God delicious in dungeon is so fucking good
fun detail I didn't notice in the manga, that only manga readers will find meaningful yet from the most recent or second most recent episode:
oh, THIS was when laios' sword got the lion decoration. I had thought it had the lion decoration from the start in the manga and they had just changed the design for the anime but it seems I just didn't notice the change in the manga.

I'm not sure Autistic is quite right word, but Suletta from Witch from Mercury struck me as some kind of neuro-divergent.

    Mashle.

I know you meant Mash specifically but this does basically refer to most of the cast so it works

It’s not from the past year but:

kamille is such a "their heart was in the right place but god does this feel dated now" autistic rep, just like the 70s and 80s gundams' brand of feminism (IE women are equally capable soldiers to men but also they have big irrational messy feelings all the time and can't help but fall in love with assholes). I would bet at the time the writers thought "being autistic" meant he loses his temper at the drop of a hat and he's a savant at designing and piloting robots.

Oh yeah, if anybody wants to weigh in at the last moment, I put up a voting link for Season 9 of our Monday night stream schedule in the other thread. We've already all voted ourselves, but I'm using some of this to help with tie-breaker situations. It's going to be way more difficult to schedule with all the new people submitting suggestions compared to Season 6.

I was trying to remember the details of past bits of storyline around current events, and found this website where they do a remarkably good job of covering all the details and what has gone before and all the things I'd forgotten along the way.
It is pretty impressive how much attention Oda pays to all the details of everything; the different ways the snails look depending on where they are, the various "this word uses the same kanji as this other thing" stuff, a reminder that the Red Line is really high up, etc.

I also like the detail that Celestial Dragons are potentially encased in waterproof gear and a bubble helmet, meaning they are perpetually prepared for a massive flood

I think there is basically zero chance Ryoko Kui is not doing Laios and Falin as neurodivergent on purpose. She knows exactly what she's doing, she has other characters in more modern day works that are in fact explicitly neurodivergent and know it and everything.

I've also heard that Frieren gets read as neurodivergent, especially regarding her difficulty understanding the emotions of other people.

Frieren is complicated, since you're starting from a fundamentally alien view of time.

Is it still neurodivergent if it applies to an entire race? Because elves in general in Frieren seem to be very similar in having that kind of mindset, going by the ones that have been seen and the ones that we hear about from Frieren.

    Manga spoiler kinda
Like the one elf who got really hyperfocused into making shitty beer then deliberately set up a prank for whoever found it a few hundred years in the making just because. Not even because she found it funny, just because.

The way I see it there's several approaches to neurodivergency in fiction: 1) the character is canonically ND and depicted properly as such, 2) the character isn't canonically ND but has some traits and mannerisms that are very relatable for people who are ND, 3) the character isn't ND but is used as an allegorical device to touch on related themes

I finished JoJo: Golden Wind today!
Following up from Diamond is Unbreakable was going to be a daunting task, but as a world-spanning franchise I appreciated the different tone and cast. Diavolo was super weak as a villain, and the final arcs dragged in places (lookin' at you Chariot Requiem) but there was some grade A characters, especially Bruno; what a legend. His final death definitely got my misty eyed.

I watched the first 2 episodes of delicious in dungeon and I just don't get it. It just wasn't interesting to me. But I think my tastes are not exactly aligned with popular stuff. I also watched JJK season 1 and can't be bothered to watch the interseason movie to keep going. Sure the art was good but it was also just Naruto. I've seen a few episodes of frieren, and it's pretty good but maybe a little slow for me.

I did watch solo leveling but I think that was more out of curiosity as to why it was the #1 most popular title. And at like 10 episodes didnt take much time.

Finding good shows is such a challenge for me.

I feel the same in some ways. Every episode spends an unusual amount of time cooking, obsessing on, and eating monsters. Then there’s times of serious story elements, which come later. It’s fun, but very strange.

For the manga, I felt the same way. I didn't get REALLY into it until 1/3 to 1/2 of the way through the story after I heard everyone else telling me it was great. Now I love the whole thing.

I think it works better as a manga in some ways. With cute little diagrams of things. It's very much a lover of DnD style comics.

Yes, I really wasn't grabbed by delicious in dungeon at all when I started watching it and initially dropped it after 3(?) epsodes. But people who's tastes I aligned with said it was good so I gave it a couple more episodes and I got into the groove.

I don't think it is an amazing show or anything but it is a nice relaxing watch.

Tell me you haven't reached Episode 11 without telling me that you haven't reached Episode 11. Because I find it hard to call it "relaxing" once the show decides "Welp, that was a fun prologue, let's get the story actually started."
