CGI still costs money, its not some magic time saving wand.

So you can totally do shitty CGI all day long.

The problem now is I think in some cases cheap cgi is cheaper than cheap animation so now they're just using CGI instead and like, I would rather shitty animation, in every single case.

It might be economic and make sense, but I still hate it. I'm not evaluating their budgeting skills here.

86 is solid. The pacing is a lot better than I expect from mecha at this point.

I actually went back to some older shows with CGI, like Last Exile, and liked the CGI in them. I actually just basically think the animation quality of a lot of the stuff I'm seeing now is going down, or isn't properly matching the rest of the shows visuals (like its just badly juxtaposed, which even if the animation itself is good, that looks bad).

I know I know I'm going to get told "well actually its better than it ever was" like last time.

I'm sorry, this is not what I'm seeing. We will have to agree to disagree. I'm not saying literally every CGI I see right now is bad. But I'm seeing a lot more of it, and when its bad, it feels like its everywhere, because it literally is. The best CGI, however, nowadays, is basically unnoticeable. I basically realise after some time has passed watching it "Wait that was/is cgi" and I go "huh". I wish that happened a lot more.
For me it's a case of consistency (does the 3d clash with 2d) and animation quality. I'm pretty fond of CG shows that will use matching hand animations for more exaggerated expressions, poses or frames that just could not practically be done in 3d.

    Well deserved.
If you're unfamiliar, Scrub Quotes is a Twitter account that collects TERRIBLE defenses for losing, usually fighting games, but other stuff too, when earned. Be careful scrolling it though, as losers are often racists or other terrible stuff too.

Looking at it, that's a very impressive collection of maidenless behaviour. Like seriously, that's more sexists than a PUA training camp.

started watching Otherside Picnic and I'm definitely enjoying it, in sort of a Godzilla: SP-meets-STALKER way

I haven't read the manga/novels and I've heard it's not a perfect adaptation but, so far, for what it is I can live with it (unless the anime totally falls apart halfway through the court)

So I finished reading Dolly Kill Kill! last night.

Is it good? I don't think so. It's interesting, though. I certainly ended it with a higher opinion than I started it with. A few of the characters I ended up liking, though I never really liked the main character much.

It does end at what feels like what would be the beginning of the final arc. I'm assuming that they got canceled, because it's... Well, it's an ending, sure.

Anyway, would I recommend it? I dunno, it's kinda weird, it definitely is paced a bit oddly. The art is decent, at least. And it's got an interesting premise!

It wasn't ever going to be the Nightingales who stopped Marcille, and this chapter was just this fact getting established. They're just a bunch of thugs, and power is not how you're going to stop Marcille right now.

Ehhhhh they're right that the dungeon demon is manipulating everyone and none of the protagonists are aware of the machinations they're caught up in, the canaries just don't realize what a singularity of stupid blind luck and hyperspecific culiniary and monster biology knowledge Laius and co. represent and that that even has the potential to throw a wrench in the dungeon demon's plans. Everyone is acting pretty reasonably given the circumstances and information available.

Personally, I feel like the Canaries were just, real stupid in how the approached the whole thing from the beginning.

Or, rather than stupid, they were simply far too convinced of their own innate superiority. Like, if you're genuinely suprised and affronted that people don't just roll over and do what you tell them when you come in and tell them that you judge their friend has to die for reasons you don't care to explain, you just have to trust us because we know better than you... well, either you're an idiot or you're just not considering these people to be people.

And of course, if you know there's a demon nearby waiting to tempt desperate people into making bad decisions... perhaps making people desperate to survive as your opening gambit is not the smartest move in general?

Yeah, I know Laos and co would be the ones to stop her, but what then? Even assuming all the Canaries she just killed or got killed get revived, Marcille still committed numerous other taboos that are going to have to be looked the other way on for her not to spend the rest of her life in prison or executed, and even then she'll still live centuries longer than everyone she cares about. Plus if they do a "stop trying to undo the past" ending, Falin may have to stay dead.

At this point, Marcille's best chance at a happy ending is probably going to be being forgiven of her crimes and somehow getting her lifespan shortened instead of extending everyone else's.

Just reading 100 Girlfriends Who Really . . . love you, and I have to say, while I've seen references to Kaiji in other manga before, I think this is the first time I've actually seen just a straight up _appearance_ by the guy -- and not just him, the pachinko machine itself from the second arc is there.

And when there was the whole "sea otter / Golden Kamuy" section, I can't help wondering how many other references there are in there which I"m missing -- I guess most of the time they're called out directly, but I have to say, a:Golden Kamuy is not something I'd expected to see, and b:_that bit_ of Golden Kamuy? (I suppose if they were going to pick any bit, that's more thematically consistent with the rest of the 100 girlfriends storyline than, say, references to the russo-japanese war)

Cop craft is about an elf being a cop. It was a couple years ago but I still thought it was a pretty good show.

Weird portal to another world. Big war. Show takes part in a kind of melting pot city of various fantasy races and regular earth people. Starts off about dudes making a drug out of ground down fairies or some such.

The elf design probably gets a side eye but in general the story generally keeps to it's cops and bad guys motif. Except the cat episode. Which is... Quite an episode.

Unrelated but now that I'm caught up, "My food looks very cute." is an incredibly adorable manhua.
A wolf girl wakes up a vampire from her couple hundred year nap. The coffin has a note that says, 'if you wake me up you have to feed me for a year.' and the wolf girl is very much, 'It seems interesting.' when asked why she opened it anyway.

Cop craft had a naked vampire running around for a few episodes

Yeah but nudity isn't something I just default to as a bad thing. The vampire is naked but that's more a matter of circumstance and the vampire in question being a monster and not giving a damn. Kinda like I don't expect titans in AoT to put on some pants.

The cat episode had some good parts but it's also just really horny about some of the scenes and it stands out from the regular tone of the show.

That's not a bad comparison. Hayate the Combat Butler technically had a plot, but whenever things got anywhere close to advancing it, the next chapter was always a cutaway to gag characters that never interacted with the main cast about some insane and inane topic.

The flow of 100 GFs is typically:
    1) MC meets GF
    2) GF gets introduced to existing GFs
    3) New GF schtick applied all existing GFs
    Then several chapters of
    4) Random topic filtered through dynamic of all GFs
    5) Pair chapter with two GFs or MC and one GF

Then return to 1. It's genuinely funny and sweet, and lampoons the hell out of bad harem tropes.
