I'm pretty sure Spy X Family S2 has a higher body count than Chainsaw Man.

    On second thought, spoilers
There's a single scene in the Chainsaw Man manga that has a higher body count than 30 seasons of SpyFam would have so...

Just talking about the anime. :P

Ideally you should have read the comic and watched the movie first

I'm probably more on the "just like me fr" side of the spectrum for Bocchi, but I still did find it a fun, easy watch.

An oldie but a goodie chill recommendation is Non Non Biyori. Just 5 or so girls living in the boonies taking one day at a time. Yotsuba would also be great: just a girl and her dad moving to a new city.

Scott Pilgrim would be worth watching or reading independent of the anime coming out. I recommend both.

Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro is a really chill manga once you get pass those really rough first chapters.

Becomes a sweet and wholesome romance manga about two awkward dorks slowly letting themselves admit their feelings.

There's actual personal growth of the two main, and the romance angle doesn't move at a glacial pace.

I'm honestly shocked every chapter how much I enjoy it.

    - About the completion of the return work of the original film -

With the termination of all our business on Thursday, November 30, the return of the original film from our company has been completed.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to all the right holders who responded to and inquired about the confirmation of the original film.

In addition, the original film version that could not be confirmed by the right holder will be managed by TOHO Archive Co., Ltd. in the future.

This is fantastic news, given that it pretty much seemed like what was going to happen was a bunch of unclaimed original film from countless productions that was in Tokyo Lab’s possession (they were the premiere company for processing film for movies and television in Japan) was just going to go in the trash. Toho taking charge is a very welcome development (no pun intended)

I uh, did not like the latest JJK episode. (Episode 19)
Killing off Nobara feels wrong. Like killing off a character like Nanami makes sense: he had a flat character arc and we've basically learned everything about him so him leaving the story is sad but effective. Nobara though is a character who has a ton of potential development so killing her off just feels... like a waste. Like it makes me feel bad but even more so it makes me feel irritated.

Yes, thing in the spoilers above is the first warning sign that there is something wrong with the way author is writing JJK.

Expect problems like that happen more often from this point in the story forward.

I think it is true that you need to first love something in order to hate it - I really loved JJK at one point, and now I am very close to hating it, because thinking about the story is more often than not pissing me off.

JJK episode mades thing way less ambiguous vs the manga.

"I had a good life" vs "it's not that bad" as well as her getting a backstory through the episode and thinking about her recent friends.

It actually managed to hit harder than the manga and piss me off even more

this show reminds me so much of Madoka Magica sometimes. it's "dead dove do not eat" the show. it's "we give you the beautiful arc to prove we can" the show. it's "watch this on your lunch and deeply regret it" the show.

    JJK latest episode vibes
More with GoT final season trying to surprise for the sake of shock and not for the sake of narrative cohesion. Like, the red wedding mad narrative sense and flowed as a natural reaction to events. When Mahito manipulated and killed the kid that Yuji had taken a shine to, that felt like a natural progression of the story.

Kugasaki dying feels like shock for shock’s sake.
    ]

I agree, which is why I am so frustrated with storytelling decisions here.

At least, eh, animation and music and vibes are still very nice?

I've only skimmed the concurrent manga as I've watched the anime but (JJK latest episode)
I thought she just lost an eye, but yeah, the anime makes her look DEAD.

Yeah it's wild how much difference framing can make.

In the manga you see her losing the eye, which makes you think that it's an incredibly surviveable injury and there's no way she'd actually die from that.

While in the anime it's shown from behind, so it looks like her whole head got blasted and her chances are slim to none.

well I read all of what's out for dandadan so far. between that and chainsaw man I think I've hit a hype wall.

I could use something with a lot more chill vibes to offset that

Some ones that haven't got mentioned yet (skipping a bunch of ones which are just "people eat different food each chapter", and romcoms, because there's just be too many of those if I started down that path)
    • Barakamon - calligrapher moves to a small town (also Handa-Kun)
    • Silver Spoon - farming high school
    • A Man and his Cat - a man, and his cat. (laid-back except for one heart-wrenching arc) (edit: it's not sad, just dramatic)
    • ACCA - espionage and pastries
    • Aria - gondola piloting in Space Venice (honestly, almost _too_ chill)
    • Behind the Scenes - high school kids in set-making class
    • Blissful Land - herbal medicine in Tibet
    • Bonnouji - okay, this is a romcom, but it's a _super_ chill one
    • Drops of God - solve wine riddles (the characters themselves get pretty het up, but overall it's pretty relaxing to read)
    • Emma - what if Kaoru Mori drew Downton Abbey (ish)
    • Shirley - what if Kaoru Mori drew Downton Abbey but with a cast of two (Otoyomegatari is fantastic but has too much going on to really count as 'chill')
    • Girls Last Tour - two girls and a motorbike and almost nobody else is alive (it's gloomy, but not a horror)
    • Interviews With Monster Girls - how do monster girls interact with the rest of humanity? (it's very much not Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa, it's a lot more low-key)
    • Mushishi - sprit investigations
    • Planetes - space garbage collection
    • Insomniacs After School - high school kids like astronomy and photography
    • Lady and Oldman - 1960s detecting/thriller. (which sounds not-chill, but the way it's told is very chill)

Wow, damn, Witch From Mercury goes some places. Just got through episode 12, the mid season break I guess?
    Guer kills his dad, oops.
Miornie's dad shields her from harm and is not quite dead yet?
Suletta has a crazy fan who is also a witch.
And hey, Suletta kinda went crazy herself. That end credits stinger where she just splats a dude with the Mecha hand. Just.. damn.

I'm gonna have to let this one sit a bit I think.

    JJK latest episode
Actually the more I think about it, the more I am just pissed at this episode. I am more angry at the content of the episode than I am at being spoiled on future plot developments.

    Yup, it fuckin' sucks.

    Spoilers discussing munkus's spoilers
this is about the point the bottom falls out of the whole plot, in my opinion. Things are just going to be pointlessly grim from here on one, to no real use or benefit.

Yes, JJK hits Darkness Induced Audience Apathy syndrome hard. There is no point in denying it. I am still reading and I will keep reading, hoping for some miraculous recovery, but I do not really believe that the story can be salvaged.

This is also why I love Undead Unluck so much, because it seems like a complete JJK antithesis when it comes to the tone and the way it treats the characters.

It's beyond just that, it sends to have actively
forgotten who it's protagonist is. I actively couldn't tell you what purpose Yuji is serving in the story currently. Last we saw her was about to throw down with the main villain, and then the story cut away from him, and it's not like he's been relevant for a long time before that

This is all coming from my thesis that I repeated here a few times already:

I do not believe that author cares about characters, he cares about fights. He gave Itadori a boring power, so he cannot be used in cool fights, so into the trash of story relevance he goes.

    Another example is
    FULL MANGA SPOILERS
Todo. He gets few cool fights, but loses his power? Into the trash he goes, never to appear or even GET MENTIONED again after Shibuya. Choso is weird brother dude now, bye bye Todo.

God, the hate if flowing through my veins when I think about the story of this series, looking at it with a hindsight.

You ain't wrong. It's wild given the strong dynamics between the main three, and well, where we are now.

    In conclusion, read Akane-Banashi
