Finished Witch from Mercury tonight. What is this, a happy ending in a Gundam series?

Also really love looking back at the "controversy" that bandai made for themselves. The marriage wasn't subtext, they had rings on their fingers and everything. Just wild shit.

    Anyway, that was pretty alright!

I'm still incredibly mad about the Bandai stuff, honestly. I love that show to bits, but it absolutely would have benefited from an extra cour, and it is wild to me how mishandled it seems to have been interms of capitalising on it's intense popularity

    Seriously, what the fuck Bandai?

Finishing YYH Live Action, I don’t know if it’ll get a second season (they’ve definitely condensed things such that they have a lot of greatest hits moments from the first half of the series condensed, quite remarkably well, into five hour long episodes (so still about a cour’s worth of content give or take really). But I think they’ve designed it to not just be self contained if need be, but as a way to work within the limits of modern live action TV should they get the green light for more

What follows is my guess and also spoilers for the adaptation:
so as you probably heard or noticed, Robot and Netflix’s YYH basically adapts four arcs: Yusuke’s death and revival, the theft of the artifacts, the training with Genkai, and the Rescue Yukina and Keiko arcs. However, the big change is that for the live action, they’ve moved all of Team Toguro into the Rescue arc, plucking them from the Dark Tournament.

It also ends pretty soundly such that there can be no Dark Tournament as we remember it. Sakyo is implied to have killed himself, Karasu is dead, Elder Toguro’s a head without the rest of his parts nearby to put himself back together, Gui is a giant full body third degree burn and Toguro is ash and walking the spiral path down to the Worst Hell.

But then there was a lot more Dark Tournament than just Team Toguro, so what do you do with that?

Well… Yu Yu Hakusho does have two tournament arcs, the latter of which, at least by the manga, is on the shorter side compared to how the anime expanded on it.

My guess then is if they get enough seasons, Dark Tournament, sans Team Toguro, gets melded with the Three Kings tournament.

Between those, I could see Season 2 being Maze Castle, which was also skipped right out aside from the Makai insects, Season 3 adapting Chapter Black, and then Season four capping off the series with an amalgam of Dark Tournament and Three Kings’ Makai Budotai as the focus

This allows for fairly short, focused adaptations of the series, while still hitting all the high points, fitting the story into what may wind up being, well, twenty to thirty episodes max.

Just finished Yu Yu Hakusho tonight (thoughts on the show and the future of it below):
Regarding the show quality, it was better than I expected it to be. YYH is one of my favorite animes, but there is some stuff that doesn't work in the original. Kuwabara was given more agency and character (wanting to protect everyone and that's how his power initially comes out, rather than finding a sword with some spirit energy). He wasn't given much to do, but with 5 episodes I'm not surprised. Also, Keiko was given more to do, but that's a low bar given that the anime's treatment of the female characters is....lacking. They still managed to hit some of the high notes of the Togouro stuff, and did leave it open for Sensui with Elder Togouro's head still around.

As for the future, they could somehow have Sensui host the Dark Tournament with some of his crew as his team. Throughout the tournament, you find out he was a spirit detective and he's trying to merge the worlds, but do so in a different way than Sakyo's. You could just have the first episode be the introduction to the tournament, then 3-4 episodes of fights (maybe each episode is a whole match with a team, interspersed with learning about Sensui and what he's trying to do), then a final fight episode where Yusuke dies fighting Sensui and everyone goes apeshit while the tunnel opens.

Then the third season opens wit his resurrection and fight in Demon World, then the crew stays there until the end and transition into the Three Kings tournament, assuming they only get three seasons and want to hit the high notes. Another change they could do would be having Kuwabara represent human/spirit world during the tournament.

I enjoy the Maze Castle arc, but the major thing with that arc was to introduce the team dynamics, and that already happened in the Live Action so there's not a ton of added value by dedicating episodes towards it, unfortunately.

Overall it's not a replacement for the original show, but it's still fun. If you came in without any knowledge of the material, you'd question some motivations and feel that it was rushed, but you'd still have fun with it.

I did not expect CSM to get a movie!

Also, thank God, season 2 of Hell's Paradise got announced. I know that this is not a super popular series like Jujutsu Kaisen / Chainsaw Man / Attack on Titan, but after reading entirety of the manga, I still think it is a good story and I hope that it will get a full, good adaptation.

How much streamlining does the East Blue need? I only remember a couple filler arcs, and I only remember the pacing of the anime being especially bad around Skypeia.

they're making a reze arc movie? I guess that would... trim down a bunch of the rest of part 1 of the manga to make it one cour for a second season, I guess.

    hmm. idk

I think that could probably work fine. The Reze arc isn't all that long, only like 13 chapters, and they're pretty action heavy.

They could get it to 500 by removing just the recaps in every episode. Remove the opening and ending too while they're at it.

I wonder if it is even possible to talk about One Piece without constant mentions of how long it is.

Yeah, it is a long series, for people that like long stories. It could be shorter, and I hope that it will be more condensed in a new adaptation, but I do think that it's size is a flaw in itself.

And, uh, isn't the original anime run still ongoing? Seems a bit... disrespectful to the Toei team?

Also, I'm glad people here aren't upset at another arc being turned into a movie like I've seen elsewhere. I like that we're in a time where anime movies aren't just localized, they get wide releases and I can actually see them in a theater without having to go on a special day at a special time to the middle of nowhere.

Oda considers most of Lougetowns filler canon but otherwise I don't think the anime added much? Its been a while admittedly. The entire opening is structured differently though

Isn't it supposed to be "Roguetown"?

God the basilisk getting un-hidden by the speech bubble is hilarious. Reading this after having had a couple months away from the comic really lets it set in just how effortlessly good Dungeon Meshi is.

Funny thing, they actually did redo all the early one piece anime episodes at one point, because when the show started tv aspect ratio was 4:3 and standard definition and they wanted to bring the first few years in line with the later bulk of episodes so they just remade all of the 4:3 episodes in 16:9
