Long running series? Might I have a moment of your time to talk about my religion, Gintama?

Skipping the first two episodes because they are bad, the rest is pretty much a perfect show to me. The pacing is snappy when it's telling a story but it also has no issues just meandering for several episodes about a homeless dude suplexing someone.

Then it dumps a serious arc on you with an incredible series is fight scenes and a really great emotional pay off.

Then goes right back to ball jokes next episode.

The real meta season ending episodes are really great too. One they explain why they take breaks in seasons instead of using filler, or another it's a character poll episode.

Also the conveyor belt scene will never not be funny to me.

Yeah, especially the 4Kids version of them

    GAIO GAI-O!

His name's Zolo, he's just like a samurai. And the L-A-D-Y Nami's not shy. Usopp's doing that marksman thing, Sanji's cooking, Chopper's doctoring.

GOTTA GO, GOTTA GO HO HO

i love this stupid song, it appears on a couple of my playlists at work

but yeah ive legitimately thought of the best ways to catch up on one piece because i have friends that are interested because I enjoy it and i couldn't come up with anything that still didnt sound intimidating to them

The best way to catch up to One Piece is to have a library system that owns the entire manga series, and then have someone who wants to read it. That's the only way I managed to do it.

Some anime YouTuber said “the great thing about one piece is that you can hop in at any arc they are all self contained!”

    And I was like

Motherfucker they reference shit that happened 20 years ago constantly don’t even try to pull that horse shit

they do but they also don't really expect people to remember that stuff when they bring it back up

One Piece moments that made me tear up:

    - Nami asking for help
    - "A man only dies when he is forgotten"
    - Usopp vs Luffy
    - "I want to live!"
    - Going Merry at the end of Enies Lobby
    - The revelation at the Mink Tribe when Kin'emon arrived

One Piece moments that made me go FUCK YEAH:

    - "You asked me if I can throw a punch"

I lucked out and got into One Piece mid way through Water 7.

That through to Marineford is probably the strongest stretch it's ever had and was hype as hell for several years.

The only long running series I can envision myself coming back to rewatch is Sailor Moon. It's mostly all entertaining monster of the week silliness with occasional nuggets of momentum, then you have a season about a girl and her horse that you can ignore, then Stars is badassery from jump street.

Darwin’s Game is something I’ve been craving for awhile

    What's the premise?

Death game where participants get involved by downloading a phone app that gives them a special power called a Sigil and they earn points by getting into a match and killing the other player or players. It expands further as time goes on but that's the most basic premise.

Mother's Basement did a good overview:

I like Yonkombecause it’s easier to type on mobile and also something unique to One Piece as a title.

I call the Warlords the Warlords likewise because it’s easier to type

Kind of like how Umineko fans refer to it as Seacats. Actually, I guess that's not the same...

One of the best characters in Darwin Game is the guy on the right of that thumbnail. His Sigil allows him to detect when someone is lying. That's it. It doesn't stop him from being incredibly effective though, since deception doesn't work on him and he can make decisive moves without hesitation.

i go back and forth on this series because the pacing issues are real and wild, but in some ways it feels like necessary baggage of the themes it's swinging for, which do not lend themselves exactly to load-bearing final bosses or a return to the status quo being a happy ending

    anyways the page of
    real-world
imagery was a bit goofy but i liked this chapter a lot. it's a hell of an endgame confrontation and i hope they can stick the landing
The big thing is that the episode showed how strong Emma is. She's not a Pollyanna, she knows full well the atrocities the others have committed and says that she cannot forgive them. But she's also realized that the pain and suffering of the world is due to the cycle of hate and revenge, and to end the former requires that someone break the latter.

So that's what she's going to do, and she's committed to it.

It's also a gamebreaker in a social game, which is what they're in. That said, the lead basically has a modernized version of Unlimited Blade Works for his Sigil, which us just as gamebreaking.

Black Clover is getting its first anime-only arc.

HOWEVER, the arc is being supervised by the mangaka, is taking place during the small timeskip in the manga, and is being considered canon.

Ugh, I am apprehensive. Just go on break like MHA does for half the year.

Even if it's canon, nothing can advance the story or character arcs. It'll be every character saying their stock phrases and nothing else.
