The Trigun manga, anime, Maximum manga thing kind of reminds me of FMA in a weird way honestly

Like the anime end stuff is basically fine, but I think what they managed with Maximum is way better and I'm really looking forward to them giving anime another shot with that

Yeah the Trigun anime is still great but the manga also goes into a much bigger and more ambitious direction.

If a new Trigun anime is accurate, then whoever dubs it has got to get Johnny Yong Bosch back. It's the role that got him started in voice acting.

So am I really the only one watching Summer Time Render because it's locked in Disney+ Japanese only jail?

Cause it's really been quite good in a Stranger Things kind of plucky teenagers in a horror show way, and every time I check over to the manga, it's like "Oh, here's another place the anime decided not to show full frontal nudity of a 14 year old. Thank you, adaptation!" They've been really sparing with the time loop stuff too which has helped not to cheapen it.

Describing Oshi no Ko beyond saying it's about the idol industry involves major spoilers.

Basically, the first episode is going to be crazy.
And then crazy again several episodes later when it goes "End of Prologue."

Basically the elevator pitch is that two idol fans (an adult doctor and his sickly teenage girl patient) die and are reincarnated as the twin babies of their favorite idol, who got pregnant in secret. They have their memories and as they grow up they end up entering showbiz and the idol scene themselves, so it mostly focuses on them navigating though those industries.

    Bit more spoilery plot point
Their mother is killed by a creepy stalker (who also killed the doctor), and there's a revenge mystery plotline as the son tries to track down the mysterious father who he believes enabled the stalker by going through all the mother's previous showbiz connections.

I'm fuzzy on the details because it's been awhile, but IIRC, the Trigun manga had actually been cancelled before it ended, and came back as Trigun Maximum about a year later

The anime doesn't use any of the stuff from Maximum, I'm not totally sure why but I think there's a weird publishing situation with the two series

Much like how the first Fullmetal Alchemist anime had to make up some of the Homunculus because they hadn't been introduced in the manga yet, the Trigun anime had to make up some of the last few Gung Ho Guns.

(I got bottom of the page'd, but I think I spent a bit too much this post for that, so I'll be dumb and repost:)

【OSHI NO KO】 got an anime announcement earlier today, and people asked about it:

    From the mangaplus website:
"In the world of showbiz, lies are weapons." Goro works as an OB-GYN in the countryside, a life far removed from the entertainment industry. Meanwhile, his favorite idol, Ai Hoshino, has begun her climb to stardom. The two meet in the "worst possible way," setting the gears of fate in motion! The amazing Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari team up to depict the world of showbiz from a completely new perspective in this shocking series!

The manga is written by Aka Akasaka (author of Kaguya-sama: Love is War) and drawn my Mengo Yokoyari (best known for Scum's Wish), and gives a pretty neat take on Japan's entertainment industry. While idols! is the initial hook, it quickly expands beyond that, covering stuff like Live Action manga adaptations and Reality TV. Trends darker than Kaguya-sama usually does, and there's a lot less ROM and COM, but Akasaka's style is still very recognisable.

Only recently received an official English release, and the first six chapters are available for free on Manga Plus. (Still waiting for a physical release announcement.) The fan translations are better, but you can find those yourself if you're so inclined.

It's quite a ride from the very first chapter, so for those who'd like to go in completely blind I'ma hide even this vague outline behind spoiler tags (Like, big spoilers for the first two-three chapters or so, but pretty vague after):
Ai Hoshino, sixteen, is an idol. And pregnant with twins. Dr. Goro is one of her biggest fans, and has a bit of a crisis of faith upon finding out. Ai intends to keep the pregnancy secret, and the doctor resolves to help deliver her babies. Several months later, the babies are due, and he promptly gets stabbed to death by a stalker.
Dr. Goro is reincarnated as one of Ai's twins, "Aqua", and retains his memories. His twin sister Ruby is a reincarnated fan as well, and former young patient of Dr. Goro. They keep this to themselves. Shenanigans ensue as Ai tries to navigates single motherhood and her rising stardom.

There's a timeskip after about 10 chapters (~4 episodes?), when the focus shifts to the twins about ready to enter High School, and their steps into the entertainment industry. Aqua's got a mystery to solve, and it requires connections. He would rather work behind the stage, but can't seem to help but be dragged into the limelight, while Ruby wants to follow her mother's footsteps and become an idol herself.

So anyway, anime adaptation was announced earlier today.

Official website: https://ichigoproduction.com/ (Japanese, and not very machine translation friendly.)

    Animation Studio: Doga Kobo
Director: Daisuke Hiramaki (SELECTION PROJECT; WATATEN!; Asteroid in Love)
Assistant Director: Saori Tachibana (aka Chao Nekotomi)
    Series composition: Jin Tanaka
Character Design: Kanna Hirayama (Rent-A-Girlfriend; SELECTION PROJECT)

I don't know any of these names. (I've heard of Rent-A-Girlfriend, I suppose.) Also some comments from the manga authors:

    Akasaka Aka (Story):
I have been participating in the meetings, and I hope that I can do something that will surprise you all. I think the anime is going to be a stellar piece of work, so please look forward to it!
    Mengo Yokoyari (Art):
The animation staff has been very respectful of the original work, so I think not only those who loved the original manga, but also those who only watched the anime will be satisified by it. It's got idols, entertainment, singing and dancing, so you can expect to see a lot of those!

The magazine Trigun ran in was cancelled and it came back in a new one, and the anime premiered about a year after Maximum, and I believe they share some stuff before splitting into different directions. Books aren't in front of me

Interesting note that near it's climax Maximum ended up using something from the anime practically a decade later

Yeah, I was 100% not expecting that particular event to happen and it hit pretty hard when it did

I really like these sorts of story that cover a real thing that I know exists through seeing references to it in other manga, but don't know the details of how it actually works / the cultural context / etc. Same thing with Bartender -- I'd seen that bars were generally that particular shape and layout but the details of how they work, who goes there and why and when, that was all neat to find out. (or Eizouken for making anime, or Barakamon for calligraphy, or Bakuman for getting your manga published, or Silver Spoon for farming, or Laid-Back Camp for camping, or Skull-Face Bookseller Honda-San for working in a bookshop, etc. (Huh, I guess I do really like this sort of thing). (Drops Of God, for what it's worth, is more about describing wine than making it)

What else is out there that's "educational" like this? Sport/game manga sometimes goes into details but also tends to assume you already know what the rules are so it can concentrate on character development / teamwork / etc; Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games is the one with the most "let me teach you the details of what's going on" info in there that I can think of.

In particular, is there a manga out there that covers ramen shops? People are always going to them, but I feel like there's probably more to it than meets the eye. Or school festivals -- which I've seen a bazillion times in various 'the school festival' arcs, but I have no idea if this is actually what happens in real life.

The "is it a spoiler" question should probably not include things used in official promos explicitly to advertise it.

Sure, you in Connecticut or wherever, relying on second or third hand sources may not be aware of it, but why on earth should Anime News Network's half-assed stenography on a blurb be the final arbiter? That's just them being shitty. Nobody thinks "That Xenoblade Chronicles 3 promo is a spoiler until it's posted on IGN," or "I heard they were making a new Thor, therefore all advertisements from here out are spoilers."

Beej of LoadingReadyRun has anime/manga tastes that mostly align with yours: he likes the stories that dig deep into a RL activity or hobby and presents that to its audience.

Here's some (all?) of the Anime Roundups he did by himself (or sometimes with his wife Heather) : Beej's Anime Roundup, and here's some (all?) of the Anime Roundups he did with his fellow anime-watching friends: AnoAni, or "We Still Don't Know the Name of that Anime We Saw on that Day" and LRRCast's Anime Recap.

(They discuss seasonal anime and what they're looking forward to, which is why the episodes are so long.)

Ah, hadn't seen that one yet, for some reason. Yeah, that trailer seems like a good benchmark for what counts as a spoiler. Like, that's all prologue stuff, and doesn't cover the twist at the end of it.

The thing is that all these remakes are virtually never 'new takes,' but declarations that the old versions weren't good adaptations and THIS TIME, they'll adapt it much more faithfully to the source. Outlaw Star only ever had like 20 chapters to begin with.
