The Rebuild films are essentially the real, final(?) ending of Evangelion. I guess it explains some stuff, but it also throws a lot more stuff at you alongside it.

They also have a lot of shots so detailed you can feel the money being lit on fire.

And yet, still have shitty CGI!

    I love the shitty CGI.

All Eva is canon, it's apparently a constant loop that gets reset by Shinji(?) at the end each time. Kaoru, however, is unlucky enough to remember every single loop.

Rebuild is the final "loop" that breaks the cycle.

Tonight on AniMenagerie S we're kicking off the second half of Season One! And there's something new and exciting happening!
    3tbmn7e5z6mq.png

That's right, real life! We've got puppets having magical martial arts swordfights on the premier of Thunderbolt Fantasy, and actual real living people as we start Akibaranger! Planning to do both seasons of Akibaranger, but Thunderbolt is still up in the air. And then more reality with Cutie Honey: The Live! There's like twenty Cutie Honey anime and we're watching the one live action season, yes.

PM me if you'd like an invite to the Discord to join us for the beginning of this latest experiment. And also Symphogear, lots of Symphogear, always Symphogear.

so, basically, instead of beeing an AU that could be interesting, the need for Being Canon(tm) means they made it dumber?

Thunderbolt Fantasy is great cause it is one of those shows where you will immediately know if you are onboard or not.

Well I mean, it's great for a lot of reasons actually, but damn if it doesn't open strong.

I like the old ending(s) more honestly, the rebuild films were not an improvement to me

Yeah, I like to interpret EoE as a cautionary tale against pushing emotionally broken people to do things. Oh, you wanted your grieving and traumatized potential boytoy child soldier to defend your base? Too bad, he kills all life on the planet instead. Oopsie woopsie. Did a little fucky wucky.
pretty sure that was actually the goal of instrumentality, tho
    But was it Misato's?

I for one really enjoyed all the Rebuild films, found the ending of 4.0 to be really satisfying, and didn't find how they all tied together with the series to be wanky. I waited like two goddamn decades to see that ending and I was very happy with what I got.

Not perfect, definitely not, but it was more or less what I hoped to see happen at long last.

I think 4.0 works best when you've had a couple decades to marinade on the whole thing and it's impact on the anime-industrial complex, yeah
the army of soulless Rei figures at the end really sells that for me

I think Thunderbolt Fantasy season 1 is really good. The rest of it is okay, still real impressive puppetry, but the character writing and plotting get a lot worse.

    AniMenagerie S tonight:

Sympgoear GX continues to be awesome. It's got a shark-toothed ballerina robot with ice powers.

Akibaranger certainly has a lot of sentai for being an unofficial sentai.

And it's time to play the music, it's time to light the lights...Thunderbolt Fantasy is the story of Saber, Lancer, Archer, and Birdmancer fighting a group of villains who live in the castle from The Dark Crystal.

If I had a nickel for every time I saw a reboot franchise that was actually the final run through of a time loop, I’d have three nickels.

Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened three times.

With the new One Piece chapter out, I've been reading some posts elsewhere and...
..it's been suggested that Oda's been hinting either recently or longer that there might be something off with Luffy's fruit. Possibly that it's been misidentified all this time.

One guess that stood out to me was this one:
So a lot of strong flags that Luffy's devil fruit is awakening. Most reasonable assumption based on symbolism is something Sun related, cause of Nika/Joy Boy, close affiliation to Aces fire fruit, and mirror to Black beard's. I think this works and wouldn't be a bad fit. The one thing that bothers me is how the base-line rubber form doesn't seem to have much connection to the Sun. So I tried to think of some other fruit that could be that poweful but fit more with what Luffy had been doing with his powers. So let me propose an alternative fruit.

What sort of power is so terrifying in the one piece world you need to hide it under a different name? What substance provides fluid like movements, is physically destructive, yet resilient to physical haerm, doesn't conduct electricity in its purest form, and emits vapor when heated up? The answer is.......

    Water

A water logia fruit feels like a real stretch (I'm sorry) for the powers Luffy has shown before. He's always been vulnerable to sharp and piercing attacks without haki, only resistant to blunt force (and musket shots are handwaved as spherical balls so they're blunt). And logia fruit so far have been very obvious about what their element is when the powers are in use.

My guess is that instead of just straight rubber, his fruit is gonna be amber/resin, and have something to do with the tree that devil fruits originally sprout from.

Also, you'd think a water fruit wouldn't have issues with water. Still an option for an enemy to show up with one - it would make them dangerous to Luffy but not really any different from any other logia for Zoro and Sanji.

I'm guessing Joy Boy is related to the Will of D but has nothing to do with Luffy's fruit.

Rubber, however, starts off as tree sap, so it seems within the rules if Luffy's awakened power incorporates that as well.

Watched the first half of 86, and well that seemed like it could have just been the end. And not like...one out of 10+ light novels.
I liked it a lot, moved quicker than I expected. Hoping there being a ton more of it doesn't manage to ruin itself.
