Some nights I need the security that I could put a disc of Tenchi Universe into my Xbox and fall asleep while a few episodes run.

He used the pen name "Lee Stone", at least in Macross Plus and Street Fighter II.
In my experience, it's, seriously, because of licensing.
I've got most of the older Ghibli stuff, the Cowboy Bebop movie (which my college roommate had to buy for me because I didn't realize it was rated R and didn't have any ID), some random other movies like Appleseed. A few random VHSes like Akira, and a collectors unsubbed VHS of Princess Mononoke. I think the only series I own is FLCL, which was 3 individual DVDs because that's how they rolled
A couple years ago I re-bought Bebop and Champloo on Blu Ray during an Amazon Black Friday sale so that's the only physical anime I have in my apartment.
Nope
Oh boy, you maybe have never seen Cranston in the 1990's, when he had a luscious head of hair.
The man was a verifiable snack, by god.
_Martial Master Asumi_ is done. Which is a shame, I was enjoying it, it was doing a good job of building up the plot, but nope, the plot just jumps straight to the ending (which was always going to be the ending), but this time with a "the final battle begins!" splash panel rather than actually seeing it play out.
_Cipher Academy_ ended a couple of weeks ago -- I'd not been reading it for a while because of too many characters to keep track of, but it seems to have had a decent run.
_Astro Baby_ is new, it might be good, it might not, hard to tell at this point. It has a weird mix of occasional "har har" gags combined with "now everyone will die" worldbuilding which is a bit offputting.
_Super Psychic Policeman Chojo_ feels like it's written for an entirely different sense of humour than the one I have -- I can tell where the jokes are meant to be, they just don't seem funny.
Separately, re: latest Akane-banashi (97)
I missed the "the end" when I read it yesterday. I thought it was just a weird abrupt timeskip, but it was actually a weird abrupt ending!
cancellation endings be like that
With all the setup laid out, it's a much more entertaining show. Unfortunately, the world building scenes that aren't about our guy just sort of demonstrate how those parts are pretty boring and underdeveloped. I'll just say I've watched MUCH worse isekai drek than this. It's obviously not going to match up to the big two fantasy shows out right now, but if you want kind of a simplified meat-head action show, you can do worse.
I do have a few pretty safe shows I really like that I tend to shill whenever I can. (A Place Further Than the Universe // Frieren)
Other than some of those safe shows I usually have at least some idea of what anime people I recommend things to have watched before. Still a pain to recommend things though.
AniList
Princess Mononoke?"
*flees from the room*
The only safe anime recommendation, Nights With a Cat.
I'd be apprehensive about recommending LotGH out of the gate to someone new to the medium.
I think, to some degree, its unfair to have them watch something that will make every other anime look worse by comparison.
KYUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
the first anime I got my Dad to watch was Kino's Journey and I struggled to follow it up with something even close to its quality for ages
FMA and Brotherhood are on my short list, along with some Ghibli stuff. Probably Frieren at this point too.
I dunno I like telling people about some.of the good ass animes that are interesting stories if they don't mind the medium, which is never shonen or isekai but there are animes that id recommend to any one who wants a good to show watch (Pluto)
K-On!: pretty good, we'll see where it goes
Cowboy Bebop: ...uh...the music is awesome?
Romantic comedy, probably Horimiya or Kimagure Orange Road.
