Part of that is we need more healthcare workers, and there's an artificial shortage of them.

Due to the cost of entry (the years of schooling/etc)? Just curious why you say it's artificial, not disagreeing.

I think I originally heard it mentioned by AngelHedgie, but I believe the American Medical Association, essentially a guild of established medical professionals, is involved with the certification of new doctors, and limits the number of new ones each year, so as not to flood the market with extra doctors and bring down what they can charge. Because if profits came down, doctors couldn't earn enough to pay back their loans from medical school. Since old doctors had to suffer through high expenses to earn their degrees, they think it's normal up and coming ones should too.

This might not be exactly right, and hopefully someone else can weigh in with more details, as I'm just going off of memory.

It's a bit more complicated than that - basically, the AMA and the federal government are in a fight over funding residencies, in large part because the feds would like to use the power of the purse to better control what sorts of doctors we're minting (because we're producing fewer GPs and more specialists than we actually need, thanks to some perverse incentives with regards to specializations), and the AMA is opposed to that. There's also the ridiculous two-tier system medical education uses in the US that isn't used elsewhere (in most countries, you enter a program to become a doctor that mixes both undergrad and medical school.)

    time for budget busting

One of the nice things about the series' structure is that it has built in bottle episodes, which means you can put the budget where it counts.

Wish someone made an actual (good) Cowboy Bebop game instead of putting skins in a game I'm not interested in. Especially with each skin probably going to cost as much as an indie game or two.

    Bravern 9
Exactly as everybody called. Smith fucked merged orgasmically with the giant robot that wanted his ass while in robot nirvana or whatever and became Bravern because he wanted to be with his boyfriend so badly. And then I guess got really distracted and just wanted to fuck around and play with his toys while the planet was being destroyed/people were being tortured.

The PS1 game looks pretty neat, for what it's worth, even if it's absolutely not what you'd expect from the words "Cowboy Bebop PS1 game". Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have a fan translation(?), but it's interesting to see what game they decided to make for an anime that hadn't even finished airing when the game released.

I wish apparently translating the Blood+ game Grasshopper did wasn’t apparently a nightmare in dealing with how they handle text:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPA9mJmYAHk

Not to be confused with the OTHER Blood+ game on PS2 apparently:

OP 2 you mean, but yeah

speaking of anime tie-in videogames that were way better than they had any right to be, once again gotta shout out the ps2 ghost in the shell standalone complex game for perfectly capturing the vibes of the show

also i was reminded recently that it was made by cavia of all people

The AMA, the Bar, Professional Engineer Licenses, and the like are all effectively unions for professionals. Except instead of being available to any employees, they restrict membership so they can restrict the supply side of labor, thus causing them to earn more.

*edit* And because they aren't officially unions they have been able to build a lot of protections for themselves in our legal system.

Part of what pushes doctors into specializations rather than staying as a GP is that specializations are significantly better compensated, and much more able to have their own practice. I know a lot of GPs in my part of Houston have been bought out by big out of state medical companies.

Are anime video games just the acclaim movie tie-in shovelware games of old? Every single one I've ever tried has been truly wretched.

I believe that the main Jojo fighting games are pretty well regarded. Some of the mega-franchises, like Dragonball, have their interesting games here and there. There's certainly quite a few interesting things in Breakers that I wish other asym games could learn from it, and it has far outlasted stuff like TCM and Evil Dead. If you go back far enough, there's a ton of stuff in the NES/SNES era that's quite good, but I wouldn't say any more so than like, Capcom's Disney stuff.

But yeah, most are lazy ass shovelware. It is interesting to see the progress from the PS2 era of lazy-ass visual novel with a protagonist self-insert to just go through the anime's plot again to exploitive gacha.

un-related to the above, hi-dive updated their amazon app to what looks like an entire facelift, to the point you had to re-link it to your account so they might have binned its entire backend as well. maybe it won't just randomly stop working now!

Sometimes anime does the opposite, and makes a good anime out of a bad video game.

The Fist of the North Star has an old very well loved Kusoge(Positive) arcade fighting game that has a small but devoted community within the FGC. It's extremely broken, but also extremely high skill cap with all sorts of bizarre interactions that lead to some incredible matches.

Tenchi Muyō! Game-hen is a strategy game with RPG elements, based on the popular Japanese Tenchi Muyo! cartoon series. The game moves from battle to battle, with the plot being revealed through cutscenes between them. The player fights the computer on turns, controlling the individuals from a party of four. The party members are selected on a separate screen before each battle, and as the game progresses new characters become available.
