There's a new series on Manga Plus called Set it and Forget it, and I find the core concept kind of amusing.

It's about cooking food in a rice cooker, other than just rice.

It feels sort of like an infomercial for rice cookers, but it also seems like a not completely terrible slice-of-life manga. So far (3 chapters in), the biggest conflict has been the main character having to carry a big bag of rice home from the supermarket.

I don't think a continuation of the OVA has been announced yet, but there's nine light novels so far so it has plenty of material to adapt.

I liked the paralleling of the two twists of this episode: Frieren's clone's special attack and Ubel's special attack. Both were unblockable in their own way and for different reasons. Ubel can cut through seemingly anything besides the basic magic shield because she's insane, while Frieren has apparently had this trump card of a weird spell that can't be blocked. I also like the implication that the last time she used that spell it was on the demon king.

    Should I feel bad for
Being glad Fern's staff got destroyed? I hated that weird stick.

I've gotten into the, uh, dispute over sandwich bags in Diamond is Unbreakable and that was quite a stressful farce (complimentary) if I've ever seen one.
I'll admit, I did think Shigechi would spill the beans, especially when his parents were threatened. Fuckin' wild that those other kids saw his bloodied body and went "Ew he's weird", and I guess Killer Queen's explosions are sound dampened?

The most effective part of the Kira ""relationship"" scenes to me are the use of the morning radio segments, which were previously just some nice small-town flavour and now are being used as a unsettling contrast for the nauseating actions we're seeing.

    Frieren Episode 27
Dangit, episode ended before the moment I'm waiting for. Ah well, still a good episode. Stark still having random old men doing the Tuxedo Mask meme will never get old, Denken has basically adopted Laufen now and needled Richter, and Serie being Serie.

Anime + some manga stuff in the near future
Serie is such a child and it's hilarious. She is the embodiment of "Anything you can do I can do better, but also anything you can do is stupid and dumb."
"Learning to restrict your mana is stupid and you'd be better off doing literally anything else." *learned how to restrict her mana to a degree equal to Frieren who made it her signature technique*
"A spell to create a field of flowers is dumb and pointless." *casts a whole damn greenhouse full of them compared to Flamme's singular field*
I'll bet she can use the signature spells of all her students better than they can/could, just so she can throw shade to hide the fact these spells are the only way she knows how to connect to the people she knows. Emotionally she's even more immature than Frieren was at the start of the series.

There was a year of branded Marvel Anime on Animax in 2010-2011. Iron Man -> Wolverine -> X-Men -> Blade.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Anime

They failed pretty hard, but were funny because literally all of them had really contrived reasons for taking place in Japan. Like, literally a whole year and four different iterations of "Marvel superhero visits Japan and OOPS, stumbles into uniquely Japanese conspiracy."

    Frieren 27
So, as much as Safie talked about Frieren being too strong and throwing off the tests... I'm not actually sure significantly fewer people pass the second if she's not there. The difficulty of the test actually drops drastically without the Frieren copy at the end, in large part because Ubel beats Sense easily. (I figure the final guard is probably the copy of Sense, which means more people make it to the end as well)

I'm curious how the justification goes for failing Frieren (I mean, publicly - we know it's basically entirely because she and Safie don't get along and have significant differences of opinion). The other candidates are all well aware that Frieren is the strongest of them at this point, and it's not even close. Fern, obviously, has the potential to reach that level but isn't there yet (and since Safie passes her, it's really hard to justify not passing Frieren to others)

I'm figuring Denken and Ubel also pass. Denken for being undeterred by Safie's aura (also, I figure he has at least a chance of figuring out Safie's suppressing it by reasoning that it's too small), and Ubel because she's interesting (and honestly, is probably also unfazed). Dunno about any of the rest... there's a couple that weren't in the fail montage.

And test aside, the whole bit with Fern's staff was great.

Besides my favorite scene this week, one other thing I really like in Frieren 27:
During Fern's flashback about Heiter, he was explaining to Fern about Frieren:
"She is someone who struggles with emotions and empathy, and that will undoubtedly cause you difficulties and disagreements, but Frieren herself is aware she struggles this way, and she will never stop trying to understand you despite this."

It's just such a wonderful sentiment! Because I know people like this, and can be awkward like this myself, but it's never that I'm being insensitive or difficult on purpose! I try really hard not to be those things! I just fail from time to time, and always feel badly about it!

I empathized very strongly with this episode and in general this show and its characters. It's so well done.

Not spoilers just thoughts on second exam
I think it'd be a ripple effect forward from the first exam. Without Frieren, chances are Kanne and Lawine don't pass. Without Kanne and Lawine in the second exam, they don't realize that the clones all gather at the bottom of the dungeon since that's information they had specially. Without that information it's likely that Denken's group engages the Sense clone in battle at the door, it's drawn out since Ubel hasn't arrived yet, and by the time the rest of the mages show up to help the other clones have started to gather and the fight becomes way more chaotic as both mages and new clones trickle in.

They do probably still win but who knows how many of them die in that magical free for all. Especially once the Fern clone arrives and starts sniping from concealment.

She didn't pass Freiren because Freiren would not listen to or obey mandates required of First Class mages. They have responsiblities and duties. Why would you hire a soldier, no matter how strong, who would not follow orders? She knows Freiren doesn't really care about the rank. That's an automatic failure on the most important part of First Class mages: actually being a contributing part of your organisation!

Do first class mages actually have additional responsibilities? It seems like most of the ones we've seen are imperial it Serie's students.
From what I've seen in the show it just seems to be a certification that you can hang in the war zone, not that you're required to do anything there.
