Any moment something in Lelouch's life goes right, a meteorite of karma desceneds, locates the bunker he's hiding in, robotechs in, stops in front of him, throws up a sign saying "You suck" and then hits him.
Every. Time.
@Reynolds The fact that "Dwonk" has been right fucking there since the first episode giving away one of the best fucking twists in a tv show is one of my favoruite bits of foreshadowing and aggressive trolling on the creator's part

For more context, I was thinking about how early in the season of Akibaranger, it was mentioned how Japan had Power Rangers shows ported back to Japan with the American plots dubbed back over with their original Sentai actors. Power Rangers SPD was currently airing over there.
I was curious about how Japan may have reacted to Power Rangers RPM (a post-apocalypstic deconstruction) being adapted from Go-Onger (a comical series that was basically Lazy Town with more punching).
I tried googling for any reactions, but it appears Japan had stopped redubbing Power Ranger series by the time RPM came out so it's hard to find reactions.
I did, however, find this image which sort of captures the tonal shift in a "if you know, you know" way:
I had meant the "if you know, you know" comment to refer to (Power Rangers RPM spoilers):
Reynolds responded to my post with "Good ol' Hatte Saburo."
Galaxy brain: if Anya used oira
But that's okay, because we learn Professor Tomoe's favorite sport!
That's some hella weird word choices for someone who has generally been shown to at least be able to fake being normal.
Please, he's a highest-crust aristocrat talking to a fellow aristocrat of the same level. Puppy-kicking is too pedestrian for them to even register on their evilometer.
I'm curious about the pacing for the rest of the show. Not sure where they end anymore.
If there is ever a Gundam live action film these guys should have cameos.

But also since you’re it’s a video game you can’t be playing a character so you have Char just cursing up the gundam pilot.

Everything is light novel adaptations now. Or if not that, trying to be like them.
So all the 'plot' and the only development for characters is in the first 3-4 episodes, or in this case because pacing is shit, 5. After that, we have our harem established. The cheat powers are already explained. We have our status quo. The novel is either picked up and will now go on forever without anything changing ever again, or will die ignomiously.
Stuff like this makes me think about the structure of something like Tenchi Universe, which I adore:
-- Six episodes dedicated to introducing characters (almost one per episode)
-- Six episodes dedicated to establishing character relationships/dynamics
-- Three episodes dedicated to a mini-arc, exploring character relationships/dynamics
-- Twelve episodes dedicated to a full arc, built off the groundwork of the previous fifteen episodes
-- A single episode which acts as an epilogue for the series
I desperately want more TV shows that follow this sort of structure.
yeah tenchi really nailed that format, a lot of the later imitator harem-romcom-adventure shows struggle with the structure beyond the initial introduce the partners episodes
Oh, cool! That related to Buffy the Vampire Slayer?!?!
Yeah! It's its mom!
You're telling me Slayers has a Xander in it?
You lay this dead mouse upon my door?!?
Dumb, comic relief, thinks he's the main character, awkward shipping with him and the actual main character. That's a Gourry alright.
Unrelated, but Gourry's VA also plays Brock and James from Pokemon, and some guy named...Seto Kaiba?
frankly the whole cast is but anime localization back in the 90s was a small world
