Oh boy, this movie is bad.

This was the equivalent of going to see Persona 3 in a theater because you didn't get a copy of the game. The original game is great, and that's it.

    Tower of God Episode 2:

Definitely better than the first one, secondary characters are introduced, and visuals and music are still pretty good.

Although I am still afraid that they will try to cram entire first arc of the story in just 13 episodes...

I remember when I used to read Berserk then I realized the speed at which it updated and I was like yeah I'll come back in 20 years.

I think that was on 2005...20 years might have been a bit optimistic.

I still think Berserk is totally worth a read, even if it's probably never going to reach an ending.

Berserk's one of the few manga series (or just comics in general) that really feels rewarding when I occasionally go back and reread it

Like I think the two-parter of Serpico's backstory might be one of the best short comics stories ever written?

The first arc feels very much like something grimdark getting written by a college guy, though with little tidbits that show his promise.

But like when Miura was going through the Golden Age, Inquisition, and Lost Children stories, holy shit, what a run.

Thanks to whoever recommended Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa a while ago; I just got around to reading it and binged the whole thing in a few days because it was so good.

That ending was one heck of a ride, boy howdy. And I really appreciate that everything got finished off, there weren't dangling loose ends, and it seems like that was the way it'd been planned for an awfully long time.
And it was very nice that there wasn't plot driven by misunderstandings (well, except for a bit early on and a few gag chapters here and there), and I liked that for a harem manga (sort of) it was always obvious who'd he'd end up with, and I liked that for a romance the main couple get together about halfway through and we get to see them proceeding through being in a relationship and what that means.

My favorite panel doesn't have a lot of art, but it does an awful lot of work even so, because of how many things all suddenly came together:
    EGyJNZs.png

The panel structure in general was fantastic, he is very good at repeating things in ingenious ways; chapters 80 and 81, for example, covering a similar sequence of events but with very different people doing them, but still with some common layout:

    wO0nzm2.png

    ON4K2e9.png

    e6pRDjN.png

(that said, I could have done without most of the plotlines involving Shimada, there were Some Problems with them, yikes)

So, I like synthwave quite a bit, especially when I'm reading action/adventure stuff in a modern setting and/or certain kinds of sci-fi. I stumbled across this cool song set to clips from Madhouse's Redline:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J635mqk769k
Is this a movie I should see? I watched a clip of the opening sequence and the animation was pretty nuts. Apparently the project nearly bankrupted them?

Also, speaking of AMVs with crazy animation, the same dj made this (film: The Garden of Words):

That is a terrible description of Garden of Words. It's about two people who haven't decided what they want to do with their lives, and their paths intersect in a quiet garden.

It's a gorgeous film, and my favorite Makoto Shinkai work. Blows Your Name and Weathering With You out of the water.

    redline kicks ass

it's essentially one weird dude's take on Wacky Racers and it has better animation and music than this idea really deserves, and that's why it works

just make sure you watch the sub, if you have the option, because the dub is intolerable

Watched the first episode for Tower of God.
They skipped...a lot of context in the opening chapters and embellished inconsequential filler. For example, Headon. He is supposed to be highly mysterious and playful, not at all loyal to Jahad but rather the Tower itself, but here he's very direct and not at all subtle in any way. In fact of lot of his most important scenes, especially since he doesn't show up for long, were omitted entirely. Princess Yuri as well. Rather than showing her and the Guide traversing the path down, during which they explain they're going down to see the Irregular while giving context to how important being Irregular is, it just comes across as her showing up out of absolutely nowhere and handing Baam OP stuff.

Hopefully they improve as episodes go on, because yeah this wouldn't really hook many people.

    Headon stuff
For showing up so briefly, Headon has some critical lines that help frame the story and foreshadow events. When Baam arrives in the Tower Headon essentially manipulates him into taking a super unfair test by making it seem as though Baam is too weak and if he's afraid of the "first" test" then how can Baam possibly proceed through the tower, showcasing his deceptive nature, especially when Yuri shows up and calls Headon out on not providing Baam with the same tool given to everyone else, the Pocket, further enforcing that Headon is playing tricky buggers. And when Yuri tries to prevent Baam from taking the test because she knows the danger, Headon nonchalantly suggests that if she truly wants to help him, maybe she could let Baam borrow the Black March and he'd just--ah--"look away" for a bit wink wink nudge nudge. Keep in mind he's not loyal to Jahad at all, only the Tower itself, so there's meaning to this action. Then, when Baam goes to the next floor and Yuri questions the test, Headon reveals that as the Tower Administrator he prepares a test equivalent to the value of the wish. So in other words, Baam's wish to find Rachel is of such immense value that it resulted in a suicidal test. Lastly, when Yuri plus the Guide leave, he drops probably the most important line of them all: "Did you see? The boy has gone up. What will you do now?"

I'm hoping it gets better as it goes on. Animation is decent but sometimes context is really important, especially for the opening hook!

Gleipnir is a manga I didn't expect to see get an anime.

It's a good series, though. It has a style that some people will definitely not enjoy, but Claire is fantastic as a character.

I was kind of curious about some of the changes they made in the anime. Nothing big so far but they shifted around some reveals and I don't even think they mentioned the person who gave Claire the coin. Though it would have already come up.
