Also memes. No context for the memes, but it's like a secret handshake where it's initiated then people in the know respond with the counterpart phrases.

Shorty I am a hyperbolic person.

I say the following with no hint of irony or hyperbole.

Gurren Lagann ended Anime for TWO YEARS for me.

I am not kidding. I just stopped. Gurren Lagann gave me everything I ever wanted out of a piece of media.

Gurren Lagann is ridiculous but it, much like Code Geass, loses a smidge by not getting to watch it with the rest of the zeitgeist to get reactions.

It is, however, responsible one of my favorite AMVs in the day. Throwing in spoilers because this is basically a speedrun of the series and chock full of spoilers and someone in-thread is watching.

Watching Code Geass in real-time as it released with a bunch of forum friends was a wild ride I don't think I'll ever get to experience again

Every bit of ridiculous exponential escalation in Gurren Lagann is justified solely through "Fuck you, it's cool!"

And it makes that work while still being incredibly emotionally resonant

    It's great

this show is like how in DBZ they'll beat up the big bad and then a week later that guy's bigger badder cousin will show up to avenge his death except it does this a million times bigger and over the course of 28 episodes instead of several hundred

Some people don’t like the ending of Gurren Lagann. Those people are wrong.
Having the very obvious Gundam main love interest from the antagonist side pass away was a great decision.

It was logical, it was her choice, and even though I didn’t much care for the character you bet your ass I cried like a dumb baby at the victory lap wedding.

catching Gurren Lagann as it was airing is still one of the highlights of my anime watching history

that was a hell of a show to watch week to week even if it's aged well as a binge-able series

Watching the meltdowns in real time was hilarious

    ending
Disagree. It works with the shows themes around loss, grief, acceptance, and moving forward

I've no interest in ever rewatching GL because of the ending.

It actually took me a while to realize it ruined the show for me, I still think moments are hype but taken as a whole I feel nothing about it now.

The themes of Gurren Lagan just did not click with me so while I didn't like the cheap downer twist at the end, I wasn't invested enough to really care.
