Doom Train 3 was the first episode that I feel like it actually really engaged with its premise and wasn't just 20 minutes of doing unrelated regional schtick.
But it was pretty much just a generic body snatcher kind of parody, but with mushrooms, and not really that much of a parody. It was just... body snatchers, with mushrooms.

And then the ending was... not great.

"Everything is shit and the world sucks, so why shouldn't we give ourselves over to parasitic mind controlling mushrooms that kill us, AND murder everybody who comes into town too?"
"Oh, well, when you put it that way, you have a point, I guess. Bye."

That should be an escape while being chased by lunatic cult kind of ending. Not live and let live after a horde of serial murder mushroom cultists just tried to kill you.

From over in the games thread:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9skNxUFJj2g

It's very hard to tell if the game is any good or not, but if you just think of it as an AMV for "Sand Land - Sandstorm(Darude)" then it is fantastic. I always love it when people sync up music and the action in trailers, and this does it as well as anything I've seen. (the secondary bassline around 43 seconds in from the cannon in the game, just... yeah, that's doing this stuff properly)

Tsukimichi S2 E15 is setting up the powder kegs for something explosive and I'm all here for it. It's nice that the anime has progressed things far enough that I haven't known what's coming for a while now, it's more fun that way.
Hopefully next week we get to see his students have the chance to pop off and show what they can do. I don't expect this festival to end without some major fireworks that engulf the whole city.

I think there's like an 80% chance that
That jackass shows up hopped up on magiroids and they start having trouble against him and Kuzu goes "fine, this guy is being a jerk and has been cheating like crazy. I rescind the limitations I put on you earlier."

Very surprised that it wasn't drawn out much longer.

I'm wondering how much left of the series there is.

I’m surprised he didn’t just dust the head of the merchant guild after the dude extorted him while being an utter ass about it. Though I get that it’s Not That Kind of Show, and I think he’s going to get into Kingdom Building next. But yeah it definitely feels like something big is about to go off
Given some of the comments made by the various rulers showing interest in Kuzu and his company, I suspect that the head of the merchant guild is going to get "disappeared" in retaliation once the company closes up shop and takes off for the wilderness.

    Current season impressions so far:

Kaiju No. 8: Animation style looks nice and clean, the Japanese VA's did a good job. I kind of want to try out the dub, I feel like it will be pretty solid...

Rebuild of Spicy Wolf - You Can[NOT] Sell that Shit Here: It still seems pretty much exactly the same, to me? I'm sure if I compared them side by side, the animation differences and etc would stand out, but I am purposely not doing that, and it's been a few years since I've rewatched the original. This remake has the same chill vibe and charming leads, so it's working in that sense for me, I'm just very curious why they went with a remake to produce something so substantially similar. Someone asked, apparently Crunchyroll did get the dub actors to return, that starts this week.

Delicious in Dungeon: Replaces Frieren as easily the most anticipated and high quality show of each week. We're into the more dramatic part of the storyline now too, so that mild criticism should be pretty much gone at this point.

Konosuba: Episode 1 was funny, but frustrating. Hopefully we're in for smoother sailing for the rest of the season. I believe the upcoming arc is more focused on Darkness, who has never been my favorite in the group, but perhaps getting an arc will force them to come up with a few new jokes for her.

Finished off to free up more time:

Netflix Cannot Communicate Marketing Ideas (Komi Can't Communicate S2): Season 2 was better in literally every way, which makes it all the more frustrating that I found out it existed a year late. Did other people have this trouble, and did that damage viewership? I would hope not, as more seasons would be appreciated, the build to the OTP couple is very cute in this.

I have to imagine that the reason they're just remaking the old anime is because they don't want to tell people to go buy the 15-year-old series from a different studio when they could be buying the new stuff from the new production studio.

Much like how Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood didn't just point you towards the old anime and tell you to jump over to the new one after so-and-so many episodes.

Googling around I guess the rough point of divergence is FMA2003 E25/E26 and FMA:B E10, but it doesn't line up nice since they both do similar events out of order around there (I read a suggestion that you'd theoretically watch until episode 30 of 2003 before swapping to Brotherhood episode 8).

But the best option there is really just to start with episode 1 of Brotherhood and treat it as its own thing.

    JoJo Golden Wind spoilers
I figured that Abbacchio wasn't long for this world with how his power was uniquely suited to figuring out the Bosses' identity. And while I didn't particularly love his character and predicted the Limbo scene as such, any work pulling the "Where do you think we are?" style twist is likely to get me emotional.

    Frieren 128:
Well, that's a major plot point to just casually drop.
We now know what Frieren's "holy emblem" is - it's the mark of a secret faction within the Empire, the Court of the Sacred Staff, who are likely the mages tracing their lineage back to Flamme herself. No wonder it shocked Lernen.

We get to see why the Imperial mages are so terrifying, with their training and abilities to screw with someone's perception.

Land clearly has history here, which is likely why Serie told Ubel not to press him.

Auto workers are organizing in the South. Six Republican governors put out statements warning them not to.

UAW response is basically "aww they're scared" which is kinda great.

Amazing how the government going"hey Twitter these accounts are lying about a pandemic " counts as "government interference " to these types but this doesn't. Can't imagine why /s

I have Looser Ranger on my list of shows to watch this season, yet I find myself having a hard time getting around to watching the episode that’s already aired. I’m a fan of both Power Rangers and Sentai, and a different take on the premise interests me. I have a high tolerance for camp and such. I’m just not in the mood for bleak, I guess. For those that are familiar with the series, how dark and bleak does it get? It doesn’t need to be a comedy or anything, but I don’t really want to start something grim. I have a bad habit of not dropping most shows I start, even if I’m not really invested in them anymore (What if it gets good!).

It's dark. In my opinion, there are practically zero "good" characters. Everyone is screwed up and lacking in morals. There is some horrific shit going on. Some body horror. Gore.

    There are also funny parts.

    I think it's a solid 6 outta 10 manga.

There are characters who seem to be good people among the cadets. Hisui is also a good person, though she's probably not in season 1.

    (Spoilers from later manga stuff)
The Green Ranger may also be a good person as far as we can tell so far.

Suzukiri too actually, now that we know her motivation. She also has apparently opted out of continuing revenge in order to take care of her "sisters."

(meanwhile his first anime credit was a couple episodes of Turn A gundam)

i still love how they veer away from the utena structure just long enough to let you drop your guard and then deploy that black rose arc elevator deep cut in the form of the haro fortunetelling scene

Unsurprisingly I love it. I'm used to my anime being shonen and my farcical comedies having protagonists who deserve to have their lie exposed, so this is a nice change of pace
