    Frieren Episode 21
Wasn't expecting them to give Serie that voice.

I like how they don't info dump the nature of magic, but build on it bit by bit. We've now learned that visualization is key to a spell and that mana itself can serve as a shield against the more, well, mystical effects of magic in sufficient amounts.

    Frieren ep 21:
Frieren breaking the barrier was honestly a cooler moment than the actual fight between her and Denken. I hope this show gets a second season, there should be plenty of material left to adapt.
There's another major arc and two smaller mini arcs in the manga so far, plus a couple of handfuls of standalone stories.

And if you think Denken is cool now...he gets a lot better as a character.
He's very much the essence of noblisse oblige, in all the good ways.

Countdown to Republicans saying we ought to be press-ganging teens into doing disambiguated agricultural work because food is literally rotting on the vine without traditional labor (read: immigrants from Central and South America) to harvest it. Sorry if you wanted to go to senior prom, Billy; it's more important that to your awful Trumper uncle that you bleed and sweat in the field so he can buy fresh produce he'll end up letting rot on his countertops to fight wokeness or whatever.

Well then, here's hoping that there is enough interest in seeing that adapted. I genuinely do not know how well the series is doing, but hopefully it's doing well enough to justify a second season.

The fight with Denken wasn't really much of a fight - she effortlessly crushed him, despite him unleashing some ridiculous attack spells. While analyzing the barrier. I loved that Safie notices her barrier get torn apart, immediately knows exactly who did it, and is clearly enjoying it.

Although I do like that both parties that lost to Frieren and Fern still passed, because I want to see more of them. Denken rolling up his sleeves and going for a brawl was great.

True, less a duel and more a minor setback in retrieving their bird. Though if anything I guess she's just teaching more people that zoltraak is all you really need against mages of this age.

    Frieren episode 21:
I never in a million years would have imagined Romi Park (Edward Elric from FMA, Toshiro Hitsugaya from Bleach) as the voice of Serie. It's much deeper than how I pictured it when I read it. That said, she's an extremely solid voice actor, so I think it'll grow on me.

I'd like to point out one detail about the writing that struck me as excellent. During every episode of the First Test, people were often mentioning the barrier, the rain, or both, as an off-hand comment. Low and behold, look what Frieren was doing the whole time. The foreshadowing was so good. And the sakuga of the moment itself? *chef's kiss*

You're right, I hadn't considered that but yeah, it kept getting mentioned offhand.

And agreed, that scene was very well done. I love how even as she's violating the common sense of everyone present her expression is as impassive as ever. None of the usual anime stuff, just calmly casting a spell that tears apart a barrier nobody else present could even conceive of breaking.

I was poking around on mangaplus to see what else is there, and _Rugby Rumble_ is a very by-the-books sports manga, but it's also hitting all the right notes and doing so really well. Plot is the standard "new guy at sport turns out to be super good at it"; this time around it's someone who is tired of the quiet village he lives in, and also very tough:
    znfnetdyk2lu.png
Then he goes to school in the big city, tries rugby, is at the start surprised at how it works:
    wh60lyxvtb7j.png
but then pushes on through brute force:
    vjxm22ez6m6o.png
and even though the captain is initially not keen on his energy-over-knowledge approach,
    ga4p35mscnmx.png
our hero winds up joining the team anyway. There's a bunch of other tropes out there; the "rival who's too good and wants a challenge":
    3ehjala1350e.png
There's "team mate who needs to overcome their fear", "disillusioned teacher because the team is no good", etc. The most noticeable difference between this one and the way this sort of story usually works is that in the first two games they're already "fighting the final boss" - in the world of this comic, Japan's high school rugby team is the world champions, and by a weird coincidence everyone on that team goes to school in the same neighborhood as our hero's school. There's not the usual sort of 'first defeat the closest school, then the suburban championship, then the city tournament, and so on until you're the all-Japan winners, etc" sort of scaling, it starts off against much higher-tier opponents.

If anyone's looking for a standard sort of sports manga that is, so far at least, a solid, well-done example of that kind of thing, it's definitely worth a look. (all the chapters are free if you read them through the mangaplus app, you just only get one time to read them)

You have some fucking choices in there, boy. You've got one of the best series out there point blank in Macross Frontier, one of the most "...well, there goes the potential" in Spider, for some godforsaken reason you have the horse girls anime, and you've got Birdie Wing, which is A Thing. and a couple i dont recognize.

Anyway, macross Frontier is great, Enjoy.

I did a full series (mostly) run of Macross, and Frontier was the standout for me, so that's why I recommended it. Definitely interested to see what everyone else thinks of it. I've heard mixed reports on Spider, but Aoi Yuki is great, and everyone seems hyped for that at least. I never watched the second half of Birdie Wing myself! So glad I get a chance to finish it.

Uma Musume is a good show! We already watched the first season!!

For the other two, Re:CREATORS is apparently 'what if a bunch of expies for famous anime characters were brought to the real world and met their creators?' I've been promised it's a wild ride. And Humanity Has Declined is a bizarre post-post-post-apocalyptic setting where the few remaining humans try to coexist with fairies and other powerful creatures that were apparently created at some point between apocalypses. I was gifted it to watch a while back, and had a great time with it, and @Anzekay has also been pitching it to the group for a while.

Spider starts really strong, and then crashes and burns quite epically, including some truly ATROICOUS 3d cg. It also compeltely muffs executing what's supposed to be a twist and ends up being "Why are we paying attention to these idiots?". The light novel actually executes it better, but even the light novels kinda go awol badly. Real shame, but also, lol, isekais at this point.

    I would assume he means
Everyone who got isekai'ed were born at the same time, so the parts of the show with the human kids take place many years later than the parts with the spider.
