It's actually been a popular theory for a long time that there will be a fifth girl, but her theme color will be orange, not green.
Since the beginning, the logo has had five colors in it. When Mirika was introduced, someone went "Hey, maybe the colors correspond to characters?" and then when Shino was finally seen in color and people saw her theme color was purple, they started expecting the orange-themed girl to show up any time.

I think Shino might have been seen in color before it was officially revealed that she liked Naoya, so that may have clued people in on that?

isn't there an orange ribbon character on that poster already

Here's the whole schtick, but the tl;dr is that youtube contacted him directly, Toei had gone behind youtube's policy backs which seems to have gotten them on his side, they attempted negotiation, Toei appeared to act in bad faith, and youtube went "fuck it" and said "since these videos are in English, they are not targeting Japanese viewers, we're taking the videos down in Japan, everything else goes back up, monetized, and if Toei wants to sue they have to prove fair use violations in an English-speaking court."

This is notable because this is the first time that youtube has done this with copyright violation claims, and is now precedent for others to be able to do the same.

e: Sidenote: if Toei had filed legal claims properly initially, he probably would have been fucked.

As such, there's currently a push for uploaders to be able to geofence their stuff as part of their controls. So if you're in a position to lend your voice to that, might not be a bad idea?

In specific, Toei decided to report every single video on that channel while negotiations were ongoing, which is very much against YouTube's Terms of Service. And YouTube has long been critiziced for letting reports be weaponized against creators, so is not even about the channel itself, is about making sure that everybody else knows where the line is.

Finally went back and finished Shikizakura (which I have now learned is named after (and features) a cherry blossom that also blooms in fall) and it wrapped up nice and neat. Just a solid 12 episode show with a very clear ending. Apparently there's a manga version as well, but I doubt it goes any further.

I don't think anyone watched this at all, but it's a pretty solid monster of the week tokustasu show about half the time, before the plot kicks in. I mentioned it in here before, but there's also one episode with absolutely no fighting or plot, where the main character just hangs out with his brother while they talk and play video games. I thought it worked really well, it's a nice change like halfway through. Also, the OP is pretty great.

I didn't like the ED as much, but it's sung by Sheryl Nome from Macross if that's interesting to anyone.

Finished Tamako Market. Thought the second to last episode was better than the last. Something about the show nailed that small town vibe. The theme for the penultimate episode is about feeling comfortable but not complacent, wanting things to stay the same while also working towards the future which means things won't stay the same.

Charming show, had something to say while also being a relaxing and low stakes (but still sometimes emotional) slice of life.
the episode about the dad's band and the song he wrote for their mother was probably the best one.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't celebrate all the much really. Another Anime Youtuber who mainly focused on Pokemon channel for his comedic takes on Pokemon TV/Movies is basically having his channel shut down due to multiple Copyright strikes by ShoPro the company behind the animated Pokemon productions, using a really nasty legal maneuver. .

The long and the short of it is as follows:

    - Company files a claim in a Japan Small Claims court claiming roughly 80,000 yen in damages based on 0.2 yen per view that this user has accumulated via their site
    - Company then struck multiple videos and attached said small claim to the strikes in the info and sent it to youtube. Claim is not translated from Japanese, leaving the Youttuber to figure out what the claim is even saying
    - Because an actual Court has gotten involved Youtube has completely backed off the claim and basically are requiring the youtuber to resolve the court claim before they'll reverse the strikes, but if he doesn't resolve the strikes, and because he's received at least 3 strikes, once the timer on the claim runs out, his YT channel will be deleted regardless if he fights it or not
    - The wording of the claim basically Amounts to a SLAPP suit with vague allegations of damage and misuse of videos and basically demanding he pay the money, but in order to contest this claim, he has to contest it in a Japan court which would require a local Japan-based lawyer who can speak english and is well versed in Japan-based IP law, which is basically out of the realm of possibility for this guy.
    - So essentially if a Japanese based company decides that they don't like a creator who has videos that can be seen in Japan, they can file a claim that's too big too ignore, but small enough that it doesn't cost them much to file in small claims court, then attach said claim to multiple copyright strikes, causing Youtube to completely abandon any creator protections through its fair use system, and all the 3 strikes to go through, thus terminating the channel.

It's a really insidious legal manuever and sadly completely allowable under the letter of the law. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Toei try this shit with a smaller youtuber or even go after TotallyNotMark as well.

I like to imagine the potential partners in harem/"who will they choose to go out with- type stories coordinate their outfits to not overlap on main accent color on purpose, like they have secret meetings about it offscreen.

Or worse yet, wardrobe determinism, their inclusion in the roster of candidates is determined by their favorite color/flower/fruit/whatever complementing the other ones and not overlapping. 'Convenient coincidence for artistic license?' Never heard of it.

One real big issue for 'harem comedies' is when potential romantic partners get added way later in the story as compared to some of the others, so you absolutely know in no uncertain terms that said romantic pairing doesn't have a shot.

Well, generally the first one introduced (or the one on the first volume cover) is going to be endgame regardless, so even if you're introduced in Chapter 1 it will still be known you're the loser if another was introduced first or gets the volume cover.

Which sucks when fans really like one of the other girls over the main girl (ie. A Couple of Cuckoos).

Girlfriend, Girlfriend is a little different because Naoya has been openly dating two girls from the start, and the question has always been would he add more or stay at just two? So far we're nearly 90 chapters in and he has...
...steadfastly rejected adding either of the other two girls.

Quints and Bokuben also ended up being exceptions to the norm.

This Monday I had to leave AniMenagerie early as I had to pick up a sibling from the airport, so I missed My Hero Academia.

I enjoyed basically everything except for Grape Boy.

Semi-sealed copy of The Animatrix. Probably my favorite Matrix thing. I rewatched the DVD endlessly as a teen. I don't think there's a single one that I don't enjoy on some level. I've gushed about it before in other threads so I'll keep it short but man, the sheer talent involved in this project makes it my favorite supplementary material to a franchise I've ever encountered

from my experience, that's not too uncommon depending on the condition, my grandfather who had parkinson's ultimately died of a brainstem stroke, even after the stroke in the hospital just before he passed had a day or two of markedly higher lucidity. ultimately it was his autonomic nervous system being unable to cope with breathing causing pneumonia he died from more so than the cognitive function even though those were impaired too. not to make it too heavy but it was what i thought of reading the chapter

The schedule has been updated to allow for the same treatment with Symphogear G, and probably all the others if we continue. The last half of each season tends to just be a series of battles within one giant battle, so it's hard to just stop for a week.

We'll have to see how we all feel once we get through the initial allotment of Sailor Moon episodes and start in on Thunderbolt Fantasy, the schedule will probably get changed again then.

I think what I'm learning is that I really like when animes have like, a solid real world setting even if what's happening is insane. So many of them are all "we're in Japan and now here is this guy from the very real Eastern European country of Ludovadillia"

I think that's one of the reasons why I liked JJK so much. They're just a bunch of dipshit teens in modern day Japan, who like Jennifer Lawerence and probably Apple products and also have to fight demons sometimes.

Also I just like the honest little snippets of contemporary Japanese society without all the Edo samurai-yokai trappings we get so often. Fuckin I'll tell you the best goddamn anime for that. Aggretsuko.
