goddamn this pun
damn i made another one, damn
damn
Not really any big developments, just more stuff continuing to develop, and Tomoko continuing to unintentionally shatter Fuuka's sanity.
- Fuuka really does seem like she's got a bit of a latent crush on Asuka or something. She's really bothered by her suspicions about the two of them, it kinda feels like Tomoko's old jealousy towards Yuu's boyfriend.
- Tomoko moves up in her grade rankings, which is nice. Yuu moves down, which is... inevitable. Asuka moves down too so now she's in Tomoko's rank, which seems extremely intentional on Asuka's part.
Actually to break into paragraphs: regarding Asuka, I find her writing really interesting. She's one of the very few characters where we basically never see her thoughts, even after all this time her motivations are kind of a mystery. Early on this felt like a pretty obvious writer's device, she sure seems like she's into Tomoko but to keep it a mystery the writing simply never lets the audience in on what she's thinking. It also keeps Tomoko from seeming like TOO much of an idiot, since she has no idea about Asuka's feelings towards her either. The audience suspects, but we're not certain, and that makes Tomoko's own lack of certainty understandable. It always felt a little bit like cheating to me though, they're kind of breaking the rules on this one character to keep the audience in the dark.
Although as a digression within a digression, it's interesting how it's probably not like they're avoiding showing Asuka's thoughts in a Yuri Subtext way just to avoid The Gay Stuff from becoming text, cuz Ucchi's right over there on her whole ongoing journey of queer self acceptance. But for Ucchi it's that self discovery that's really her character arc, she doesn't have to get with Tomoko to grow. Asuka's thoughts not being shown suggest that she's on some other kind of arc.
What's interesting to me is that as we've spent more time with Asuka her blankness has moved beyond just a device for the consumption of the audience, it's gradually become more obvious that none of the other characters have any idea WTF she's actually like inside her head either. She's obviously a naturally nice person, she's not some secret psycho. She lives that popular girl image really well so people like Fuuka just kind of assume they know what she's like, but she's actually very isolated, she barely seems to have any real friends. Asuka really reads to me like a closeted girl who's got most of herself shut off. She wants to head off to college and leave her whole crowd behind her. Considering Tomoko's constant awkward mixed signals Asuka doesn't know for sure if Tomoko's into girls for real, so she flirts with Tomoko in kind of deniable ways, and ways where it's entirely up to Tomoko to follow up or not, so that Asuka won't out herself.
It's not like that's the only possible explanation for how Asuka acts, but at this point I think it's pretty much the most supportable interpretation. I'm still hoping we're gonna get a big development at the study camp with her.
Where the fuck do I start
I have Hulu, Netflix, Funimation, and Crunchyroll at my disposal
I haven't watched it myself but I have heard good things about Iron-Blooded Orphans, which is on Netflix.
Ideally you would watch the original Mobile Suit Gundam, but I don't think that's available to stream anywhere.

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing is on Crunchyroll, is that it?
Steam Switch FC: 2799-7909-4852
The 08th MS Team (on Hulu) is a good one.

I got halfway into the first episode of the original show.
That's a condemnation of me, not the show, by the way.
Yeah like Hibike was plainly never going to go Full Yuri, but I think while Yamada is in charge of it it's got a really wonderful queer perspective. Which is really even better because it's not primarily a romance.
There's parts which drive me nuts where they're not willing to admit what's going on, but like Kumiko crushing on Reina early on is super well done.
Especially since like the whole theme of the first season is being OK with not fitting in and disrupting the group. Which is a pretty damn subversive theme in a Japanese show.
And Char Aznable is just a dick.
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing - Opening 2 | Rhythm Emotion V2 w/ Beeps 1:30
The most exciting part of Gundam Wing, it's a trap!
This will be here until I receive an apology or Weedlordvegeta get any consequences for being a bully
Wing is not an outlier at all to the point where 00 is essentially a remake of it.

Also Panda is the boss.
But enough about Jojo
Steam
Or you could just play Super Robot Wars, which has all the drama of Gundam without having to watch all those episodes.
Yes!
Awesome!
Wait.
Which one?
And now maple is literally eating her way out of this Goatse demon
This show is fucking wild, y'all
Oh yeah, the Gundam Thunderbolt films are free to stream this month!
I mean, there's context of the war that you won't quite understand if you aren't familiar with the UC setting, but they're pretty stand-alone otherwise.
They're also, uh, kind of dark and nihilistic even for Gundam, IMO? Like, they're good, but not feel-good in any way at all.

A lot to handle.
