Anya not being a super competent/superhero like almost every important character in the series is definitely what makes Spy x Family work for me. She has a useful ability, but is just a kid who wants to play, to get attention, to have fun, etc.

Whoever said that it reminds them of Baccano! was spot on. I think it's the music/aesthetic.

My favorite thing is that Anya is shown to be a kid, even with her powers. She's not super smart, or acts older than she is. It really helps a lot of the humor of the show.

Though that doesn't stop her from claiming she's older than she is.

That still a typical kid trait though

My favorite moment so far is from the second episode
When they're at the tailor and the meetcute is about to fall apart* and Anya realizes she's about to miss her best chance at having a mommy.
"I'm so sad that my mother died a while ago leaving my father conveniently single"

*Because Yor is for some reason worried that a rando will be able to kill her in a fit of jealousy.

    This week's Dandadan is good.
    wBKdMbc.jpg

    It's very good
Kind of a surprise slice of life chapter. The beginning pages with the kids all waking up, Okarun helping Jiji around, actually evokes the nostalgia of middle school sleepovers really well.

And of course the stuff with Momo's friends dragging Okarun to the maid cafe to embarrass him and Momo is just golden.

    Everybody should read DANDADAN.

I've just been reading Frieren at the Funeral, and rarely have I agreed as much with a character as with this particular moment (chapter 35 spoiler, ie a long while ago):
    5xmvrh44mw3f.png

All caught up now, and I think that weirdly the thing it reminds me of the most is Laid-Back Camp; they go somewhere, they do a thing, sometimes new people show up, sometimes they leave, it's all pretty chill.

Sometimes demons show up, sometimes someone gets brutally murdered, sometimes an old man gotta fistfight some other mages, everything just chill.

Honestly that's part of why I like it so much. These people are unflappable.

And at the same time, she's still clever in a believable child way.

I feel like most child media characters are either miniature adults or bags of stupidity that only do irrational stuff and make life harder. But kids aren't stupid, they just don't have the context and practice for complex decisionmaking, nor the vocabulary to really reflect on complicated stuff.

Anya does this quite well. You can often see her train of thought and where she's coming from, it's practically never really absurd, it's just working off completely wrong assumptions because she genuinely does not know how things work.

Tonight we saw the Kill la Kill epilogue, one of my favorite examples of all time. Also some total nonsense on Yu-Gi-Oh! that confused and upset IKG.

And we watched a playlist I made of shows we are not watching for Season 5.

I will forever be confused and upset by Yu-Gi-Oh.

    It's fine.

Honestly, while i'm not going to claim it's ever high literature (let alone not packed with filler), some of the later Yu-Gi-Oh series - 5Ds (CARD GAMES ON MOTOR CYCLES) and Vrains can both be pretty damn fun. Even the not so great series have some pretty fun duels. If you've got crunchyroll and are happy to liberally use the skip button when you're getting bored, they're not the worst thing you could be watching.

Also at this point they've actually figured out how to represent the actual game, so you mostly get less blatant bullshit how does that even work.

...Protags still cheat, but it's cool, now everyone else does too

I mean...yeah good for them. They can be horny sometimes (but not really that often. Not as often as they would like if one artbook comment is anything to go by!).

I'm just saying they don't have anything anything to do with the issue of Code Geass' horniness. Which I agree is actually valid. It really, really clashes with the show's tone.

Yeah, since this studio also made, shudder, Cross Ange, I'm more inclined to throw Sunrise under the bus.

Still, I bet they asked CLAMP and they were like "oh sweet, go nuts".

With the Quintessential Quintuplets movie coming out next month in Japan, moviegoers will be able to get a special Volume 14.5 of the manga, which appears to be the final volume with an extra chapter added in. The bonus chapter will also run in Weekly Shonen Magazine that week.

Single extra chapter's probably not enough to pivot to the Bokuben strategy.

I doubt theyll get to Bond but I hope they do
It's a split-cour show, 25 episodes if I remember right. They'll definitely get to Bond.
From the preview it seems like they'll wrap up the first manga volume next episode - if they keep up that pace we should still meet Bond before the break.

In Japanese, it's not really a matter of opinion - it's silent. Fact. But we're talking about it in English, so I think pronouncing it is fine. (And the great thing about communicating through a text-based medium is that no-one has to care how you pronounce something. Spy Family, Spy Eks Family, Spy Cross Family, Spy Times Family, Spy Control-Alt-= Family, Spy multiplied by Family. Go nuts.)
