Then I plugged my portable hard drive back in, and my computer chilled out and blue is fine if you unplug the hard drive. Or the cats do.
Why? Fuck if I know!

She's great.
It’s amusing to me that while Propsera clearly has The Absolute Madness Revenge Plan aspect of Char and the Mask, it’s Shaddiq who clearly bears the influence of Char’s whole “just a completely maladjusted sense of interpersonal relationship” deal
edit: obviously this isn't pertinent for WfM
It turns out Wing was the most Tomino Gundam in the end
or, brain powerd/king gainer
Vilda Miren, five years after the Vanadis Incident vs Belmeria, present day:
So that gives sixteen years between the manga and when we see Belmeria
I could be wrong but it does seem like it’s Occam’s razor the whole aspect of how many people survived the raid and subsequent destruction of the facility
Okay to be fair
It's kind of like the dreadnought effect. Where, in real life, the UK creating the dreadnought ended up being a very expensive mistake. It was a new type of ship that could literally blow out of the water any previous ship designs. Britain built it to cement its naval dominance... but then every nation in the world realized that if they could just make a couple of dreadnoughts of their own they'd also obsolete almost the entire Royal Navy. And so then every large nation started spending ludicrous sums of money building fancy new ships... the opposite effect Britain had hoped for.
They do kind of gloss over this in the actual story because they decided they don't have the run time to explain all the world building, I guess, just sort of gesture towards it vaguely but not worry about it because understanding why gundams kill the pilots isn't necessary to get the story, just understanding that they do. I think they could have stood to squeeze in a better explanation for it.
That's a stretch, design-wise
My friends and I have been theorizing for years that Tomino is actually an alien that is observing humanity but not quite getting the whole deal, which is why he swings back and forth from "keen and trenchant observation of human motivations and emotions" to "absolutely bugfuck, no-human-would-ever-say-this-aloud-Yoshiyuki-what-the-fuck" like a metronome.
I've been in enough meetings to know that that is a very common human "interaction."
for another example, it took until some years ago for scientists to figure out why ice is slippery
(the answer: probably gradual melting caused by pressure/friction that leads to a lubricating layer of self-healing water-ice between the object and the ice)
also it took until 2005ish for people to get high-speed photography of bumblebees and figure out how they can fly (it's because they generally flap their wings back and forth, not up and down)
also in 2014 they figured out part of why we sleep (sleeping helps your brain neurons grow in a way that conserves memories) (previous answers included, I am not joking, "I dunno, I guess we sleep because we get sleepy")
also I guess in 2011 they figured out that self-balancing bicycles isn't about gyroscopes as much as it's about the tilt of the steering axis and the location of the front mass
They don't speak to the plane in soothing tones between test flights in hopes that the plane will feel like flying today.
Also I watched the first episode and
Is the head of that school supposed to be an incompetent asshole?
The main girl is alright in her bumbling "gosh aren't I just so earnest" way, but so many of the other characters introduced need to just trip and fall down a well.
I love how I can tell a studio 4*C production in general by vibes but especially when Morimoto's involved. This feels like a slightly more subdued version of whatever the hell was going on in his later short film Dimension Bomb
Subaru is violently self-centered. He never seemed to have learned that no one else has his perspective on things, and gets violently offended when he's reminded of that fact. He also gets violently offended when he's reminded that people have goals that don't align with his own, even when the misalignment isn't hindering him. He also can't share information unless it's a way to show or prove to himself how hardcore/self-sacrificing he is.
cw for personal psychological issues
I hope Subaru starts being more empathic soon.
Yep, they are! The schools leader isn't incompetent, the entire setting of the school is designed to reinforce the existing power structures via teaching the students that might makes right and life isn't fair.
Even their dueling "oath" calls out that it's not just the skill of the pilot that matters - if your mech is a Ferrari and the other guys is just some junker that it's unclear can even move?
Good job, you earned that win by having the better mech.

Basically, don't make the mistake of imagining that this is a fun school where the students cheerfully duel with mechs. It is a corporate battlefield where the richest assholes run rampant, by design.
I've mentioned this before, but the gensis of gundam and it's various stylings is very funny.
See, first you have this Akira Kurosawa guy. Who's films, notably The Hidden Castle, really influenced this George Lucas fellow. Who's Star Wars got stuck in the head of this Tomino guy.
and this is why newtypes and beam sabers exist. It's hilariously recursive!
More seriously: Witch From Mercury is a series that generally really rewards media literacy and paying attention. It's not a flawless work (If anything, it's a bit too fast paced and informationally dense), but it's a series that's done with a LOT of intent, and packs a ton of depth into things. I dont think it's a mistake or fluke that it's popped off the way it has. Even just examining it in the context of Shakespear's The Tempest makes for a LOT of interesting reading eg - Suletta is both Miranda and
I love it!

I think
Vim ends up dying because of his greed and overreach getting him played, losing control of the situation he thoguht he was in charge of with the raid on Plant Quetta, and ends up dying to Guel who kills him unwittingly in self defense and being too naive about the world he’s really engaged in. Now with Guel’s growth a similar situation will be thrown in front of him, and we’ll see through that conflict just how much he’s grown and if it’s enough to now save his loved one from the self-destructive path they’ve thrown themselves down. I think what we’ve seen with Guel vs. Shaddiq that he’s definitely grown in that way (you can read his de-limbing of the Michaelis as a change in technique to avoid risking a killing blow), but it’ll be tested even further now given the state his brother will undoubtedly be in emotionally
There’s also the question if Lauda’s actually Permet augmented or not; my understanding is he’s not adopted, but Vim’s son from a mistress of his (so paternal half brothers with Guel), so I’m not sure if that’s enough of a “not the heir” for Vim to have subjected him to that sort of thing while keeping Guel “pure”
Also the guy who founded/ran the school was a very old school soldier before becoming President of Space Incorporated, so the dueling reflects his own martial philosophies.
We have one, we're talking about stuff over there too, this is still a valid place to be discussing Gundam!

For instance a really weird custom PC case thing where they commissioned an artist to design an original mech and then instead of making the mech for it they just 3D printed a three to four foot tall Aerial statue and slapped some bits onto it like Aerial is badly cosplaying th original commission
Also me posting a lot of Zelda tweets where a dude keeps building statues of mobile suits and mobile armors
I can't watch on Crunchyroll for various (aka stupid) reasons.
I mean, most Vinland Saga episodes fuck me up, but still
