I find that for comedy, the difference in language efficiency makes preserving the timing of jokes a lot more difficult. Even if you don't understand the language, vocal posture conveys a lot of punch if the animation is designed around it. Drama is easier to translate

Drawing 30 pages of serial comics [Part1] Draw MANGA 30 pages 28:19
    https://youtu.be/AyIOZSR08zQ

I recorded the manuscript work of the third episode of the manga "Hanako-san" in the series serialized at Champion RED until all pages were completed.
    That's Part1.

Basically, all pages are drawn by myself.
(I made the instructions only for the mask work of the finish tone and have the house prepare it.)
This time, I work only 6 to 7 hours every day after noon due to schedule with other work.
About 1.7 sheets a day. Since it took about 5 pages in 3 days, I created the image using the "122 progression method".
It is "122" which means 1 sheet on the first day, 2 sheets on the 2nd day, 2 sheets on the 3rd day.
Six sets (18 days) of keeping a total of five pens in three days.
It is a record of that day.

A good example of this just came out and is topical!

The Konosuba dub is real strong. I tend to rewatch stuff dubbed if I want to rewatch it, just to check it out.

Anyway the cast is all really good, but Kazuma in particular gets an incredible range of jokes from delivery and timing that doesn't seem to translate quite right. A key example is just the "Hai Kazuma-desu" line which is just literally translated but doesn't land the same. But the VA is still really good.

I am starting to like Konosuba much much more now that I am further into it

Megumin is surprisingly endearing, and much cooler looking than I expected once she takes her hat off

Kazuma definitely reads like the Straight Man, and I do enjoy how capable he is when he's not being either a jerk or incredibly selfish. The idea of him just picking up a bunch of different handy skills is cool

Darkness is absolutely my favourite character, I just wish she didn't have a goddamn boob plate because they will forever annoy me

Aqua I feel bad for, but she really does constantly make her own situation worse, and I am curious why her powers sometimes just... don't work

Kazuma being an ass is very important, because the entire party is about people that wouldn't be accepted in pretty much any normal party. They're a bunch of rejects. And Kazuma's flaw is not a lack of competence, but rather being such a fucking noxious petty little goblin that he'd get instantly kicked from any D&D party I've ever been in.

if you have funimation access, the infinite dendrogram dub is pretty good

I really dislike dubs in general, honestly - i'd much rather watch media in as close to the original form as possible. Esp with anime, there's just something about watching the VAing, and the emotion they put into things. Dont quite know how to put it - but it's very very rare i like a dub, let alone like it better than the sub (I think Howl's moving castle is the only one i point to)

Edit: Oh god, he's got animal ears and human ears now. That's horrifying

    ok

Like no shame if you do enjoy dubs or prefer them? i just like watching stuff as close to the original production as possible - if i actually knew Japanese (rather than a super-half assed understanding of it from watching far too much anime), i'd be watching stuff with Japanese subs if i could. (I watch basically any media with subtitles, just the way my brain works. Bad subtitles are the worst though, Seed Destiny on crunchy roll had some really badly timed ones)

But yeah, if dubs are you jam! Sweet! i dont get it, but i dont need to! you should do you!

was kinda abrupt to reply to 'hey this dub is good if you have this streaming sub' with a tangent about dubs vs subs (a topic that has been tiring and endless since the dawn of time itself)

It's reminding me of the Bakemonogatari etc series honestly, though i think i'm liking it more than Bakemonogatari - I kinda fell off the wagon with that show a while back, and honestly, i think i'd find it a bit gross these days? (thinking back to some of it's content, etc, there's some very uncomfortable at best stuff)

I am pleased with the way this is weaving in the characters, though i worry that once this arc is over the show might fall apart just because of how tightly woven the characters are. Guess we'll see!

I will go to bat for Monogatari every time. That series, both the novels and anime, is incredible and does everything it does with a purpose. It's about awkward, uncomfortable things and the flawed people that they happen to.

I think that it's just something you have to engage with on it's own framework. Even small things like noticing when the camera is representing different people gives a lot of insight into why things are framed the way they are. Like Araragi being way more ripped when it's Hanekawa. But when it's Araragi you'll note Hanekawa has a bit more curve to her. They both dig the shit out of each other.

Look, I love the Monogatari series, and there’s definitely parts where it’s meant to be horny and uncomfortable because a significant portion of the show is flawed teens learning how to emotionally connect and be intimate with each other.

But there’s also shit like the “jokes” Hachikuji is subjected to. Or how Kiss-Shot is almost constantly depicted as a small child. There are extremely legitimate reasons for people—me included—to be put off by the show and reluctant to recommend it.

That's on you, and you're welcome to it. I stated why I will go to bat for it, and my interpretation of scenes based on the novels and anime might differ from yours. That's fine and how art be. I didn't once say anyone was wrong for how they feel about it. Put the claws away.

    Have you seen the anime?

Because every Hachikuji arc includes a couple molestation jokes, and it’s super gross.

If the light novels don’t have any of that, then great! Sounds like I need to switch over cuz it extremely sucks whenever the anime does that shit.

yep the Hachikuji stuff just utterly perplexes me by its inclusion. It just feels tonally off in every way possible and it super makes me not talk about the show much because of how awful it is. I was really glad when they stopped happening.

the Shinobu thing is weird but doesn't bother me as much, except for a couple of scenes which are... not ideal

Yeah *gatari had real problems. The director was even upfront about them, he's said in interviews that a ton of that stuff they only do because it sells blurays. So I mean, points for honesty at least I guess.

It kinda creates two issues. Once is just that the novels are obviously really heavy on the wordplay, and gets a lot of humor out of having suggestive conversations without ever actually showing a thing, so when it's revealed that actually nothing happened it's funny. But the anime tends to take it all literally, which allows for more t&a but kills the actual joke.

The other, bigger issue is that the fanservice is often objectifying and can use rapey imagery. It's quite crass, basically always just done as little asides that aren't actually canon to the story (aka: easily added to the blurays). Which is a real issue when the actual script actually deals with sexual abuse surprisingly well.
Senjougahara is an abuse survivor and still has issues around sexual intimacy as a result... but also she doesn't need or want her boyfriend to fix it for her, she's working through it, they have clear communication about what she is and isn't comfortable with, and they're very happy with their relationship.

Most of what I consider the strongest 'Gatari story arcs are the ones that have a narrative POV that isn't Araragi. They give you so much insight into all of the characters and show you depths that Araragi either never notices or doesn't comment on.

    Also why I love Hanamonogatari

I really loved the use of Araragi in both of those as well; he shows up towards the end and his actions don't instantly resolve everything... they're just part of the conclusion/epilogue and tie everything together

I super love the whole cast of the show, including Araragi, and I find it fascinating and incredible how much depth they're all given through so many different executions of the same sort of storytelling
