Really have not cared about this Big Drama arc, Kaguya-sama is always at its best when its poking fun at romance tropes and being silly.
But this chapter sure did bring the Hayasaka/Fujiwara ship roaring back to life
May I see it?
It's the law. Read the chapters or spend three weeks in an iso-cube, creep.
I've actually sort-of dropped Kaguya-Sama on the page
SYMPHOGEAAAAAAR!
That opening song is peak Symphogear moment.
It's got big FLCL energy. Like if you took it and mashed it together with Power Rangers.
Plus it's got that Trigger prettiness.
I know what part of the story that must be referencing but I have no idea how anyone makes that parallel.
People reach so hard to fabricate analogues just so they can scold at something
It is exhausting

It doesn't matter the genre, they'd all be improved.
Fullmetal Alchemist, Death Note, Gungrave, Evangelion, Requiem for the Phantom, Baccano, Zombie Land Saga, etc.
It's referencing the part in a recent episode about the 100% benevolent kingdom of magic who went to the 100% evil barbaric kingdom of thieves and were betrayed and run out for sharing their inherantly superior culture and gifts.
It's unfortunately not totally spurious because the art of the barbarian village is sketched from famous photographs of Korean villages, and that kind of racist attitude about Koreans/culture is definitely a thing. I do agree that it's reaching a little bit though and more likely that the artist(s) are just lazy and maybe minorly racist, not like a big overriding theme or anything like that.
That said, consider me the voice of disagreement about the quality of the writing. The first half was decent, if uneven with some weird moments here and here, but the second half has been Bad™. Dragonball bad, except it tries to go maximum melodrama with wailing, weeping, and sobbing every time somebody is stabbed, only for somebody to then pull out a senzuu bean or reveal that they had super healing magic all along and now completely fine so we can get back to fighting the one literally random minion that we've been fighting for two straight months now despite his weakness being shown in his first damn appearance. The pacing has just been utterly fucked in the second half, not helped by being distracted by tons of nonsensical flashbacks and trying to both-sides all named characters, even the remorseless mass murderers, but also there are cultures/people who are Just Plain Evil and even being racist, genocidal, child torturing murderers is okay if it's to defeat them. Pick a lane, dude.
season 3 & 4 has a lot of that for me personally; I don't know if it's because in season 4 ellis got outed and kicked off the show and it was a rush to finish scripts or what.
I don't think it was cancelled, but reading it hasn't gripped me for a while now.
I like the premise of essentially playing Civilization and unlocking all the Techs on the Upgrade Tree, but it suffered from complexity creep (in the story, not the techs) as time went on.
I think the overall pacing is okay, it feels like a reasonable spot on the tech tree to stop, and a place where they'd meant to stop. Towards the end, though, it felt like they started to develop things a bit too quickly / easily / offscreen which was less interesting than "so how do we smelt aluminium" or something more plausible.
Again.
That’s fine, there’s a recap at the beginning.
Steam
the castlevania game series was influenced by berserk and already contained references
they had four seasons to adapt castlevania 3 and fuckin' grant danasty was a bridge too far to include as-is but somehow the not-berserker armor made it in. it's just like, what happened here
Steam
It's not that Grant was too weird to add, they had just already decided to go with a mixture of CV3 and Curse of Darkness, so they had more than enough characters to go around. Including references just to include them is often considered a fault of branded properties.
his name is grant danasty
also c'mon, the gory vampire show where characters say fuck should have had to reckon with the fact that one of their major characters is a pirate named danasty who climbs onto the ceiling and throws knives at people
Do you have a quote for this? Because this
https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a870221/castlevania-boss-reveals-where-is-grant-danasty/
suggests you are misremembering.
Edit: This quote: https://bleedingcool.com/comics/first-time-warren-ellis-wrote-castlevania-animation-ten-years-ago/
does NOT say he hates Grant. He thinks it's completely illogical to have a pirate in a completely landlocked setting, and this is a quote from 2007. I sincerely doubt he held a grudge against the character (perhaps against the name, but who cares?), it just didn't work out in the story to include him.
Yeah he's fucking great. I'm not going to watch a Castlevania III show without him.
Also this should be in the Western Cartoons thread! Where I can't see it to get mad about it!!
All the mech/kaiju stuff is completely superfluous and is really only there as a narrative device to explain why a group of awkward people and their problems have been brought together.
Lots of really pretty, quiet scenes of people just kind of talking and dealing with sort of lowstakes problems and then they gotta go punch a huge Godzilla for a minute or two.
We've ruined @IronKnuckle's Ghost's favorite series, and wasted 8+ hours of @Zonugal's time.
Evangelion is officially dead forever now. Rest In Piss.
