Ging barely gives a shit about himself let alone Gon or anyone else
You gotta train your kid to be the swollest

I trust neither of them
Silva loves Kilua in an extremely fucked up way
The basic premise is that two girls separately find passageways from the normal world into a weird sort of liminal space, like one part the upside down, one part shinto land of the gods, one part the shimmer from Annihilation, with a healthy dash of Japanese internet creepypasta tossed in. So they end up teaming up to A) look for a lost girl who might be in there, and
It's always kind of adventure horror, it never descends all the way down into being more than like fun creepy, but some of the monsters and scenarios definitely had me going "ooh nice that's creepy." The anime could be good if executed well and if it goes for better character designs, the novel cover is pretty meh.
It's also technically yuri, which I'm normally a sucker for, but this felt super tacked-on and didn't really do anything for me at all. Maybe that element gets better written in later volumes, I dunno. I'll definitely check out the anime when it comes out, at any rate.
So Gon makes a "Punch Good" ability because that's what he's good at.
And then Ging is soooooo talented at "Punch Good" that he can just develop any Punch technique in pretty much no time at all.
The character designs seemed fine? I thought the cover looked pretty cool.
that is just orihime and rukia
which isn't necessarily a problem cause I dig kubo designs
but like, call a spade a spade
That girl looks like a generic short haired glasses-wearing Moe girl
i have thoughts about the ending
The movie does not take place in the same continuity as the show.

the pacing of the show goes bonkers after episode 12 or so because they got cut from 39+ episodes to 26. whooops
Domestic Girlfriend is bad, but it is legitimately bad in a way you kind of can't stop. I dunno if it's sunk cost fallacy or like watching a trainwreck but you just can't look away.
The giant misunderstanding drama bomb in the middle of Hetakoi was a bit too much for me, and that was just the one bomb.
Edit: Don't Google Hetakoi at work. The author is great at character expressions (though sadly she passed away from heart disease a few years ago), but due to being based around hot springs it has a ton of nudity and one of the more outrageous meet-cutes for the MCs that I've seen.

Apparently this didn't actually happen. Kazuki Akane (the director) was asked about the rumored episode count cut in an interview after Escaflowne got likenesses rescued by Funimation, and his response was they tried to plan thing pretty carefully, and he couldn't remember what would be such a huge, story pacing altering shift happening in the production.
Now, ironically, this actually ended up happening to the Akane's most recent anime, Stars Align!. It was planned to have a total of 24 episodes, but as the end of the first season approached the production pulled the plug on it at the last minute for some reason. He says he still trying to find away to give the story some kind of proper conclusion.
