Vinland Saga season 2! Animated by... Mappa?

    https://youtu.be/oL0tEVZACiU

    January!

I was hoping that Studio WIT was going to be working on Season 2 as well, but MAPPA does good work.

Her hair being half white is a lot more "hmmm thats symbolic" post Wano

Can you put in spoilers why? The reason sailed over my head.

Separate from that: have the one piece movies been getting Western theater releases like MHA, JJK, and Demon Slayer?

I've been reading Shadows House and I'm really enjoying it. It has some strong Promise Neverland vibes but without the things that aggravated me about it.

aha! I think I'm just not spending enough time trying to disentangle which line is which / searching the backgrounds for people -- that definitely makes sense now that you point it out, but I thought that
the red arrow was the knife because it's the one at the end of where Guts's arm winds up
    uv6t4cdd9qnv.png
and you're right, I didn't see eye-pincers-guy there at all, I just wasn't looking carefully enough.

Can you help me understand what I missed visually at the start of the chapter?
First, egg guy is hanging down from the ceiling; he sends one tentacle down towards Mozgus. Mozgus's eyes go all funny.
    x36hl7iey361.png

Then, everyone else is surprised by something, now the tentacle is trying to grab Mozgus's hand, or the bible, or something. Egg guy's tentacles whizz around a bit and he's moving back up towards the hole in the ceiling again, because he's definitely higher in this panel than the previous one.

    73azdikh7tqx.png

At this point, we can't see Mozgus any more, so the first time through I thought that egg guy had grabbed Mozgus and was taking him away, so was confused a few pages later when we find Mozgus is just fine and can also now create fire blasts to get through the door (I think?)

What actually happened, according to a summary, is that the tentacles were stabbing Mozgus and everyone else, and (I guess?) that's how they get the turn-into-angels power? Now that I look really carefully, there's a little 'prick' sound effect next to where he's saying '--LEN' at the bottom of the first page, and his mouth is foaming at the top of the second one, so I guess those are the visual cues for what's happening to Mozgus; maybe 'hyn' is the sound effect for 'tentacle stabbing someone' and that's what I didn't understand?

And I think I may have been wrong about it being a blast of fire coming from Mozgus through the door and down the stairs; now that I pay more close attention to which amorphous blob of spirits is which at the end of book 19, I think one or other of the two blobs we see here is the one with Casca in it, but I still can't work out if that one is the one that was attacking Mozgus et al on the first page (which then turned around?) or the one that was coming up the stairs from behind Isidro, or if they both hit one another. I think it's the one coming from downstairs which then shoots forwards to break the door, and then I guess destroys the blob that was menacing Mozgus at the start, and Casca falls out of it into Mozgus's arms, but I have had to spend a fair number of minutes flicking back and forth through pages to try and disentangle this much, and this is important bits of plot that I'm not understanding rather than just "who was where when they got stabbed".

The first time I read that page (the double-page spread six pages after the title) I actually thought it was Isidro saying 'close your eyes!' and then making an explosion with one of the tiny hand-grenade things we've seen Guts use, because he has a small thing in his hand and then there's an explosion, but that is probably just Isidro trying to find something to throw the way he's been throwing rocks before, and while the 'close your eyes!' speech bubble doesn't have an obvious owner it's most likely Jerome.
I can't really see egg guy stabbing anyone but Mozgus, but the panel where they look up at the ceiling features fuzzy lines of the tentacles whipping around through the room, and egg guy has transformed things by stabbing them before this scene.

The blob-stuff is seeping through the stones everywhere, so I dunno. Mozgus initially retreats upward until he decided to fight back. Until the blob-stuff is destroyed when Mozgus comes back down the stairs, the only indication of Casca's location is Puck saying it went upstairs. Mozgus is getting a lot of exercise, in any case.

    berserk, tower of conviction
yeah, the thing about mozgus is that he's terrible, don't get me wrong, but he's not really apostle material. His and his disciples' transformation isn't something they were saving for a big fight, it's a change forced upon them by an actual apostle right there and now

he just thinks it's a reward for his faith, so he takes it in (relative) stride

This was definitely the turning point for me - but I wasn't having a bad time before it. I'm super glad I read the VN (with the mods for voice acting and a better layout) but from what I understand the manga adaptation is extremely well done. It may be a better way of experiencing the story if @Reynolds is having a hard time with the pacing!

Alternatively... it may not be for you, and that's OK!

Ryukishi07 is terrible at pacing. Umineko is a bit better, but not by much.

But boy, does shit ever get real in Umineko.

The clip of exactly what set me off is actually on YouTube, so I can just link it to complain some more. Spoilers through episode 8 of Higurashi, original.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlfZAvbS-Cg

Character just hanging out in the hospital (I can assure you there are several cops standing a few feet away), and then a ghost just teleports in to jumpscare kill him to end the episode, like you got a bad end in a streamer bait game.

Also note the green haired ghost girl grabs his wrist with her right hand, holds the nail with her left hand, then swings the hammer with her other right hand. Real quality.

That's episode 2 of the visual novel, to compare. Yeesh, that studio deen animation. The VN does it so much better.

Here's a good taste of its style, though I still prefer the original art:

I will admit that the music is pretty good, the OP is memorable. I don't mind the art style and designs, but the Quality is off the charts. Characters frequently have chibi-style triangle limbs, and I've seen mitten hands several times as well. There's also a 2000s CGI water wheel with an atrociously stuttering framerate.

I decided to skim through episodes to see if anything ever actually gets resolved on this show, and it has the gall to start explaining how mystery novels work. Specifically that the intro is the most important part. The setup portion of this show is sixteen episodes long.

The show gets resolved, yes. You start getting SOME answers in the third arc, many more in the fourth arc, and then a never ending answers cascade through the second season.

    BIG Higurashi spoilers
People in this area have caught a brain disease that is simultaneously being suppressed by local flora/fauna. When it activates, you become paranoid and eventually violent/self harming. So a lot of the violence is people reaching insane conclusions and then hurting themselves or others. However, there are also hostile actors taking violent actions in the area, so not every conspiracy is imagined. Untangling the real villains from disease induced hallucinations is the main struggle of the narrative.

Goddamn SSS Suicide Hunter is good stuff. I was not expecting this route and I'm all in for it. Excellent characterization going on.
If she cannot use her body then she will use her words for the duel. And if that's the case, the protagonist is absolutely not good enough to provide her a worthy final duel, even with his rewind ability. So how to provide the grand finale, the last duel that can satisfy the heart and soul of the undisputed Strongest in the Martial Realm? It's simple, you provide her a worthy opponent.

An opponent like the Sword Emperor, the undisputed Strongest in the Martial Realm of his world.
