which was the other, cowboy bebop?
Both of those scenes made me a little sad as well.
I like Otaku Elf. It is nice and comfy.

I finally got around to reading Yakitate!! Japan; I've wondered what it was like for, ooh, a very long time now, ever since it was one of the things that got advertised in the back of Viz collected volumes of other stuff.
It sure goes places I was not expecting it to go. Fun, sure, and the transition from "how to make bread" to basically being entirely based around Japanese puns and increasingly crazed "that was so delicious" reactions is unexpected but relatively gradual. (and acknowledged as being ridiculous by characters in the story, too)
And then there's the ending. I could be wrong, but it feels very much as if the author finished the story, realised they still had to come up with three more chapters to make the last volume be long enough, and just pulled something out of thin air to do that.
I've read manga with good endings where everything is resolved in a satisfying way and loose ends are tied up and it makes sense (Fullmetal Alchemist, for example). I've read manga with bad endings where the author didn't really know when to stop or have a good way to resolve things (Seven Deadly sins, say, which I kept on with for much longer than I should have). I've read manga where the story doesn't really have a resolution, they just stopped telling it. (like Ranma 1/2, which does have a last story arc but explicitly isn't over)
The first ending of Yakitate!! Japan makes sense -- I mean, the way the actual story is going is totally ridiculous by that point, but as far as resolving the overall plot goes, sure, it makes sense. But the actual last chapters feel like the author put a brick on the accelerator pedal, pointed the story at a wall, let it story get up to 100 miles per hour, and just hung on until impact. (to be fair, there _is_ a 'three years later' bit, but by that time I don't know if there's a way to come back)
Details behind spoilers, in case people haven't read it, and because it is hard to imagine just how far off the rails it goes. (and this also doesn't really spoil the story up, the final bit is pretty disconnected from everything that has gone before)
The third person eats the bread and becomes, again literally and with explicit acknowledgement of the copyright issues, Dhalsim from Street Fighter. Who then uses his yoga floating powers to lift all the continents on the planet up into the air, out of the oceans, and thus avoid the rising sea levels.

Also a judge who was entirely willing to go the full distance with reactions, up to and including the time they nearly committed suicide to turn themselves into boiled jelly for the sake of a pun.
Fuck Crunchyroll.
tl:dr for folks
it was CR union-busting
I read the whole of both. Compared to Vs Berserk is pretty muted. Sorry not sorry, stand by what I said.
It definitely seems like one of the more annoying-to-translate ones, because the art refers to the puns very directly, meaning they had to come up with "this pizza bread is more than it Tapirs to be" because by that point the tapir they're referring to had been around for a half-dozen pages.
I think my favorite was when they're up against the main (animated) character from the adverts for a company that sells mostly seaweed-based products, where the reaction to the excellence of their bread is that all of a sudden the entire comic becomes drawn in the style of "Impressionist Claude Monet", representing "Nori's Optimum Delicateness".
I wonder how long the anime will take to get there.

Fuck you for that end card.
Anyway, today's WfM was great and also brutal.

Yeah... Ok... Yep...
But the closer to the end we are getting, the more I start to think that writers really want to do some things but are not sure how, so they just... push square shaped blocks into triangle shaped holes, hoping for the best
Spoilers from episodes 18 - 20
And this episode, we get two of problems like that:
Guel wants to fight Shadiq and he is motivated to do so, Shadiq is also supposed to feel motivated to fight Guel, but instead of, I dont know, making him mad about how Guel treated Miorine at the start of the series, apparently he things that it is Guel's fault that there was a massacre on Earth? Why is he so sure about it?
And then Lauda learns about Guel killing his father, and again: Shadiq, how the heck do you know about it?
Shaddiq knows becase
And the other bit is covered because Shaddiq is an MRA style prick - He views Miorenne as a doll or a trophy, NOT her own person - so she cannot be wrong, only be wronged.
Shaddiq is just a terrible, terrible person is the answer

I think the writers have lost the plot. It’s very “Rocks fall. Everyone dies.”

I still don’t think the show is “bad”, just that I’m disappointed that they seemed to have given up on all of the unique things that they were doing in the first half of season and have kind of defaulted to suffering = plot.
This episode and the previous episode has been the payoff to a lot of long simmering plot lines about how various factions were treated, and it's ended in tragedy. This isnt stuff that's come out of the blue - it's been explict from day one that things are hideously unequal in this setting, and something had to give. And when it did give, yeah, a lot of people have ended up dead - and this is shown, because otherwise the show would be shooting itself in the foot. "Oh, bad things happened, but take our words for it" is something shows get rightfully castigated for - Show, Dont tell is a mantra for a reason.
Like what were you expecting Norea to do? Take the fact that her sister-in-arms is dead, and now yet another city (And given the context, the city she almost certainly lived and grew up in) has been flattened by spacians lying down? Of course she lashed out - she fucking HATES spacians, has been shown to have massive anger issues, and had access to horrible weaponry she has zero compunctions about using... oh, and against the faction that repeatedly uses horrible weaponry on her people with zero compunction. She's literally only been taught that "Violence is the only method of communication". No surprise a bunch of kids ended up dead.
I'm struggling to see how this could have ended any other way that wouldn't have massively undercut everything that's happened.

it's very "funny" to me that two of the biggest food shonen series(yakitate and food wars) were both shows which were so ridiculous rails didn't exist for them to go off of but went completely stratospheric in their final arcs. food wars' ending being "we've fired our culinary consultant so actually, all of this was real and there's underground chef mafia competitions for control of the clothes-exploding bloodline" was such a heel turn for me it kind of made me not enjoy the whole work, much like the end of revenge of the sith
