consistent with the perfect blocks. Also, the block/deflect window is activated as soon as you press it, it's not delayed like in the Souls games, so it's so much easier to time.

One tip for new players is to try to avoid spamming your block, and instead go for long, rhythmic presses. This is because if you spam it, the timing window in which it is considered a deflect is reduced so it makes it way harder than it should be. Spacing it out helps you prevent this.

The first time I played the game, I kinda bounced off because I was just coming off from a Soulsborne and I wanted it to play similar to them. I played it again about a month or two later and now it's my favorite From game, and I guess it's my favorite action game as well. The combat is just so good.

Sekiro combat is kind of like a dance. You may have to deflect several times in a row before you can strike back, but every regular enemy has a "rhythm"

Also, some enemies require you to attack them so that you force them to block, such as Genichiro. In one playthrough I had no issues fighting him, but then another time I went against him and all I did was block/deflect, and it became way more difficult. I then remembered I have to be just as aggressive as he is.

The game is very forgiving with attack/block canceling compared to souls games.

Looks like a really good patch to me.

I'm still excited for Arlecchino, but it still appears that I'm going to need some luck to get her. I'll easily hit a 50/50, but I don't think I could make it to pity a second time. Unless there's way more resources to scrounge up in the new stuff than usual.

Next time I play DS2 I think I might try a mainhand dagger offhand sword powerstance. Main reason is just because powerstancing two different weapon types is cooler than powerstancing two of the same weapon type, but I think there might be some real merits to this combo. I'm pretty sure that dagger+sword uses the swords powerstance moveset, which seems like it'd be better than the bash movesets that a lot of mix-and-match powerstances end up with. And the weapons seem like they'd cover eachother alright. Dagger has those good cheesy traits of big crits and crazy speed, so you can scam stuff out with those, and then you've got the powerstance attacks for when you need an actual weapon with like reach and damage to hit stuff with. And powerstancing's weaknesses of being kinda slow and eating a ton of stamina are covered by the crazy fast and stamina cheap dagger, so you can just get those chip hits in while you look for an opening.

Okay, does anyone know if you can restart the whole 30-day gold pass thing if it expires? I got a scary-sounding notification saying "don't forget to refresh your gold pass before it runs out!" And it's still a pretty good deal, but I'd still rather get the 500 gold or whatever you get immediately for starting it up the first time.

pretty sure you always get the 300 gold on purchase, and if you refresh it before the end you just add 30 more days (plus the instant 300 gold)

This is the future. This is what we built. This is what we wanted. It must have been. Because we all had the fucking choice, didn't we? It is only our money that allows commercial culture to flower. If we didn't want to live like this, we could have changed it at any time, by not fucking paying for it.

Did another swing at the Deep this week. Once again it went smooth until the boss encounter, at which point everyone's brains seemed to fall out. Chroma kept eating shit to boss beams, and then the player eventually just preemptively surrendered to death, then was very upset to realize they couldn't res. Atlas and the - I think Mag? - just kept trading places dying while I ran around hucking Exodia Contagion bombs at the eximus spawns to try and keep ahead of them and stop the guardians from stacking up, but eventually because they were doing basically no damage they just died for real and I tapped because fuck.

I really don't WANT to just slide in Revenant as my choice-pick this week, because as far as I'm concerned he's adjacent to cheating, but this week's final mission is so brutally obnoxious that I'm considering it.

My understanding is while they do sell, they sell for a lot less than an unbuilt kit. Also, of course, a kit that's been properly cleaned up/painted/etc. might sell more if it looks good enough.

The Caelid Bell Bearing Hunter hits like a truck that is carrying other trucks, so I threw Carian Retaliation on my Brass Shield and finally put the work in to figure out how to parry. And then I bullied him into the ground and it felt so satisfying.

huh, I wonder if that works on acolytes too

I had some spare taus laying around so I made some tau greens to test on the rogue necramechs.

They do reach 14 corrosive stacks. However, despite this, they don't actually seem to lose any armor. So I guess they just are completely immune to armor reductions.

On a lark I tested Shattering Impact as well and that also doesn't work.

I hate these fuckers I want them to die faster. Especially the corrupted variants, lol.

I feel like the only thing I have that really works on them is basically freezing them with sevagoth's helminthable aura thing so it becomes easy to nail their back hole and spamming excal sword lasers with the augment mod into it for some reason, I'm not sure why they feel like they work better than regular guns but they do to me

The problem with Sevagoth's aura in general is that it would require me to build a second Sevagoth just to consume it, and then if I'm still playing by the time Sevagoth Prime comes out I'd have to just sell my first Sevagoth for credits or something. And that's just wrong, for some reason.

The only reason to own Sevagoth in Deep archemedea is his gloom aura. Which you'll have anyway.
