does Dandadan count? it has a lot of gags.

dandadan feels way more on the shonen side of things but there's humor there for sure. mashle feels more on the humor side atm to me (only through the first cour of mashle so far so maybe that's coloring my opinion of the two)

Mashle is basically pure Shonen parody. It's not my jam, but it has some excellent gags.

It depends of what you think "the definitional activity of unions" is. Both collective bargaining and exclusivity have a similar effect: Make wages higher. If that's the point, then how you get there does not matter.

However if collective bargaining Is the point on itself, instead of the method, then guilds are insufficient.

    Frieren Episode 26
Now I can see why they gathered so many high profile keyframe animators for this episode. That's some sakuga for sure.

I love how the episode ends with everyone seeing Frieren caught by a mimic, also I just realized how utterly evil it was to put a mimic in the treasure room after beating the last boss. That's some sadist game design. And the stinger reveals that one of my all-time favorite moments is coming next week. Y'all are gonna find out exactly why Land is my favorite out of this entire arc of new mages.

So what do we think, is Lulu gonna fight with Superbia cooperatively instead of as a disposable battery?
    that’s my guess.

I’m curious how it works out; you can see her with a very Superbia-looking pendant in the OP, where she’s holding her hands and calling out but we can’t see to who or what, as well and it hasn’t explained yet what the deal is there

I haven’t read Dandadan yet but my impression is it wasn’t a gag manga.

Like a gag fighting manga is like… it’s not just a fighting manga with a lot of gags, but instead I would say more is “A gag manga where they have fighting manga elements”

Like, if Mashle or Bobobo go up against Vegeta, Vegeta is losing, because they’re Gag manga characters first and foremost before they’re fighting manga characters, so the need for the joke to overrule the logic and theme of hte fight is paramount.

Vegeta has shown before that he can understand when someone is a gag manga character and use that against them, though! He might have a chance.

Goku though, Goku is getting creamed.

    Frieren episode 26:
So much incredible sakuga. I was a little confused by where the fight ended last week and began this week. The last thing I remember from last time was Frieren's mimic starting to cast at Frieren point blank, and Frieren dodging out of the way to create an opening for Fern to fire her laser. Overall the fight was incredible.

Ubel defeating Sense because Ubel's spell lets her cut anything she imagines she can cut was a great reveal, and basically surprised me again. Once again reinforcing the show's theme of "mages can do anything they can visualize." Not showing the Fern/Methode fight, just the aftermath, was a brilliant bit of writing as well. I read the manga a while ago, and I could not for the life of me remember most of the details of the 2nd test arc. Maybe because the 3rd test chapters resonated with me so strongly. Speaking of, I am beyond hyped for the 3rd test next week. One of my favorite chapters of any media I've ever consumed in my life.

Only 2 episodes left! I'm going to be sad when this show is gone.

    Frieren 26:
I liked the paralleling of the two twists of this episode: Frieren's clone's special attack and Ubel's special attack. Both were unblockable in their own way and for different reasons. Ubel can cut through seemingly anything besides the basic magic shield because she's insane, while Frieren has apparently had this trump card of a weird spell that can't be blocked. I also like the implication that the last time she used that spell it was on the demon king.

Last week I had to dip out of AniMenagerie to help my folks assemble some furniture, so this afternoon I got caught up on Maison Ikkoku, specifically its 6th episode.

If you're wondering what the standard audience experience is like when we watch that show, oh, let me provide the clearest example:

Truly, its just this over and over again at Godai:

Because for a brief moment she considered Fern to be a bigger threat than Frieren and focused all her attention + that spell on her. You can see her eyes narrowed and locked.

And as Frieren mentioned before, when she casts she breaks off her mana detection for a moment, which is when she struck the final blow.

    It's an exam
to see if you can basically walk onto the frontlines of a war. Taking the exam and then being unskilled enough to survive + unwilling to take the outs offered basically marks you as someone who WOULD die in that war so... too bad for you, pretty much.

The Divine Revolte arc shows the sort of work first class mages are expected to do, and makes it clear the test shows what one needs to be able serve in that position. They also have to be able to work together (hence the random parties in the first test, and the second test emphasizing cooperation.)

    Frieren mage exam being lethal:

I can somehow forgive this trope in this series, because at least participation in that is completely voluntary, and "winning" it grants you a big reward, which should not be granted to people that are weak, dumb or irresponsible.

On the other hand, Demon Slayer's exam still continues to be dumb as fuck, because 80% of teenage participants die there for zero good reason.

Well, it's less exciting than it would be right now but I have finally watched all 1096 episodes of One Piece. Only took my 536 days to do it. It's ultra hilarious that the main reason I started watching the anime is because the manga was going from the long haul of Wano back to the rest of the world with Egghead and the ultra burnout way I read the manga meant I had retained like jack and shit and forgot who a lot of these characters were. And then I get to the egghead arc in the anime and it has helpful explainers at the end of the episodes for all these characters you likely haven't heard of in years.

I see they decided to celebrate this accomplishment by taking the week off for both the anime and the manga.
