Then I remembered:
But the image is of the main characters falling in air as the mech goes to catch them
Yeah, Number One immediately came to mind, especially given the role it plays in the scene where Aizen lolnopes Ichigo.
man i love that song.
btw, does Transformers the Movie count?
Also Rurioni Kenshin still has a bunch of fight music that is burned into my brain. (Mandatory disclaimer that the author of Rurioni Kenshin is a pedophile, but, well, he had nothing to do with the music in the anime adaptation.)

First time I went to Japan, I went to Tower Records in Osaka and spent an hour until I found the pillows and bought a shitload of their CDs

it's partly made by Toei Animations, so sure why not
although a very large part is done by AKOM, which is Korean - so I guess technically it's less "anime" than it's "aeni" (but the same also goes for a ton of cartoons, because south korean animation studios have done a lot of outsourced work over the years)
forces 1.5 is my favorite version and this will forever be my favorite performance of it

What are some good/great manga collections that are more-or-less self contained within their one book?
Like I know Dragon Ball has a bunch of volumes but could you read the first volume and generally be good?
Is that a fair assumption for manga?
Even the most episodic ones end up going storyline heavy eventually
Any volume of Gon is wonderful as a one off. You can get Azumanga Daioh as a big book that has all 4 volumes inside of it. If you like horror, most of Junji Ito's stuff is one off volumes that stand alone. It's Canadian and therefore more of a graphic novel than manga, but both "Lost At Sea" and "Seconds" from Bryan Lee O'Malley are very nice stand alone works in the manga style for at least a teen audience. I don't recommend shonen stuff, any one volume is obviously part of a serialized story.
In terms of 1 volume stories, Look Back by Tatsuki Fujimoto is incredible. I don't know if it's available in paper though. It might be digital only.
In general there aren't a ton a 1 volume stories though.
Also book 1 of Yu Gi Oh is really good and dark
A Silent Voice is short
