Exactly. Unlike the beginning and end of the Chimera Ant arc, which were excellent, the training section in the middle was kind of tedious.

The new Ghost in the Shell series is out today on Netflix. I haven't had a chance to start watching it yet but I'm looking forward to it. The CG animation style is certainly going to be divisive, as it always seems to be, but hopefully people will give it a chance.

It's less that and more just that almost every time Gon and Killua get stronger it doesn't feel earned. Even Bisky training them felt like "oh you're geniuses."

I like how the world established that no matter how genius they are, there will always be some guy out there who is even more incredible, like Meruem, the royal guards and that someone from the current arc

Even then everyone still gets fucked if they make a lapse in judgement no matter how talented they are

I’m going to become strong enough to defeat some of the world’s most powerful criminals by thinking about chains for a little bit!

In al seriousness though, I think the vow/restrictions thing is a pretty good way to have a character power up in a more “earned” way

“I can use all types of nen at 100%” was a huge eye roller for me, though

The post-anime arc slaps a restriction on that (beyond the mental state required to have his eyes turn red, anyway).
Granted, it’s “every minute in this state takes an hour off of my lifespan”. Which is a restriction that rarely actually impacts the story unless the character goes full Gon with it and manages to actually burn out their whole life that way.

But I do like the way that Kurapika’s most absolutely OP skill is balanced by being usable against less than a dozen people in the whole world.

Speaking of Ghost in the Shell, did that Arise series ever get a fourth episode? The third one finally felt like Ghost in the Shell and I was actually looking forward to more of that.

Looks like Funimation has almost all of Arise: it has the first 4 OVAs, the movie, and the TV series (which is just the 5 OVAs split into 10 episodes). So the 5th OVA itself isn't available, but most of is available through the two episodes of the TV series that are adapted from it.

There were only four original OVAs for Arise. The Pyrophoric Cult stuff was exclusive to the TV series and tied the OVAs to the new movie. I guess they just packaged those two episodes together later as an OVA but I don't think that ever got a release in the States.

    No "next chapter" date.

I just burned through all the episodes of GITS:SAC_2045and I gotta say overall I liked it a lot, if you want more Stand Alone Complex this is it.
It definitely started strong and then kinda got into a lull as we got into the whole post-human investigation and then had a very abrupt end but it kinda makes sense because this is clearly only half a season. It's very straightforward, very main plot centric though, the episode with Batou and the bank heist was nice but I miss the b-plot police procedural stuff but hopefully we get more of that later on. Also I fucking hate Purin. The combination of being a super fangirl along with like over the top anime reactions just doesn't work for me.

It's a shame the dub is delayed but oh well, what can you do?

Far, far to the west, across the sea, there lies a land called Vinland. It's warm, with endless fields of green grass. It's a farwaway land, where the hands of slavers and the fires of war cannot reach. Come live with us there, someday.

Watching some of that Ghost in the Shell.

Major is definitely an Ilya Kuvshinov girl. So much so that she seems out of place with the other character designs. But she is a fully prosthetic person.

    Episode Three:
The bit where the food stall lady who appears to have been constantly swatting away flies is revealed to be actually swatting away constant pop ups on her optics is pretty good.

lol and ep 3 starts with Catarina reading what is blatantly a yuri novel
Bakarina: They appear to be very good friends dot gif
maid: Catarina put down your romance novel it's time to go to a ball
Bakarina: Hmm wow this girl is really pretty, like REALLY pretty, maybe she wants to talk about Gals Being Pals with me. I should use some lines from that Friendship Novel on her!
    Girl: Take me now
    Bakarina: Yay I made a friend <3
Every Other Boy and Most of the Girls: NOOOO NOT ANOTHER ONE
