Finished Gen:LOCK. It was good! Rooster Teeth does excellent work. It's only 8 episodes, with one short arc, but it definitely felt like it was a trial run for something bigger.
Watching Radiant. It's okay. Feels like a Saturday morning cartoon, tbh.
The opening song is fantastic as well.

something something Gekigangar III
Got caught up on MHA Season 3. Still good! I've read the manga so not a ton of surprises but it continues to be a very good adaptation and the dub is one of the best around.
Beastars was fantastic, complex and intricate in everything from the rules and logic of its world to the examination of teenagers and how they process their own bodies and sexuality. Haru is one of my favorite female leads in ages and a shockingly interesting and respectful look at a young woman whose relationship with her own sexuality is both empowering and toxic at the same time and how she copes.
SSSS.Gridman was basically perfect and blew me away going in with little knowledge other than it was a sentai/Ultraman style deal. Rikka and Akane were just...absurdly compelling, each in their own way, and all of the Samurai Friends were great comedic relief and fun as hell in a show that definitely needed some levity.
Lu Over the Wall was pretty sweet and light, oozing style but not a ton of depth there. Would die for Big Shark Dad, though.
I've been reading Radiant. It's impressively manga-y considering the author is French and lives in Canada.
One possible giveaway the author isn't Japanese is the really good black character who joins the cast after Rumble Town. She's just a really well designed character who isn't visually based on a hip hop video or famous crossover celebrity.
I call this...Cross Crash!
waitin' for that hellshake yano
even the nerdy friend guy
also by far my favourite moment was the end of an episode where they're all dressed up for the school festival
People probably will want to watch that post-credit scene before season 2 starts this summer. Although I am sure quite a few people have been spoiled on that particular plot point in the past few years.

Great visuals, great soundtrack, but damn, I forgot how weak is this as a beginning of the story.
- oh hey, Ucchi just straight up calls Tomoko a lesbian in front of everybody. Ucchi I know you're coming from a vulnerable place but you're such a dick, you can't just do that!
- Miho's just like, "Oh, so you really are?" in a way that suggests she already assumed this was the case and is fine with it. It feels like kind of a big deal that Tomoko's gayness is now being openly discussed by other characters though. For her part Tomoko can only manage a weak denial, which also feels kind of noticeable.
- Obviously Totally Straight Tomoko's Eyeballs are working very hard not to look at anything while she's in the bath with the other girls.
- everyone else is quietly enjoying the post-bath massage chairs, and meanwhile Kotomi has it going at max with an ahegao face. No matter how awkward Tomoko gets, Kotomi can always effortlessly be weirder than her.
- Kaho effortlessly noticing that Asuka is kinda fumbling in her attempts to get closer with Tomoko. Kaho seems like the one girl who actually knows Asuka, nobody else really has a clue what her deal is. Also that Asuka being all mothering and sorta bossy with Tomoko is basically just Asuka being awkward and not knowing how to act.
- Ucchi's friends lowkey helping her out by inviting Tomoko and Yuri to come study with them. Ucchi of course just makes it weird.
- I love how Yuri's just like, "Yeah Tomoko, what IS the dumb reason you dyed your pubes?" I enjoy the Tomoko/Yuri friendship and their ongoing assumption that the other one is a dumbass. They're both usually right.
- HMMM so Asuka invites Tomoko to hang out together early next morning. Plz tomoko don't fuck this up and sleep through it. ...Why does it feel so likely that Tomoko's about to fuck this up?
Akasaka hops on the "in 100 days" trend. It's an April fools joke but he might continue if he feels like it

Yeah, it takes it's time to build up the background conflicts to everything.

I'm mildly interested because I know the Webtoon? (I think it's a Webtoon?) has been around forever, but it's always been just enough off my radar that I've never gone looking for it.
Boy howdy, this series has a hell of a fireworks factory in the final 3rd.
I really need to get around to checking out the rest of Hiromi Arakawa's works.

The world is
There is a tower
You gotta climb that tower
And there is a dude sitting on that tower and he sucks
there is punch fighting
It gets built of with who the first people who climbed the tower are, the various powers fighting over it, yada yada
But it takes awhile, and honestly the characters and their motivation are the driving force
It’s so bad it’s art
No, girls is written by bino.
A young boy who has only ever lived in darkness chases his friend, Rachel, a girl who dreams of seeing the real starry sky, through a doorway into the Tower, a place with hundreds of floors the size of entire worlds. Only those chosen as Regulars can ascend through the Tower by completing tests on each floor, with the goal to reach the top where whatever they desire awaits them. However, the boy was not chosen by the Tower. Instead he opened the door himself, marking him as an Irregular, a living catastrophe within the Tower's society. Those who are Irregulars are all monsters of phenomenal power capable of defying the king who rules the entirety of the Tower, Jahad, and the Ten Great Families who serve him. In order to chase after his friend the boy must climb the Tower, acquire allies, and learn to master his hidden strength lest he fall prey to other Regulars, the forces of Jahad, or any number of entities who either desire to crush this new threat or use him for their own ends.
Eventually very punch fighty
its broken down into different classes to that makes it fun. Most of which are vaguely fishing themed
Everyones powers are dumb as shit so you get really fun combinations in fights.
Most of the conflicts are done while also playing games with complicated rules, so youll get shit like "Laser fights while also playing Baseball" or "king of the hill with swords"
Found this article interesting.
*Looks at all the Ascendance of a Bookworm names and titles the light novel translator made after discussing things with the author that Crunchyroll changed.*
Edit - man the crimson demons are huge weirdos . Poor YunYun
Like the TV series, 90% of it made me laugh my ass off, but also like the TV series it always seems that it has to have just a couple of "no, god damn it" parts that give me mixed feeling about the whole thing and prevent me from wholeheartedly recommending the series.
CW rape jokes, spoilers for the movie:
I appreciated that Darkness passed out from the crushing disappointment that all orc men are dead in their world, that's a good joke, but the "haha Kazuma's screaming in terror because he's about to be raped, which is hilarious because male orc rapists are a common trope in japanese porn comics, and these are those but with lipstick on chasing down a male character" """""""""joke"""""""""" is approximately as funny as it would be if the genders were reversed, which is negative funny. Sorry, author of Konosuba, this bit sucks shit!
On the positive side, Kazuma being a scumbag but not too much of a scumbag is funny, and I think the scenes where he is locked into the bedroom with sleeping Megumin by Megumin's mom are honestly pretty sweet and funny. I thought they successfully tread the fine line of making Kazuma feel like the confused, how-do-you-do-courtship-I'm-a-horny-teenager-kind-of-a-dirtbag-who-doesn't-really-understand-relationships that he is, while not being the kind of actually for real bad person who would violate consent when given an opportunity and motivation to do so. He could probably stand to not steal underwear though, that's like his one actual, non-trivial shitty person character trait that's not just people assuming he's done awful things from anime-romcom-style misleading-but-actually-innocent events, and/or him being a confused horny teenager.
Back on the negative side though, the main villain is a "I trick men with my pretty face and breasts to lure them in and rape them with my man penis because I'm actually a man" trans panic stereotype. It SUCKS. It's a one-scene gag, after she takes Kazuma hostage to escape I think she reveals in the next scene when she lets him go unharmed that she's not interested if he's not, or at least that's implied by the fact that she just lets him go, and she's otherwise a pretty good villain character. But they just had to make her trans for a "I'm trans and I'm going to trick and then rape Kazuma" punchline and it taints the whole thing pretty badly for me.
The rest of it I laughed at pretty constantly, but those two scenes really left a bad taste in my mouth and I wanted to rant about them a little. Don't do rape jokes! Just don't! They're not funny!
