This is a distressing trend.
Partly; ANN lists the production being joint between Aniplex (Sony subsidiary), BONES, Dentsu Inc., Mainichi Broadcasting System and Square Enix (who own publishing rights on the manga and I would assume are likely the primary company dealing with any derivative works as long as Arakawa’s publishing deal with them lasts)

The main character is a footsoldier who has had enough of this and decides to infiltrate the rangers.
Also the red ranger is most commonly compared to Homelander.
Edit: Oh, the bit in the ED where they turn into the rangers, that's just artistic license. The rangers are separate characters.

Eh, it's likely the same thing that happens here in the US and nails a lot of performers - they're working as contractors and not employees, and as such the bookkeeping is on their end, not the company's. Now, there are two issues here - one is a matter of education (as many times these people don't realize that they have these obligations), and the other is a question of classification (though given how many established mangaka set up incorporated studios, I'm thinking that this isn't the case in this matter.)
What's the show called?
The other thing I've gained the impression is that given Mangaka's workload, they may literally not have the time to handle tax returns.

Yeah, as others have said the official English title is Go Go Loser Ranger, though before that it was being fan translated as Ranger Reject so you may have heard that title.
The anime adaption ended up on Hulu in the US.

In Kakuranger, Tsukihime is technically the overall leader despite not being the red.
Incidentally, it’s getting a 30th anniversary Net Film this year through Toei Tokusatsu Fan Club:
Akibaranger is a three-member team where it’s two women and one man:
[there was an English subbed one but this one’s less blurry]
and akibaranger is a satire of the genre right?
has there ever been a female red ranger?
Though this is negated because she is unable to fulfill the duties in defeating the Gedoshu, so in turn she officially “adopts” Takeru as her heir so he can officially take her place as the 19th Clan head and return to the role
Except because it’s power rangers, the characters are white.
And still named Shiba, and ostensibly descended of a Japanese feudal clan.
So they literally cast white actors as Japanese
No clue since he sold it all off to Hasbro what he gets if anything now.
Not that apparently they’re doing anything with it, since sounds like Hasbro themselves has no fucking clue what to do with the property, as it was an initiative by a previous head of company who passed away.
Lanz can probably clarify if this continued, but the main character in the first 10 or so Donbrothers episodes I watched was the lady in yellow. She was just trying to have a normal life and kept getting summoned to sentai activities against her will. Similarly the pink ranger seemed like the viewpoint character for Boonboomger as well. On top of all of the other examples I would've also used, yeah.
Now, if you want to get into tokusatsu shows featuring mostly women, I have a playlist for you! Advance warning, turns out having all girl teams means the shows are mostly fanservice!
Cutie Honey: The Live isn't on that list because we were watching it weekly as I shared those clips of other, similar shows.
Then the recent anniversary series / possibly last ever Power Rangers was all original and had the pink ranger from the prior season promoted to red ranger and leader.
(this is a fan intro because I can't find the one from after they changed suits)
I'd say the big manga publishers tends to be more conservative on gender than Japanese culture at large, though it super depends on the particular title. Not necessarily because the authors are conservative, but just in that very Japanese way of like, this is entertainment and bringing up stuff that might piss people off isn't very kosher. For smaller publishers stories can get a lot more openly political.
Tomino wanted the protagonist of Turn A Gundam to be a girl back in 1999, and Sunrise wouldn't let him.

however, in early concept art loran actually had a much more stereotypical shonen protagonist-y look before becoming the laura rolla we all know and love
If I had a nickel for every mangaka being looked at for tax evasion... I don't know how many nickels that would be, but I should probably figure out it and declare it to the IRS before I get audited.

I feel certain that Akiman’s bottom right designs there got turned into Keith, with a dash of the middle two in the top two rows for the hair:
