I like to think about myself that I am not a hater, and when I read / watch / play something, I really try to like stories that I am experiencing, unless their quality really drops down so much, that I am unable to enjoy them anymore.

I hate, hate, HATE what is happening in new Jujutsu Kaisen manga chapters.
So, really, for realz, Kenjaku is dead?

    Just... lol.

Imagine Darth Vader being Luke's father, but after killing Obi-Wan he never shares a scene with Luke ever again, Luke never learns that he is his father, the revelation is only known by the audience, and at the end of the story Vader just fucking dies against, I dunno, Ewoks.

This is a level of an plot potential waste that we are seeing here.

And it is only one example of plot points being utterly wasted here!

Gege Akutani does not know how to write stories outside of cool battles. What a joke.

I've been finally reading the Battle Angel Alita manga, and it really is excellent.

I could see the entire second volume being great material for a second film(the stuff with her and Hugo).

I think that's been pretty clear for a LONG time. Most of the cast is just chaff for him to have Cool Things happen.

    Alita (live action movie):
Didn't the film cover most of the Hugo/Alita stuff already?
    Manga volume 3 spoiler
    Including Hugo's death?

The live action Alita was surprisingly good and very faithful to the manga. I want to say it incorporates most of volumes 1-2 and some elements (not story) from 3-4. A second film could go further into 3-4 or jump ahead.

I honestly didn't remember him being in it, I only saw it once. The most memorable bits involved Christoph Waltz, unsurprisingly. But yeah, the film was very well made(and faithful, far as I could tell).

I think he felt way more memorable in the manga, he just seemed like a generic love interest in the movie.

I was gifted it to watch a while back, and had a great time with it, and @Anzekay has also been pitching it to the group for a while.

Spider starts really strong, and then crashes and burns quite epically, including some truly ATROICOUS 3d cg. It also compeltely muffs executing what's supposed to be a twist and ends up being "Why are we paying attention to these idiots?". The light novel actually executes it better, but even the light novels kinda go awol badly. Real shame, but also, lol, isekais at this point.

It's been a while, can you remind me of the twist in spoilers?

    I would assume he means
Everyone who got isekai'ed were born at the same time, so the parts of the show with the human kids take place many years later than the parts with the spider.

Not a guy. They/them is correct for me.

And yes, that's the correct twist. It's a series that starts out very fun, because the growing terribly op is entertaining when it's not tied to genetic mcbland creeper, but it ultimately doesn't really execute on the potential or arrive at a satisfying conclusion.

At least the buster call hasn't hit Punk Records yet.

Vegapunk was passively willing to do many bad things, and while he tries to lawyer the rules and do the bare minimum, like the interpretation of "self destruct", he only rarely rejects orders completely. Judging by, like, everything about Vegapunk, it's probably effectively impossible for him to ignore the void century's secrets if he tries. And he talks about letting the pacifistas be used against Bonney as something he can't do.

Kizaru seems just a hair less ambivalent about what he can do. With Garp who just stops moving when he doesn't like what he's doing, and Fujitora who would chuck rocks at the holy land if he thinks he can get away with it, there are a lot of awkward fencesitters who still end up leaning on different sides of the fence.

The simple answer is because COVID demonstrated that so much of our contemporary office life is unnecessary. A thing that many had been saying for quite some time. So this reactionary rhetoric isn't a huge surprise but the amount of money being lobbed at state legislatures to try to do something about it?

I guess it shouldn't surprise me, but it does. Especially seeing it come out as anti-labor legislation like the above. Cut the legs out of people by employing their children at half as much for twice as many hours.

You know, I always thought the Laughing Man logo was wearing a sideways baseball cap, but looking at it now I'm not so sure.

baseball cap was the intention I think

    Yeah it is
but diegetically it also looks like a coffee cup because that’s what the Laughing Man based it off of when he needed to make the logo as a disguise:
The Laughing Man logo was designed by TERRATAG.[1] Based in the UK, Terratag was asked to read a short story by J.D. Salinger, The Laughing Man, and to base the logo on that. The story centers around a boys' after school organization called the Comanche Club. The Comanche Club's Chief often brings the boys to Central Park for baseball games, and these games are the source of the baseball cap featured in the logo. The text was given to Terratag by Production I.G. and reads: "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes". The phrase is an excerpt from The Catcher in the Rye, also written by J.D. Salinger. In the book the text continues to read: "That way I wouldn't have to have any goddam stupid useless conversations with anybody. If anybody wanted to tell me something they'd have to write it on a piece of paper and shove it over to me. They'd get bored as hell doing that after a while, and then I'd be through with having conversations for the rest of my life".

The Complex story arc of Stand Alone Complex focuses on the Laughing Man case, and on a medical/governmental conspiracy tied in to the fate of the Laughing Man.

Concerning the fictional origin of the logo, Togusa speculates in episode 20, "RE-VIEW", that there's a connection between the Laughing Man and the Sunflower Society because of the similarity of their logos, while the Laughing Man himself says that was inspired for his logo by the (fictional) Starchild Coffee company logo (itself a reference to the real-life logo of the Starbucks coffeehouse chain).

Looks like we’ll get to see video of that hero show on Smith’s shirt from the OP

also listening to Lulu in the preview it really just hit me:
The reason she only baby talks so far, similar to why her digestive tract is under developed despite her apparent age, is likely because whatever Superbia and the others are, their human counterparts have probably never had a chance to exist outside of their pods. Not sure why that doesn’t also result in muscle strophe, but if they’re basically little more than power ups for them and are probably kept alive by that fluid for even nutrients, it’d make sense they’d be at square one for cognition and digestion

I'd say does not remain to be seen how the got back to Elbaf, they were established as having been back many chapters back they help Shanks destroy the Kidd Pirates, so it can be presumed that they have been back at least for a bit probably having been found by Oimo and Kashii as they are back at Elbaf too.

Anyone else watching 7th Time Loop on Crunchyroll?

I ignored it until recently when I found out what it's about. Despite it's subtitle, it's not a Villainess series (or an isekai or game setting, for that matter).

Rishe is a young lady who has basically known her entire life that she was going to have to marry the prince. It was a done deal, and she had no choice in the matter. However, when she is 15, someone lies about her causing the prince to very publicly end their engagement, which then results in her family disowning her. Wandering the streets, she stumbles upon a merchant troupe and ends up joining them. She finds she enjoys this life much more.

However, when she's 20, a war breaks out and she dies.

Suddenly she finds herself back when she was 15 and the prince is ending their engagement. However, this time she fails to meet up with the merchant troupe, so instead she ends up becoming an herbalist.

However, when she's 20, a war breaks out and she dies.

Repeat a few more times where she becomes a scholar, a maid, and a hunter.

On the sixth loop, she cuts her hair and poses as a man to become a knight. When she's 20, she ends up facing the man supposedly responsible for the war. He's a young man who is said to have killed his father in order to ascend to emperor and start this war. She puts up a better fight than all the other knights with her, but ultimately he kills her.

On her seventh loop, she takes a different route out of the palace and ends up bumping into the man who is supposed to become emperor and start the war. He becomes fascinated by the strange woman who displays a wide variety of skills and knowledge and ends up proposing to her. She accepts on the condition that she be allowed to do as she pleases at his palace, claiming she was just going to laze about, but actually planning to work to prevent the war from ever happening using all her knowledge from her previous loops.

THIS GIF from the OP is the first thing I saw, showing her through her first six loops.

It's based on a light novel series, and also has a manga adaption. Both of which are licensed are officially available in English.

The first episode was better than usual. You could make a case for that kind of show as an excuse for the reincarnated hero/heroine has a bunch of random skills to McGyver their way around things and/or solve whatever problems/mysteries as... I dunno, a mix of Burn Notice/Groundhog Day or something.

But then the second (third?) episode was had her go "Hey, no bullying allowed here. We all respect each other," and solved the royal household's caste issues in one speech, everybody clapping at her pluck and maturity, and it was too much for me. I'm allergic to reincarnation things though, so ymmmv.

I started watching Mashle and I wasn't sure I was sold on it, but then episode 3 happened. The Vice Principal shows up along with a rich bully. And holy shit.
"When there's already one body, what's one more?" Proceeds to bury the Vice Principal alive.
"Yes. You can get me expelled from school any time you like. And I can bury you alive any time I like."

    Fuck man, 100% in now.

A majority of workers at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga, Tennessee plant have signed cards to join the UAW, less than sixty days after the workers announced their campaign to form a union at the German automaker’s only US assembly plant.

    Labor continues

Last time, VW was welcoming the UAW with open arms. They invited them into the shop to give talks to the workers and everything. So much so that Tennessee lawmakers were threatening to retract the subsidies for building that auto plant because they couldn't comprehend a company being pro union.

I am deeply curious how VW will play the issue this time.
