Magath and Shadis blowing themselves up to take out the boat felt kinda unnecessary but also it's a decent enough excuse that I guess I don't really care, maybe.
Ares is an idiot.
Which doesn't mean it's not horny as hell or fanservicey, but it does at least help avoid some of the grosser stereotypes of that kinda story.
Kinda similar to Inertia 67%, which is also horny as all get out but not gross about it.
Yes I read romance manga for all the blushing why do you ask?
It's a great reason to!
The series also definitely does a grand job of ultimately making the two leads feel like equals, even if we get less Female Gaze camera time on Gojo
It was alright! Like a lot of anime-movie-series things it felt very rushed, but it was mostly rushing through things that were engaging on the way through a story with a distinct arc. The main guy is a bit overly shonen protagonist, but I still liked him. And a lot of the joke beats worked quite well.
I've heard great things about the fights in the series, but I didn't think the sequences in this one were that interesting. A bit too focused on 1-hitting stuff and More Powerful Beams. But the language kid was neat and I'm sure in a series there's more time to have fun with that.
Todo and Yuji vs. Hanabi is so damn good and just a fantastic showcase of just how creative the powers can be.
Oh neat, I thought he was fine enough but you know a bit overly like "yelling my feelings" protagonist. And it seemed like he got his arc. I knew the movie was a prequel but didn't realize the series had a different main cast.
Big Bad, Gojo, and Okkotsu make 3. Who's number 4? Have we met them yet?
Is it one of Yuji's conspicuously absent parents that his grandad was probably going to bring up on his deathbed?
The female gaze on him tends to focus less on his physical attractiveness, and more on his emotionally resonant aspects (mainly his passion for his interests in regards to the abundantly passionate Marin.) For example, at the beach, what captivates her to the point where she gets a picture is seeing Gojo staring at the ocean, clearly consumed by emotion by the sight.
It's a good demonstration of how the male and female gaze differ in media.
One of the frustrating if understandable bits is that Gojo is having "this is how you should behave around girls so you don't come across as a creep" colliding rather hard with the fact that he has no real way to process that yes, this girl is really into you in a lot of ways. This feels really honest to how boys his age can be.
Nice pitch.
Nice pitch.
one thing I do really appreciate about the way Gojo is written relative to a lot of other clueless romantic leads is just how much emotional intelligence he does have, beyond the "don't be a creep" boundaries he over-relies on
like, that's a lot of the show's best stuff right there
I... like those scenes but don't think it makes any sense at all. The character's background is that he didn't make any friends or socialize at all for like 11 years or so? So of course he's an empath genius with a talent for understanding body language and the meanings behind plain spoken words? I don't think that makes any sense, no. Those things are skills that one learns through practice, this character should honestly be pretty underdeveloped here, not a prodigy. Something like My Romantic Comedy is Wrong makes much more sense, as the character is over sensitive and paranoid, he's been paying extreme attention to social cues to the point where it has given him complexes and a pretty nasty attitude, but when he then is able to read people, it is a natural outcome of the character's traits.
