I'd initially written off JJK s2 when folks said it was bad last year, but the juxtaposition of impressions since then has been kinda fascinating so I might give it a look.

I've seen the first season, which was fun as hell. And the movie, which was aggressively mid.

Honestly I LOVED the second season of the anime which is why I'm reading the manga.

JJK 0 I feel like mostly gives you some characters and context. The internal narrative arc as a movie could've been done better.

But yeah you should watch season two! For real for real!

And then just like let go of everything you love from that point on, proactively.

The first half of Season 2 is amazing, and probably my favorite in the show.

The second half is... unrelenting, I'll give it that.

I've tried reading JJK twice now and both times got a few dozen chapters in before it lost me; I was curious about what's going on now, though, so I tried reading the most recent chapter to see if I could work out what the fuss is about, and to be honest I couldn't tell. Is there any way to explain what's so surprising about these events without needing hundreds of chapters of backstory?

so they're in the final battle against sukuna right now (presumably). Gojo was the favorite character in the series, and sukuna killed him. He's also been killing a ton of other people. Anyway, after sukuna left the body of the main character he's basically been sidelined and useless until very recently, and the new main character was his brother, who was the MC of the one shot (which was made into the movie JJK 0), who was ALSO recently killed by sukuna.

Except he wasn't killed, they got him out in time barely, and used his ability to steal the powers of one of the other primary bad guys which lets him transplant his brain into other bodies (which, sidenote, also means said bad guy is MC's mom, but that's a while separate things), which he then used to put his brain into Gojo's body, which is now back
oh, interesting -- Yuji still seemed to be the main character at the point I dropped off, so I guess things have moved on a whole bunch since then. Thanks for the explanation!

    (JJK Manga)
Worth noting this final battle has been going on for dozens of chapters at this point, and much like the Shibuya Incident, any point at which you think a hero could put an end to it, SOMETHING out of left field ruins things and keeps the disaster going on even longer.

All the character deaths are melding together at this point, and most of them barely even register, since you never know if the character truly died or if Gege's going to come up with some crazy way to bring them back.

Apparently the studio isn't being seen as, well, an optimal choice:
"Damn. This series would probably have explode if it was given a decent adaptation like JJK was. It's pretty much Dad John Wick and has some of the best action paneling in Jump right now.

I don't have any faith in that studio."
"Goddamnit, TMS is animating. There's no hope for this. I'm crushed.

Shueisha had a smash hit on their hands and decided to throw it away. Fucking unbelievable. "

Wait, since when has TMS been considered bad animation?

Like, did their pedigree drop off somewhere? They’ve been around forever, their 90s output was gorgeous, and while I haven’t seen Angel Dust yet, I rewatched Shinjuku Private Eyes and that looked fantastic

[EDIT: wait no right, City Hunter is sunrise, but I think TMS is connected in some way to them?]

Assuming there’s not some other TMS, it’s Tokyo Movie Shinsha, in which case their pedigree is decades long. Lupin, Detective Conan, basically every 90s western cartoon you loved as a kid when they Good Animation Studio was on call for an episode.

in the last decade or so, you’ve got The Woman Named Fujiko Mine, Lupin Parts 4 through 6, both seasons of Megalobox, the Doctor Stone adaptation, etc.

That’s why I’m baffled that people would think TMS is bad animation.

From what I gather, it's less that they're bad per se, and known for being a workhorse studio that just churns stuff out without much in the way of real effort.

That, the Sakamoto Days fans are hyped for all the action that's happening that they want a major studio to animate it, maybe?

[I’m assuming these jump cuts are by the uploaders? I still need to check out the UU anime; also lord I didn’t realize how fast that adaption consumed chapters going by some of these uploads]

That’s the weird part about the reaction, because TMS is like one of the biggest and most established studios. It’s like Complaining Sunrise (god I don’t wanna call it by its new name man…) isn’t a good studio just because it’s not MAPPA or MADHOUSE

    Both are Nippon TV, yeah

EDIT: wait no, that’s broadcaster, double checking studio to see

EDIT: okay yeah, OLM did both, specifically Team Iguchi for Berserk, and Apothacary is a joint OLM/Toho production

Undead Unluck adaptation suffers a lot because of a high amount of unnecessary flashbacks, that ruin the high pace of the manga. I honestly recommend watching the anime with the finger on the speed up button whenever we see something that does not need reminding us about.

And it is a shame, because high pace is one of the strenghts of the manga's story.

Yeah, my first thought was "oh, the folks that did the best-looking episodes of Tiny Toon Adventures/Animaniacs" -- which was a long time ago, and in a different context, but, still, they definitely come with a bunch of positive associations for me. (edit: hang on, they did _Akira_, and that's not enough?)
