if i learned anything from playing dynasty warriors it’s that “It’s Lu Bu!!” inevitably heralds a bad time. also don’t make your boats so flammable? river pirates are… cool as hell?

The bigger issue is chaining your entire fleet together because everybody was shitting themselves from the plague and having literally never been on a ship before.

For anyone that's still on the fence, this is a pretty good summary of why Birdie Wing is so great. It does have a few spoilers.

Also, the blurred out moment that got him jumping off his couch and screaming in disbelief got just about the same reaction out of me.

Aww. Seems like Birdie Wing is going to end up with 13 episodes. I was really hoping it could be a 2 cour show.

The latest Spy X Family had me whooping in laughter.
I think the scene starting with the director jogging really sets your expectations in the completely wrong way. Perfect bait for the Dodgeball insanity to come.
    Such a good show.

I know some references passed me because I either missed them or it's from a show I haven't seen. I did see the DBZ reference of fucking Namek I do believe. Also want to say they referenced HunterXHunter.

Also, looks like we'll see bond for episode 12 and if that is the season finale, that is a great spot to stop. Can't remember if it's going for 12 or 24 episodes though.
Spy × Family is a split cour show, with 13 episodes on the back half. 25 total.

Speaking of Yu Yu Hakusho, I've taken that up as my anime-over-lunch series, and just after the fight with Suzaku, I appreciate that the conversation between Keiko and Yusuke amounts to basically, "I don't mind if you have to get up to supernatural bullshit, just... tell me before running off, okay?" I feel like most series would turn that into a forever-recurring source of fake drama where oh no I'm constantly having to deceive my girlfriend about my secret double life, how long can I keep this up and here it's just like... yeah, Yusuke's going to have to go fight a guy sometimes. Keiko knows. She just wants to be kept in the loop.

Are there any other series out there where the kid hero's secret powers are actually known to their parents / mundane friends and just kind of accepted?

Oh, they walked this back in the very next episode. This is why I don't usually register opinions until I know the totality of a thing. :|

So I've been reading the Kino's Journey manga and something strange happens every volume. The back of the book and the color pages quote what seems to be the original Kino light novels, a story from one of them. Then a similar on its face story happens in the manga, but with extremely different events. Any Kino superfans around that can explain this? Did the manga use the light novel as sort of a writing prompt and then do completely different versions of the stories? Is Kino a franchise where each new version does its own thing and none are very similar? This is my first look at the franchise, so I'm just left confused.

Spy x Family episode 10 is the best episode of the show so far and is, as far as I'm concerned, an improvement on one of the funniest chapters in the comic

I love that show, both seasons. One of my favs. And I think what I like about it, is that it's popcorn philosophy. It's fast talking cool nonsense. But it's fun! To me at least. The style is the substance sometimes and it oozes style.

I went ahead and finished the first season of Higurashi. I wouldn't recommend it. There's a handful of good ideas, moments and episodes, padded out over 13 hours while also cutting a ton of important info. Just the worst of all worlds here, really.

I'm not sure what it would take to interest me in watching any more of this. I'll probably just read the wiki.

I have at last army-crawled across the finish line of Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex season 1. I have to say, overall, it left me kinda cold. I didn't find the Laughing Man plot particularly interesting. The stand alone (ugh) episodes often managed to be pretty fun little stories but too often fell into the trap of asking an interesting question or posing a mystery and then just going "much to think about! Moving on,"

And like I like that sort of thing from time to time but you can't do it for every other episode

Anyway, I wanted to finish it so that I could watch s2 and listen to the Great Gundam Project folks plus Austin Walker talk about it as their backup show but I'm really not sure I'm interested in another season

I genuinely think the second season is better than the first, has some of its own issues but

    a) the politics and philosophy at least feel a lot more grounded since it's actually dealing with stuff that matters to reality

    b) the Major's outfit is the best in pretty much any GitS series, and she gets real pants

    c) I think the side episodes tend to feed into the main story much more cleanly

Late to the party on this, but Jujutsu Kaisen is good. I didn't expect it to be as funny as it was. I hadn't heard about that before watching it, and I can't imagine how that was. Did it really just go unremarked on by most people, or did I just scroll past all the posts that said it?

Most of the the time when people talk about JJK being funny they just post "nice pitch!" or something, which really doesn't really do much without context.

I just recently watched all of JJK while in quarantine thanks to a positive Covid test. I'm now very sad I didn't make it to theaters to see the movie, and am eagerly awaiting it's release on streaming/digital/whatever.

Oh, agreed, JJK is one of the funniest anime I've ever seen, not just for a shonen! It stands alongside several dedicated comedies in terms of how funny it is. Gonna take the excuse to post a few moments that I think about all the time:

Speaking of Jujutsu Kaisen, I found an amazingly well done fan video made only from manga frames, hyping up arc that will be shown in season 2, but warning: it has heavy spoilers so do not watch it unless you are not manga readers that already read this arc:

Also the $Texas they spent on animation for a lot of the fights really paid off. Lots of like, non-stop action that really makes it feel like they're trying their hardest to kill eachother, rather than the turn-based feeling some anime fights can have.
