Don't fucking watch the Skeleton Knight in Isekai show.
It starts with a rape scene, and then does it again halfway through the episode.
I think the other one had the skeleton knight be a regular skeleton mob that was stuck in an Re:Zero time loop situation. I read the first chapter or two of that one, but haven't read the other one at all because I heard it was bad.
The good one is called Skeleton Soldier Couldn't Protect the Dungeon. I've read a chunk of it and it's fine and definitely doesn't have any of that in its opening chapters so I'm guessing this show is based off the bad one.
Is that not the one that got an anime? I'm so confused.
Looks like "Skeletal Knight In Another World" is the animoo that needs the content warning.
My memory is hazy so if there is any of that I might've forgotten it.
It's very much of the "this is a horribly evil but mundane thing to do, so I'll have my small-time bandit villains attempt it to show how irredeemable they are" school of thought.
(kind of like how JoJo has villains murder dogs in awful ways to demonstrate that they're pure evil)
doesn't stop it from being an unpleasant surprise for victims reading it, though!
I like the one that got a show more than than the one where the skeleton is stuck in a time loop, and it doesn't need a content warning. EDIT: I WAS WRONG. DEFINITELY NEEDS A CONTENT WARNING. THE FIRST SECONDS OF THE FIRST ANIME EP OPENS WITH NOT GOOD STUFF. I really didn't remember that from the manga. The manga seemed mostly chill and fun. But yeesh, I really don't need to see that stuff.
I thought that was a man that was crossdressing (the japansese okama deal)
I watched this Dawn Witch thing, I think it's supposed to be a sequel (or prequel) to that Familiar of Zero anime? I never watched it but they did name drop it somewhere in the episode. Pretty boring first episode, I guess something will happen next week.
Shield hero still has dumb-as-rocks secondary characters.
And then there is some show that looks like an idol show? Forgot the name, something about an unpopular girl and her secret task. Not into the idol stuff.
I don't know if there is much I'm looking forward to this season.
Mostly for comedic value, of course, because a walking pandemic is rarely funny.
Although I'm certain I'll drop a few once I get a few episodes in.
Speaking of...it's not often I dislike a show just because of the art, but holy shit RPG Real Estate is actively uncomfortable to look at. Something is just completely wrong with the way the characters are drawn, the heads and proportions and stuff are just bizarre and unpleasant. It got a few chuckles, but not nearly enough to make me consider watching a second episode.
tl;dr: Kongming (a.k.a. Zhuge Liang), the famous military strategist from the (Romance of the) Three Kingdoms, is isekai'd into the Tokyo idol scene.
I'll probably have to check it out, I kind of love reverse isekai.
Finally, their body count will increase a hundred-fold!
Kaguya-sama Season 3 Episode 1? Where?!
As in, where did you watch it? It's not showing up on crunchyroll's website in Canada...
I'd say so? time travel isekai are a classic subgenre, relying heavily on the whole "the past is a foreign country" thing and rife with the same metaknowledge stuff you get in "I reincarnated into my favorite game" isekai.
reverse isekai (and "medieval knight in modern new york" type stories) play with different tropes where it's everyone else who knows about them, but they're under the same general genre umbrella
Connecticut Yankee is pretty much the ur example of it, so if the past, why not the future? Same for things like Land of the Lost. Hell, you could make an argument for forcibly dumping someone who has never left Chicago into Korea. Maybe not a great one, but it's still completely foreign land and totally alien culture that the author is likely making up crazy-ass shit about anyway so may as well be fantasy.
I do think the Koumei thing is more 'reverse' isekai though. But it's also nakedly an idol show, so...
Time travel and reincarnation are not isekai
Better quality of OP via YouTube:
(There's already a "UHD 60FPS" upload of the OP there too and holy shit it always looks terrible when people do this.)
EDIT: Apparently the OP is a cover of a Hungarian club song that was all the rage in Japan recently.

It's dangerous to argue pedantics because according to the Japanese Wikipedia page, Dragonball, One Piece, and Hunter x Hunter are all representative examples of isekai.
And 'fantasy' (as a loanword) means specifically European fantasy.
Borrowed language is fun.
By which I mean annoying.
The sources are fine to use, provided they're backed up in some way to be credible, but something tells me it's not a credible source calling One Piece an isekai.
Like a lot of terms, there's the scholarly definition, the definition as originally coined, the specific definition that random people used, and god only knows what else, and the verious circles of this venn diagram may or may not have a whole lot of overlap. It's just the "is Zelda an RPG" argument,

It really felt like they didnt want to keep it going. There are a few weird bugs lot threads that didnt seem to go anywhere after the brief break they took
Maybe words dont need literal meanings!
Narf blargle warg nog!
(Claiming "different world" doesnt have to mean different world will always be silly to me and if an academic argued it I think they're being silly too.)
Its a type of portal fantasy, that's as old as the hills.
Hikaru no go does this.
You might as well stop using genres entirely. They cease to have relevance as explanatory power if they just mean whatever the hell you feel like.
Loved the movie, really hope they can capture some of it's artistry in this
I wouldn't be surprised, people get tired of working on the same thing eventually.
