Eh, with this specific moment in history I could see them working out better? It'd mean no reign of terror or Napoleon. And Louis was willingly transitioning from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy with an elected legislature, so I'd expect it to be better going forward.

Ah yes, a constitutional monarchy, the instrument par excellence for establishing and maintaining an unjust peace. Yay.

Glibness aside, by the time Marie Antoinette was brought to the guillotine as depicted in the beginning of the manga, (16 October 1793) the Reign of Terror had been well underway. And Louis XVI didn't willingly transition to a more democratic monarchy, you silly goose, he was forced to, kicking and screaming.

(The original intent of the majority of the French National Assembly actually was a constitutional monarchy, but the King played hardball, starting by locking them out of their meeting room and stationing troops right outside Paris, and concluded, months later, with him refusing to sign the constitution until forced to at gunpoint by 7000 armed women who marched to Versailles from Paris, backed by 15000 National Guardsmen (and a dispirited Lafayette who was only nominally in command). This attitude turned the Assembly against him and towards republicanism.)

As for your whining about the Terror and Napoleon, the Terror banned slavery in France and her colonies, and Napoleon spread the French revolutionary Criminal Code everywhere he conquered, and you know at least one good thing it's recognized for doing? That's right: decriminalizing homosexual relations.

On a culture note it would also mean that Joseph Bologne might have remained Marie's music teacher. If people don't know who that is, I recommend looking him up with Google image search turned on. You may be surprised.

Ah yes, the prodigious musician, composer, fencer and cavalier, who was so moved by the Revolution's declaration of equal rights to all French people regardless of color that he volunteered for the Republican Army the moment it started recruiting. Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, colonel in charge of the Free Legion of the Americans of the South. And you consider a timeline where he is denied legal equality and remains as the Queen's music teacher without speaking ill of it? For shame.

Good things can happen in bad times, and vice versa.

This also happens with people. They can be absolute monsters and then turn around and do good things, in defiance of the easy narrative. And vice versa.

In my country Napoleon is well remembered because living under his reign was far, far less shit than living under the Austro-Hungarian Empire that he took over. What's that, we're allowed to use our own language with legal proceedings (including defending yourself in court) instead of needing to speak German? And we're allowed to appoint our own people to positions of power, they don't all have to be foreigners appointed to rule over us? Napoleon, you spoil us!

Legal equality? I don't think you actually know the history of Joseph Bologne if you think he received anything even close to "legal equality" at any point in his life. The closest he got was being music teacher to Marie, to royalty, despite Mozart's backstabbing and thievery of his work.

SSS Suicide Hunter just doesn't stop bringing the good stuff and proving that even if a protagonist is "overpowered" they can still lead a damn good story by focusing on how they use that power. Or sometimes more importantly, how they don't.

I watched the first episode of the "My Girlfriend is a Top" (not the real title but the one that's in the middle of that youtube video preview frame) and it was not grabbing me, seemed like a very basic romantic slice of life with the twist being the girlfriend is occasionally slightly assertive and makes that face and the boyfriend thinks that's hot. What a revolution in gender roles.

e: "Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie" is the english title

Yeah I tried a couple episodes of Shikimori, the amusing part definitely wasn't the romance between the leads, but the sheer magnitude of accidents she has to save him from.

I ended up checking out the manga instead of the anime, which seemed like a similar situation to me, but I'm a bit more positive on it. It's certainly nothing new, like you said, but it's competently done and if you're basic as shit like me it might be worth a look.

I will say, I think it does a pretty solid job of making a character's gimmick feel like it's actually coming from their character rather than it just being time for that part of the story.

Til that the one Gintama press conference scene was an open mockery of a politicians apology after getting his hand caught in the cookie jar . I always thought it was funny but kinda just assumed it was the usual nonsense and not based on anything. I miss Gintama I should rewatch it but it’s just so long.

    Ok.
The skeleton soldier isekai isnt that bad. Like the attempted rape is definitely a crutch the writer needs to get away from immediately but for the most part its a dumb strong guy helping out a competent sword lady

Sorry to say but the writer is not even close to done using attempted rape, actual rape, or general bad things happening to women as plot devices.

The issue is that, as that video just posted points out, last season there was My Dress Up-Darling and this season has Kaguya S3. So is a very bad time to be a just mediocre romantic comedy, when strictly better shows are around.

EDIT: The best comparison is Horizon: Zero Dawn having to compete with Elden Ring, only worse because at least Horizon has robot dinosaurs and is very focused on them.

Ki was a thing, but it was mostly limited to stronger hits, faster speed, and more durable bodies so it fit the theme. Still martial arts focused, just Better martial arts. Once it starts going Cultivation that's when it spirals out of control FAST.
