I just don't think it's a great idea for Frieren to actually run around with her former party members again; I think it has the chance to ruin the entire vibe the manga was going for if not done well.

    Yea I get this.

    (frieren manga spoilers)
the entire point of their journey to the north was to go talk to their ghosts right? But now, she's already in a position where she can talk to them again. All the things she couldn't say before, she could just say now.

I think we might end up getting more time travel shenanigans. The demons seem to have a complicated plan going on with some of them. And with some of them dying off screen. And that one that knows the future.

Freiren's journey isn't just to talk to them again. It's also to work out what to say when she gets there. The second goal is more important. She hasn't figured that out yet.

    Current Frieren manga
I'm not concerned about Frieren being able to talk to the party again at the moment. Because she can't talk to them much when she has no idea if it'll cause issues with the timeline. She wants to speak with the party who slew the Demon Lord, the people she knew for most of their lives even beyond the 10 years of traveling, but this party is still in the middle of its journey and anything she says/does could ruin it all.

Time travel also isn't out of left field considering we've had two different characters who could explicitly see the future and act upon it. Both the Hero of the South and Schlacht the Omniscient could do it and they both ended up killing each other as a result, with the Hero of the South taking out a couple other of the Demon Sages of Destruction in the process. Just because they knew the future doesn't mean they could avert what they saw.

Just wanna say, I think I forgot to mention this, but being Phos...

is no longer suffering. Hasn't been for the past couple chapters. I think the series is just about over. It's currently on chapter 105 and I suspect it'll end up being 108 for... reasons. (Buddhist reasons.)

It took us forever to get through sailor moon s4. It was like good initial set up, then at least 2/3 of the season does not more the plot forward but instead of spreading it between pivotal plot moment episodes like they did in early seasons they stuck all of the monster of the week bits together, then they hyper rush the end which was good and interesting and should have had more room to breathe.

Though, idk if it was for creative or production reasons but so far s5 has been firing on all cylinders. Shit has gotten real. And they are wasting no time

Huh I hadn’t actually noticed, it still flowed so well.

I kind of like the roughness of it, especially for a flashback like this. It’s not how Oda would normally do things, but it works as a memory that, vivid as it is, still has that haze of memory around it. I could almost see it in animation where the sketches are rough, the movements are “low frame rate” in such a way that they linger and feel like a dream in motion, every sound and voice with a slight echo of remembrance than active presence.

4 is the weakest by far, then 5 hits the ground running.

It's both the most serious and the silliest(though it's a toss up between S, sometimes).

The Shueisha editors need to get their rectocranial inversion fixed (especially after one of their own had a fucking stroke) and realize that their weekly model is a fucking death march that needs to end.

Edit: And Weekly Shonen Jump can stay weekly - all they'd need to do is go to a "blue/gold" model where alternating weeks have alternating lineups. Which would also give more series a chance to fucking breathe and develop.

And honestly, the rougher art works for me in this chapter, since it's covering a very dark period for Kuma, and so the rough style helps sell Kuma's struggles and pain.

It's funny, Oda could have a team of 30 people, one staff for each page per chapter, and he'd still be wildly profitable. Then one per week makes sense! Oda directing, sketching, etc. Staff gets it lookin right. Oda can focus on writing outlines and dialogue. Hell, he could have a few writers on staff.

The question is whether Oda would want to be that removed from the art. There was a good point in the interview for The Mysteries where Bill Watterson pointed out that the model of a lead artist leading a creative team didn't really interest hi, which is why he worked to create a true collaboration for the book.

Season 1 of Blue Eye Samurai is absolutely phenomenal. Breakneck pacing with good (if mostly predictable) character arcs on a decently large cast.

Its ending does a great job of balancing the potential for a new season (There's certainly plot threads to tug on) against it being just a good, solid end to all the characters of the show.

    Also dumb shitposty/semi spoiler:
On the one hand sure it's a meditation on power, your place in life and the use of violence (especially in revenge obviously).

On the other hand it really is just 8 episodes about how British blood makes you an eldritch demon who demolishes everything and doesn't die.

Caught up with the Apothecary Diaries manga. (Chapter 65)
    Chap 63: Hey, Jinshi, buddy...

That was f*ng sexual assault you just almost did

Chap 64: Oh, good, he's remorseful.

Ch 65: Maomao definitely has avoidant traits, which makes it hard to determine whether she's avoiding her budding romantic feelings towards Jinshi or if she's ace-aro. I think, if the latter, she'd flinch less when thinking about him.

    It's a very good series.

I went out and got a bookmate sub so I could read the novels. It's ongoing with 9 novels. I'm currently reading book 7.
Oh my god, it keeps happening... Jinshi, you're back on the "needs to be taught about explicit, continuous, enthusiastic consent" list. I sure hope someone gets around to doing that.

Just FYI, the squeenix manga app hosts it (for a high price), but doesn't have all the chapters released so far.

As much as I love their stories there’s a strong argument to be made that Ishinomori and Tezuka set a horrific precedent with how many pages they were pumping out of their studios on the regular.

And even they were basically abusing the hell out of their bodies to make that happen, something that Shigeru Mizuki (GeGeGe no Kitaro, Akuma Kun*) once wrote about in a short comic about a meeting with them during a publisher-hosted party:

    Yeah, this.

You'd need to make some adjustments to the story telling approaches, but fuck, that's not a bad thing.

Honestly at this point I'm of the opinion that manga benefits a ton from the monthly approach (more room to breathe, less need to pull dramatic cliff hangers), and western comics do a lot better when they're on some kind of every 3 months cadence (whatever shape that takes)
