Ugly cried at the latest English volume of the manga though. Multiple times!

Anyway what I'm digging with it right now is just that they're doing a really nice job of kinda writing that late stage of high school where sure everybody's friends but also everybody kinda sees the end of HS coming and are kiiinda ready to get away from a lot of their friends who theyve started to grow apart from. Like Mako has been the perpetual nice girl of the friend group for all of HS, the one who is just kind of expected to look after the needs of all her friends and yet her friends don't ever really look after her, and they're not even grateful to her because it's just what everyone expects of her. And then Mako got this mostly-secret crush on a friend of hers and instead of providing any help to her her friends are just a constant obstacle to her spending time with the person she wants to spend time with, and you can tell that Mako's really just about done with her friend group at this point. She used to like being the needed one and now she wants everyone to just fuck off.
And it's just real impressive character writing that it's been such a clear arc for her to get there, with it being both really clear and yet never explicitly spelled out or explained to the audience.
The problem is we get like 85% on these arcs and then it goes into stall mode while we wait for the series to wrap up. Tomoko and Asuka have basically stopped interacting because they're both so obviously into each other that they have nowhere else to go except to start dating, Minami keeps hanging out with Sachi even though she's Literally Satan, Ucchi's still not come out to her friends, Mako is probably not gonna blow up her friendships that are annoying her, nor is she gonna gonna blow up her relationship with her crush by being way overly clingy, even though it seems to be headed that way. I dunno if it's the writers afraid to slay their golden goose, or editorial who's not OK with anything more than queer subtext, or what, but it's gonna be a real shame if they end up hamstrung finishing this stuff up considering what a good deal they did putting it all together.
Netflix fixed the problem! Why are there so many goddamn onions in here?!
Valid sure. If you count how many posts on the last like, ten pages are WfM spoiler posts, half of which people dance around spoilers outside of the tags as well and the other half are unmarked spoiler replies
It's like 2/3rds of the posts for a given page. WfM seems popular enough to have its own thread, since the other Gundam thread seems decidedly more gunpla than anime focused

This is a thread for talking about breaking news and current issues in the world of labor, both organized and unorganized. Feel free to post articles about the ongoing struggles of workers across the world, be they in big union shops or little mom and pop outfits. As well, matters pertaining to labor like anti-worker practices by governments and workplaces are also welcome.
I'm going to do a bit of a break from the norm in DnD threads and use the OP for links to resources my fellow workers can use to coordinate things like organizing campaigns in the workplace, filing unfair labor practice complaints, or just straight up reporting someone to OSHA for safety violations. I'll edit them in as time goes on.
In the words of countless workers before me: "Workers of the world, unite! All you have to lose are your chains!"
A handy site for workers: The Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Click through to get info on your rights as a worker, where and how to file a complaint against a treacherous employer, report a serious or fatal accident on a work site, and a link for submitting an occupational injury and illness report for 2020 (and soon, 2021!). There are also handy guides for finding out what safety equipment and tools your employer is legally obligated to provide to you as a worker if you don't already know.
A handy site for labor organizers: The National Labor Relations Board. In the same vein as OSHA, this is where you go to file info, links, forms, and decisions about employer vs. employee decisions handed down by the NLRB. You can register a complaint and file relevant paperwork through the site, access and file documents, view your own cases in their handy online portal, and just generally ensure your rights as an employee not to be fucked with so easily by greedy capitalist dogfuckers.
And last but not least: The American Federation of Labor/Congress of Industrial Organizations. This is the landing page for the biggest labor coordination organization outside of the federal government. On this page you'll find links to strike maps, locations for union chapter headquarters in your area (should you feel the desire to perhaps unionize your place of employment 😎 ), guides on organizing your workplace in multiple languages, and links to the websites of unions which may cover labor jurisdictions directly related to your type of work. Give 'em a look and see about maybe injecting some solidarity into your day-to-day life whydonchya.
Oh, and before I forget...

Unbelievable gag comedy series.
Sheesh, at least proofread your trailers, CR...

On the other hand, it starts with a two minute recap, on episode 6, that completely skips multiple episodes. Which doesn't help the feeling that it lost its thread quite a bit.
I'm enjoying Shy, but boy, it really feels weird week to week in terms of where the show is going & what it wants to do here.
Onion-cutting ninjas stabbing me right in the heart. What a reconciliation.
A madman author going as hard as humanly possible!
Incredible paneling showing poignant emotion.
E: Also we're somehow now Mad Max Fury Road.
Really wish the anime rumors coalesce into an anime adaptation announcement, but it's going to need one hell of studio, and hopefully one that doesn't murder its animators.
They're just going back to their roots as a shitty fansub site. Before they became a shitty fansub site that stole from other fansubs.
Goddamn, Monster is such a great show.

It's been a little disappointing to me so far, but that could definitely change if it re-focuses more on the superhero stuff, though from what I secondhand know about the manga, it flipflops between the two things pretty frequently, and unlike, say, Yozakura Quartet, the slice of life stuff never really adds much and is pretty banal.
I do have... opinions on how it handled the disability thing last week, and its budget is pretty unfortunately mediocre. Not bad, by any stretch, but episode 6's attempt at a fight that kept turning into stills with speedlines was definitely something that a better studio/one with more budget would've made into real eyecandy.
...I have no idea why they even bothered to make this an Iseaki, honestly! I'm guessing it's one of those "it's popular, so that's the hook". Because it so far has zero relevance. But as a fantasty story with a chosen one type hero, it's really good so far. Will's fun and interesting as a character, and his backgorund and the time spent to develop that was great. Interested to see where this goes, i'm certianly not regretting watching it currently. It's a nice show.
Though, mild episode 7 spoilers:
That's gonna haunt.

Bee and how seriously she takes barding is great. Really nice take on the Bard/storyteller archtype.
maybe it's just me and my enjoyment of slow paced series, but this is great. Genuinely surprised it's flown under the radar so much. Probably the only unrealistic part is... everyone's so far a fundamentally decent person. Which you know what? Fuck it, it's nice to have something upbeat.

It's still bad though.
Well, not every anime live-action adaptation can be as good as Fist of the North Star...
One thing that amuses me, as a Tolkien fan, is how blatantly the author just... uses names from Tolkien works that maybe the Japanese audience doesn't know, but you get a feeling he DOES know what they mean.
Will's best friend is Meneldor, who in Middle Earth is an eagle and brother of Gwaihir. The elf hero Telperion, who in Middle Earth is one of the Two Trees of Valinor. Valacirca, who, well, you'll see.
It never stops being amusing.
Also yes, Bee is the best.
Well, the god of undeath, specifically, isn't really evil. I remain unconvinced about the one responsible for demons.

I couldn't stop thinking about that as well. It's too on the nose.
I think the only time him being isekai'd has actually mattered was that one time his inner monologue was about how he'd been a NEET who'd wasted his life and thus that's why he's so determined to make something out of his current one?
I'll say this, though: I feel like Faraway Paladin's isekai is still more relevant than that High Elf isekai manga. Which I still enjoy, mind you, it's just... I think the only time the isekai aspect has ever been remotely relevant, in a way that couldn't just have been explained by the MC being a weirdo among High Elves, is that one time he reinvented Japanese paper theater. Which was relevant for, like, a chapter.
Maybe the light novel had it come up more in the internal monologues, I dunno, but in the manga I feel like they could've just made it a Frieren thing and nothing would change.
Honestly bi-weekly is better. We only get bursts of multiple weeks in a row when he's feeling ambitious.
