Demon Slayer episode was great this week.
Daki wailing for her brother, and Gyutaro showing up was cool. The way the scene changed from Uzui drawn silly to serious in a flash was well done.

Next week should also be fire, just like last week.

Yeah I'm honestly loving how stupid overpowered the Hashira are in Demon Slayer.

It sets a real high bar for the protagonists to reach and when they get close to even being like, a fraction as good as Uzui or whatever it's like OH DIP OH DANG LOOKIT EM GO

he does only sometimes, because he's inexperienced and also kubo can't do pacing well

It's a shonen staple heavily influenced by the gold saints from Saint Seiya. An elite unit of heroes who're more powerful and experienced than the main characters and can serve as mentor/allies/obstacles to them.

I literally called the Hashira "The Captains" sometimes in my head when I was reading the series. Though I liked the alternate translation of Pillars for Hashira.

Speaking off, the Gold Saints eventually got their own spinoff. It is pretty awesome, if you are on straight up 80's shonen:
    https://youtu.be/mCJlktWUIc8

It actually deals up with how straight dysfunctional an Elite squad chosen for being the best above all else is (without mentioning all the baggage from the series), and how they grow up into the whole Power Of Friendship (tm) thing since hey, the main cast had a very good point about that.

Probably a bit late to the Sailor Moon talk but yeah, it was jarring back in the day when I encountered the manga in bookstores and found out just how short it was compared to the anime. The fact alone that the Dark Kingdom's four generals were practically monsters of the week in how long they tended to last was a little mind-boggling. If anything though, it probably prepared me some for how different adaptations of the same story can work. Though admittedly, the live-action series IS probably the weirdest take on Sailor Moon outside of fanfics. I mean, you got:
1)Luna and Artemis being living plushies, the former becoming the show's take on Sailor Chibi-Moon later.
    2) Mina becoming the show's Batman in personality because she's dying from some illness.
    3) Turning Usagi's past self into the worst threat of the story as she kills the entire world. TWICE.

I've started watching Star Blazers and I really like the juxtaposition of the extremely indepth, chunky, hard sci-fi technobabble with lol battleship in space

Like, they had a scene in episode three where they shoot a big ship gun and its basically three minutes of space cadets listing off readings and saying things like "tachyon levels 2.5 and rising, main particle whoosits dilation at full pucker, disengaging forward pew pew grav locks" and I fuckin love it.

Hoooly shit episode 13 of Digimon Ghost Game
The monster of the week is a straight up serial killer, and Gammamon's dark evolution as a result is legitimately terrifying - he's basically at arc villain levels of intelligence and sadism, as opposed to the mindless beasts of previous dark evolutions. Even the evolution sequence gave me chills.

Few things I read recently that are sort of similar:

"Doujima-Kun won't be disturbed" has the same sort of "girl teases guy" idea except that the guy is completely unflustered the whole time which makes for a nice change when she just bounces right off him. It's completed, but I guess other than the guy's character it felt pretty generic. Fun enough that I read it all, though.

"Hokkaido Gals / Dosanku Gyaru Are Super Cute" started off okay but has recently gone down the path of "which girl" which is a bit of a shame because it was better without that bit of plot. It does have a bunch of interesting facts about Hokkaido in there, though (and it's interesting recognising some of the place names from Golden Kamuy)

"Fuufuu Ijou, Koibito Minman" ('More than a married couple, but not lovers'), uggghhh, it is dumb. While it started off with 'guy and gal who is out of his league', the progress of that part was very predictable, and it also went towards 'which girl' almost immediately and I wish I didn't want to know what happens in the end because it is very unclear why either of the "which girls" likes the main character in the first place because he is a Big Dud more than usual. Ugh.

Another to consider is "Please Go Home, Akutsu-san" which is a very quick read as each chapter is only a few pages long.

It's about a delinquent girl that decides to spend most of her time in her (male) classmate's room because he's got manga and games and she can just relax there. She also teases him from time to time, but it quickly becomes apparent that she's fallen deep in love with the guy. Which is also obvious to any other character whenever they see the two of them.

There's also "No Matter What You Say, Furi-San is Scary" where a girl that looks like a scary delinquent falls in love with the guy who sits next to her in class. It's officially licensed in English and the second volume recently came out.

In a similar vein to that is "Hitomi-chan is Shy with Strangers" which is about a tall scary-looking girl with shark teeth who is slowly developing a relationship with her short senpai that she spends all her time with. It's also officially licensed in English.

Tonight on AniMenagerie, one of the "???" entries on the schedule ended up being the first Rebuild of Evangeleon movie.

Finally, Penpen in HD as intended. Also giant robots and such.

Then we continued with Bakarina S2 with a Nicol episode and the start of the final story arc.

During Nicol's various marriage interviews, having just finished Eva 1.11, of course our conversation naturally turned to Ramiel turning up as a marriage candidate.

On the theme of non-harem high school romcoms with mismatch (socially) protagonists, I thought of two more manga. Though unlike the others, both of these have the couple get together near the beginning.

One is "Omoi ga Omoi Omoi-san" (Your Feelings are Heavy, Omoi-san). A boy finally confesses to his crush, and not only does she accept, but she is already planning out their entire life together. Like Akutsu-san, these are short chapters of just a few pages. It also reveals her reason for accepting by chapter 5.

Another is "Saotome Senshu, Hitakakusu" which is a completed manga. Saotome is the tall boxing ace of her high school, while Satoru is the small boxing flop. However, Satoru is surprised when Saotome suddenly confesses to him. However, they end up having to keep their relationship a secret due to Saotome's status of boxing ace that is bringing a lot of attention to the school.

For a bonus somewhat NSFW option, there is the completed manga "Do Chokkyuu Kareshi x Kanojo" (Extremely Straightforward Boyfriend and Girlfriend). It is perhaps the only manga you need earplugs to read. I think it got cancelled at one point, but the author was able to get it in another magazine where she was able to complete it. It's a fun read but not at work or school because they have a healthy sexual relationship unlike many manga romcom characters.

Saotome Senshu is really cute. Also, if you like muscular women do I have a manga for you.
I think If I remember right that manga ends with them having their first kiss. Just the most chaste awkward dorks. They’re great.

It appears that I'm a sucker for stories where all the background characters are rooting for the main couple, because this one does that as well and it is pretty adorable.

One bit that always gets a laugh from me is in Silver Spoon when Yuugo and Aki finally go on a date, and Keiji is like "oh hey are y'all going to town, can I co-" and the entire girls' dorm tackles him off screen.

Oof yeah I saw that as well. Nice to see nearly everyone united against an NFT announcement. Sincerely hope they don't shoot themselves in the foot like that. But then again, Square Enix of all companies swallowed NFTs hook/line/sinker/line/fishing rod, so it stands to reason there's a chance they'll try for the same thing. Especially given their back catalogue of massively famous titles.
