Do you have a source? Not that I don't believe that it's possible, but I do think that we (the PA community) tend to get carried away some times with our reads into these concepts.
I've been digging it so far. My take is the tests up til now have been vehicles for us to learn about the characters. Their competence and success have kind of been a given, since it's early in the story and things are being set up.
Aside from the second test (the battle royale deal) these have mostly been "do you have even the bare minimum of potential". Like, failing means you're not even qualified to be a mook.

They are both correct reasons the dwarves are bumbling oafs! The narrative reason is because they're dumb noble adventurers in over their heads, and the metanarrative reason is to have some hapless adults to drag Bilbo out on an adventure and give him protagonist things to do. I agree it's a novel aimed at young readers but it definitely makes the point a few times that the dwarves' greed is their great weakness and moral failing, contrasted to Bilbo who only values material wealth in so far as it allows him live a modest, comfortable life.
It’s not great, but Dio is good
Speedwagon is fucking ridiculous sounding, but not as bad as Young Joseph
bikes are cool
I mean, they all have been, but also part 5 is too.
Also, specific to part five,
The dub for Part 3 and onward is done by a different studio and it shows. The quality becomes more traditionally good and it gets really good at adding entertaining turns of phrase.
I was going to post a video that I think illustrates the sometimes amazingly ridiculous turns of phrase very well, but it seems like the YouTube channel I would have gone to is gone.
It was a bunch of stuff from the Harvest episodes.
I actually love that Speedwagon is basically a WWE commentator. I think it fits the spirit of the show very well.
yeah the dub is super ridiculous and I think that's so so perfect for every inch of the show
They had, ah, seasonal herbal supplements in their system but I'm glad I watched that show dead sober, because holy shit is the atmosphere that show creates intense. I'm enjoying it a lot but hoo boy does Kon step on the gas and never let off the throttle until he's made his point clear
Bofuri was praised for being the rare game based show that actually seemed like they were playing a game. Unfortunately, they took that SO far, we actually watched them level grind several times. In lieu of plot or antics. Very bad choice.
With my week off, I had enough spare time that I wasn't playing 7 Remake to pick up a new show (since Magia Record, Bofuri, and Dendrogram all ended). I decided to pick back up Steins; Gate 0, which I originally stopped because I wasn't in the right headspace to enjoy it as it was coming out. Liking it now but... Steins;Gate takes the law of conservation of characters to an absurd degree. Spoily non-spoilers below.
i do like montages, though. more than most other parts of film or anime, in fact.
Sherlock Holmes is the premier opium addict
Reintroducing Nessa: beloved Galar region Gym Leader and model! She strives to be the best in both fields…but Chairman Rose advises her to focus on one path to have the most success. Will she sacrifice one dream in pursuit of the other?

Sherlock talk was in the Movie thread.
holmes is a violent coked out lunatic who is consistently adversarial with the police to spite his narc brother
he solves crimes because he's an obsessive compulsive, and almost always a shitty rich murderer, whom he loathes
after the third or fourth time I started cracking up whenever the montage song started
I figure he would turn out to be like Rick from Rick and Morty
One of the spoilers should be about the Rebellion movie which I will watch tomorrow.
Homura won that contest so I have no idea what the movie does with her character but ought to be fun.
AniList
she is very sad
The writing and editing in Venom was horrible but the movie made money, so that's something you can put on a resume. See: the Game of Thrones writers.
This is one of those magna that I see people going crazy about on Twitter occasionally, so I'm excited to see the anime version.
