I mean, if we're going off the main three, it'd be Sakura, Sasuke, and Naruto in that order. Probably.

Demon Slayer question: I rewatched the first season and just finished the movie. Should I be skipping the first part of Season 2 and jumping into the next arc, or does the anime Mugen Train arc do enough different from the movie that I should give it a watch?

The first episode is an original story about Rengoku, but yeah, skip the rest.

I would absolutely never recommend KlK to anybody.

I will just hide off in the wings and if somebody mentions it I will slowly slide up behind them and whisper in their ear that Kill la Kill is good actually

Maybe it's just what you're used to? Because, having used both on the PS4, Crunchyroll is the more functional of the two.

Both Funimation and crunchyroll are garbage compared to the Animelab app

which doesn't exist anymore because Funimation ate them up and didn't use any of their tech at all

I am almost exactly catching up with Attack On Titan at the same pace as Oghulk - I'd read up through the manga equivalent of about seas 2, episode 7 back when that was as far as the manga got, circa 2013ish, and then quit because I could tell all the answers to the blatant questions being raised were years away

I'd been spoiled to a certain degree on stuff but it was one of those where I actually think the spoilers actually were vague enough to make things more interesting on an archive catch-up

I think MAPPA does better 3D cgi but definitely miss Wit Studio's excellent character art - though, getting Ranking of Kings from Wit is more than a fair trade tbh

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about Attack On Titan as a whole yet and I feel like part of it is gonna be how well it sticks the landing on its ending
I also definitely don't know how I feel about its politics, and I feel like to get a full informed perspective I'd want to read an essay by someone who is both Jewish and is also very well informed on the Japanese perspective on European imperialism of the 19th and 20th centuries, or multiple essays that bridge those two things neatly, because damn is there clearly a lot to unpack here

I think the problem is there's so many different versions of these apps across consoles, phones, tablets, and other devices that it's hard to have a universal experience. Not to mention what servers you may be connecting to or whatever. But in general I've had bad luck with almost every anime streaming app. The Crunchyroll phone app seems pretty good, but I've always had issues with the console apps. And I've never used Funimation but only heard bad things

I like Crunchyroll's "most recent" feed and queue system better, and Funimation has a lot of problems for me with timing out and getting kicked out of videos. The app also isn't very "snappy" to use compared to Crunchyroll.

Regarding the most recent chapter of Oshi no Ko, I actually had forgotten that Aqua was formerly a doctor in his thirties before getting reincarnated until the little text box reminded me. It really doesn't come up much.

Also I'm surprised this series hasn't been licensed yet.

Which is funny because on Roku the CR app is the opposite of snappy.

It's deeper than jank too. I just think most apps have a curation problem. I have HiDive at the moment (shit app) and there's sooo much content they just don't show you unless you go to the full list and go alphabetical. I'd kill for a daily rotating broadcast ala Toonami or adult swim you could tune into to see some new stuff. Kinda like what you guys do!

Shudder has a few channels where they play stuff and it's really great for when you don't have something specific you want to watch

I went to the popular tab on Crunchyroll and it's just endless. I was adding shows to a list for later, but the popular tag was so deep, I'd never even see all the titles...

I was going to browse the full alphabetical list on crunchyroll to look for prospects, but you can't even skip to a specific starting letter, just keep clicking down starting from A. At least on this version of the app.

Crunchyroll app (on Xbox Series X, just to be specific) lacks the most obvious feature for a streaming app to have. That being: when you watch something, then shut it down and then return later, it shows, as one of the first things on the screen, "Here is the thing you were in the middle of OR here is the next episode in that series if you weren't in the middle of one." Crunchyroll bizarrely does not have this. It has "Featured" banners, a la Netflix. It has "Popular". And it has "Recently added" for shows that added new episodes. If you go into the pause menu, you can get to Your List or History, which is almost that thing, but actually is not quite the same/ as good. Because your history won't have the next episode of the thing you were watching (unless you started it) and it also doesn't have episodes that didn't work, as with the problem I had earlier in the week.

Funimation DOES have this functionality, so that's one of the things that make me wonder what people are on about.

If you don't mind the same three sports betting commercials over and over, the Pluto app has a decent selection of older animes on demand and a few streaming channels dedicated to it. I've been watching Star Ocean EX and the Tiger Mask shows on there, and the 24/7 Naruto channel has improved my sleeping schedule.

More experimentation is required, but it seems like the free version of Crunchyroll now has an ad slate trigger for hitting rewind a single time? I guess that's one way to discourage people running into the rewind buffer issue.
