Frankly the problem is anime dads.

Has there ever been a Good Anime Biological Dad- Wait, Papa Elric from FMA:B. Maybe some of the dads from the Ghibli films (I'm thinking at least Tatsuo from My Neighbor Totoro)?

ETA: I forgot: Papa Shirogane from Love is War, maybe Ichigo's dad from Bleach?

Look, I don't watch that much anime/read that much manga.

Pretty good to great anime bio dads:
Maes Hughes (both FMA versions), Nagisa's Dad from Clannad, Light's Dad (very arguable) in Death Note, Naruto's Dad, and Konata's Dad from Lucky Star (arguable) come to mind.

Shout outs to the only stay at home dad in anime existence:

Isshin has a small clinic. And he gets a lot less points for:
Letting Ichigo walk into the crazy shit without telling him anything, despite knowing fully well what Ichigo is doing, since he, Urahara, Shinji and Yoruichi always planned to put Ichigo in front of Aizen.

So far in the manga, her core character traits do not particularly change, no
Loid also has not caught on at all so far, so if those elements irritate you it probably won't get better

    Hrmmmmm.
The first 3 episodes of Spy x Family got released to free users a week later like crunchyroll has always done, but the 4th episode appears to be scheduled to be available for free users "never."
Has funimation now ruined the site unless you pay? I noticed some other series are just straight up premium-only as well.

Is a more traditional style comedic manga where the actual plot moves at a snail pace. I don't think that's a big deal, but whatever. And this is a 26 episodes first season, so far they are just setting the baseline characters on the board.

This was something they announced a little while back,

    https://www.theverge.com/2022/3/27/22998591/crunchyroll-ends-free-ad-supported-streaming-new-releases-simulcasts-anime
But now, Crunchyroll is barring free users from watching delayed simulcasts altogether. The service’s policy is set to go into effect this spring, as Crunchyroll plans to give users access to a “seasonal sampler,” or a selection of simulcasts set to debut during the spring 2022 season, including Spy x Family, A Couple of Cuckoos, Tomodachi Game, and others. Crunchyroll will offer the first three episodes of each show in the sampler for free one week after their premiere until May 31st. Any viewing beyond the first few episodes or access to Crunchyroll’s entire simulcast lineup will require a subscription. Crunchyroll says all users can still watch episodes previously added to the platform for free.

He was gonna die, so it was kind of like... hiring a really overpowered babysitter for Naruto. By the standards of shonen parents, he's incredibly benevolent, since he doesn't come back to one of the final bosses for Naruto to have to beat in Mortal Kombat (and ya know... actually loved him). Ichigo's Dad is sort of a slide rule Nazi, Yusuke's is basically a king of Hell, despite being human, Gon's dad is worse than either of those guys, etc etc.

Part of the joke in SxF is that the only person in this family who has even a slight acquaintance with what "normal" is anymore is the literal superpowered child. Neither Lloyd nor Yor catch on to each other because they're just so used to living in a world where people just can DO all that shit.

Everyone (except for Anya, of course) being super blind about the secret identities of everyone else is thematically important!

Like, Loid is Mr. Super Spy, but the thing is when he goes home to his new family he, even if unintentionally, turns that shit off. He trusts his daughter and he trusts his wife and he doesn't examine why his wife is so physically capable or why Anya always seems to know too much. And it's the same with Yor - cold-blooded murder machine at work, great big ol' softie at home. There is no suspicion or distrust within their family - it's why they're so gosh-darned wholesome.

Even for Anya it's that she goes from thinking Spy and assassin parents are cool... To just loving her family because they're her family.

I think it's clear that Yor, somehow despite being an assassin, has not had a ton social interactions outside of her twin "jobs." So she isn't sure what's 'normal' and is pretty willing to go along with weird things because, well, she is more focused on trying to not let on that she's an assassin. "Oh you're preparing three changes of clothes sure that's normal uh no don't open that drawer that's where I keep my blad-um, unmentionables."

Loid probably should figure it out... but it's funny. /animeonly

I'm finally caught up with Spy x Family, both magna and anime. Series is good! Can't remember why I stopped reading, think I just randomly fell off it for some reason

    manga spoilers
The cruise ship arc is great, good character moments for Yor and fun to see her secret life take the spotlight for once.

I guess it's technically possible they reach this far in the anime, but they'd probably have to rush some stuff in 24/25 episodes. The shot of Loid carrying sleepy Yor and Anya back to their room would be one hell of a season finale though.

kind of a similar premise, more comedy, and they haven't gotten anywhere close to a storyline where they literally do the plot of Mr. and Mrs. Smith by finding out each other's secrets because they both get a mission to neutralize each other, the manga feels like it's got years and years to milk the comedy of them not knowing before it ever reaches such a point. If such a story ever happens it will probably be because the manga is ending serialization.

Ah ok. That's about what I was expecting, since yeah them finding the truth about each other means the shenanigans revolving around keeping them both in the dark get lost. Anya herself is probably the best enforcer of this plot mechanic, what with the mind reading.
