    I think the only Cowboy Bebop episodes I remember being able to watch to completion were the mushroom hallucination and Ed playing chess with this old engineer.

    The spike tragic backstory major plot is definitely the weakest part of the show but other than that it's all golden to me

    As someone who grew up in a household that only had a betamax until like, 1997, and had to get replacements multiple times when it was stolen by burglars, I always had a fondness for the episode where they have to scour the solar system for a working unit.

    This is probably my all-time favorite bit about Cowboy Bebop. Twitter don't inline anymore but it's not on youtube (or if it is the search is so fucking busted I'll never find it)

    So that Helldivers 2, a lot of people seem to be enjoying playing that game where you fight the Bugs like in Starship Troopers.

    Maybe give Deca Dence a shot if you haven't seen it?

    Ubel/Land - they're either going to kill each other or wind up in bed, and there's no inbetween.

    And we get the payoff for the trip in the mountains - looks like there's a shadow warrior after Serie, and given the trouble Radaal gave our heroes, this is a serious threat.

    Fern enjoys tormenting Stark, it seems.

    Or both.

    Though really how did she find him so easily? She couldn't detect he was using a clone at all during the exam and she's also said she's only good at using magic instinctively, hence her condition of being able to empathize with someone before she can utilize their spells.

    Also the Empire really loves playing with fire it seems. Though I didn't expect anything less from an empire, you don't get to be as big and powerful as that title without lots of blood, innocent or otherwise.

    https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2024-02-27/crunchyroll-confirms-testing-a.i-for-subtitling/.208086
    In an interview with technology news website The Verge on its Decoder podcast on Monday, Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini confirmed that the company is testing the use of generative A.I. (artificial intelligence) on subtitling and closed captioning. The testing is an effort to "optimize [their] processes" to allow them to release subtitles in more languages closer to the Japanese release date of seasonal anime episodes.

    The company is also testing generative A.I. to assist users in personalizing their experience and discovering titles, and is testing A.I. in general for different workflows in the company.

    Crunchyroll previously released poor-quality subtitles for the first episode of the The Yuzuki Family’s Four Sons television anime in October 2023, then removed the episode after complaints over the subtitles spread on social media and Crunchyroll's own website. It reuploaded the episode with updated subtitles after a week, explaining that it "work[ed] with the licensor of the series" for the updated subtitles.

    Sony's Funimation Global Group completed its acquisition of Crunchyroll from AT&T on August 9, 2021, after the company first announced the acquisition in December 2020. The purchase price was US$1.175 billion, and the proceeds were paid in cash at closing. Funimation's home video releases are now listed under Crunchyroll.

    Incredible anime industry when one company buys a monopoly of the rights to bring shows into the English language and then also wants to stop actually putting any effort or money into doing that.

    The “best” part is anyone in the localization industry who has come anywhere near this will tell you they’re basically paid even less than what they’re paid for proper translation jobs to “babysit” the machine translation output that is typically so poor they have to do it over again from scratch anyway.

    While, again, getting paid less for the same work because, technically, they’re just copy editing it. Technically.

    I wonder if the next generation of subbers will bring back the karaoke style subtitles for OPs and EDs. Those were always a nice touch, even if they weren't over the top (like UTW's subs for Railgun).

    Current fansubbers already do this. You just have to wade through all the people straight copy/pasting the Crunchyroll/HIDIVE subs. There's usually a higher quality version that goes up a few days to a few weeks after the episode drops. Shows that don't get official localizations also tend to also get well done fansubs, since they're going even further out of their way for those already.

    Most clips of things tend to come from fansubs, you can usually tell by the fancy colors and/or fonts they use.

    I've never done an anime, but I've done a live action TV show(from 1995 so no one involved probably cares anymore), and it's nice to have total freedom as long as you and the translator are on the same page(we both believe in localizing honorifics, for instance).

    We're 2 months into the Winter season and there's still a few shows I haven't had time to start, as I'm catching up from shows from 1 and 2 seasons ago.

    There might be too much anime coming out. Either that or I have less free time than I used to (it's probably a combination of the two).

    E: I just looked ahead to the Spring, and there's about 25 shows on my radar. What.

    I helped edit for a couple of mecha shows back in the day, and it was a night and day experience- one group was pretty chilled out, and the other got into it over being as literal as possible or some localizing (nothing egregious, from what I saw in the IRC chat, things like tweaking puns that didn't work in English). The discussions about what to do with this or that were interesting.

    I've been kinda dreading Joseph showing up because I already didn't like his changes in Stardust (although I accepted them as believable ones).

    I believe she is, from all the possible places they could have picked a character from, the Princess from "Torture" Princess. Which, yeah, that's pretty much Pecorinne now that I think about it.

    The list the video shows is a mix of current and completed stuff:

    * Kafka Hibino, "Monster #8" [sic] (ongoing)
    * Chrome, "Heart Gear" (ongoing)
    * Slime, "Slime Life" (completed)
    * Gabimaru, "Hells Paradise: Jigokuraku" (completed)
    * Ushio Kofune, "Summer Time Rendering" (completed)
    * Princess & Ex, "'Tis time for "Torture," Princess" (ongoing)
    * Chloe Love and Kai Iod, "Ghost Reaper Girl" (ongoing, but very slowly)
    * Loid Forger, "Spy x Family" (ongoing)

    Most of those are familiar -- "Heart Gear" I've seen when poking around on mangaplus, but I'd never heard of "Slime Life" before.
