We watched 8 episodes of BGC. I'm not sure how narrowly you define shojo, but we've watched like 4-5 shows that I think qualify. And have 3-4 scheduled for next season.

We watched Bubblegum Crisis already. Season 5 will contain a few classic OVAs though.

All eight parts, or just Tinsel City? Because Red Eyes is the best part.

AD Police was also pretty good but way too exploitative.

Which reminds me, Dominion Tank Police doesn't fit the bill because there's only one female protagonist but Hyper Police does and it's a Shadow Run setting

Oh yeah I could accept seeing them at anime cons, but my brain started to invert once I was subjected to the containment breach of seeing a guy wearing a matching ahegao tracksuit with both hoodie and pants on a major street mid-town here

I don't know how to find it but if you want shoujo anime I'll recommend Aim For The Ace, a story about a girl who goes to a hoity-toity academy, joins the tennis club, and subsequently no other function of the school is ever mentioned. Everyone is just absolutely 100% committed to the mean-girl politics of the tennis club and either defending or defeating the reigning queen of the court and her incomprehensibly long hair.

Also from what I hear Kill La Kill's Mako Mankanshoku is a whole-character reference to the main character's best friend.

I mentioned to a good friend from work that I wanted to start getting into the Berserk manga, and she gifted me the first volume of the Dark Horse published Deluxe Edition. Guess I get to buy a sturdy new bookshelf to house all of these once I get and read them all.

Berserk is one of those manga that really does just read so well on paper. Akira is another that I couldn't imagine reading digitally

Aim for the Ace is secretly one of the biggest influences on Anno, along with Ultraman and Ideon

Gunbuster is pretty heavily based on it (hence the Japanese title Aim For The Top!)

Edit: I say secretly because a lot of formative anime and toku in japan just never made it over here n a timely manner

Been watching a lot more stuff ever since I found that MB guy(having someone give you a quick visual rundown of a show saves so much time with me deciding if I want to be bothered).

RN I'm watching O Maidens In Your Savage Season which I'm enjoying outside of some questionable plot threads I will chalk up to anime.

After I'm done with this I figure I'll finally get into Spy x Family to see what the hype is about then catch up on Love is War, Haikyuu and Food Wars.

Berserk is one of the ones where I have a near-complete series of. I stopped buying it a couple of years ago waiting for it to get some issues out again before I resumed buying.

I do have complete series of Trigun/Trigun Maximum (including Multiple Bullets), Hellsing, Death Note, 20th Century Boys, Excel Saga and FLCL.

From ongoing, I'm buying Ancient Magus Bride, Spy x Family and I guess Drifters whenever it comes out.

    Tonight on Animenagerie:
    • We finished Jojo Part 3. Cool stuff.
    • We finished the Krillin vs. Jackie Chun and Goku vs. Nam in Dragon Ball. Both fights ignored the rules or else the finals would have been Krillin vs. Nam.
    • We watched half an episode of Popteam Epic. Hellshake Yano!
    • We tried to watch the Transformers episode of Panty & Stocking, but the plug was pulled as soon as they started their transformation sequence. They didn't even get to the part where they take off their panties.
    • So we filled the time by watching the first episode of Birdie Wing even though it's sub-only. Golf Crimes.

The last two weeks of AniMenagerie have been very informative in showing @ "IronKnuckle's Ghost" & I what anime we absolutely hate.

    Just fucking despise.

I'm 95% sure Panty and Stocking was an anime company attempting to explicitly make a show to be picked up by Adult Swim (and then, amusingly, it didn't).

    I never watched it.

I think the Gainax people behind PS&G just wanted to stretch their artistic limbs. Apparently there was a schism afterwards and those people left to form studio Trigger?

The creator of Panty & Stocking and the co-founder of Studio Trigger, Hiroyuki Imaishi, has stated multiple times that one of the things he wants to do the most is be able to make a continuation of the show. He even made an unofficial continuation doujinshi (called "Cemetery Hills") that had Nova's uncertain fate at the end of Space Patrol Luluco be resolved with him appearing in the world of PSG.

A little update to the AniMenagerie schedule. Next week (6/20) we'll be finishing up the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai on Dragon Ball, watching the original Jotaro/DIO fight from the classic OVA, and watching...Ranma? Or going to bed early? And the week after (6/27) everyone will finally have to confront Keijo!!!!!! in all its glory, as we watch the final tournament straight through. Our July 4th celebration, as mentioned before, will feature the 90s Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat live action movies.

And, on July 11th, we'll be starting a brand new season! What's the theme for Season 5?

    f00w2e7tcnuq.png

Shoutouts to @Madican for inspiring the subtitle with a comment I've been thinking about for more than a year apparently. After focusing on the tournament arc last season, this time around we wanted to keep things as varied as possible. We picked six broad categories (Action, Comedy/Slice of Life, Fantasy, Horror/Suspense/Thriller, Sci-Fi, Sports) and took suggestions from myself, @Zonugal, @IronKnuckle's Ghost, @darunia106 and @Lars to fill out the schedule. When we noticed the lineup could be separated into those three blocks by sub-themes, we couldn't resist.

I'd be interested to see if anyone can pick out what categories they think each of the shows we picked were originally submitted as. Some shows were actually suggested by multiple people, and in different categories! Golden Boy wasn't an original suggestion either, it was a last minute addition by me to help even out some numbers.

And then I added a week-by-week schedule, because we've been winging that for like three seasons now, and it's caused way too much last minute scrambling. I crave organization.

We're going to go off schedule like one month in and I'm going to cry.

Also, now that we (I) have finished Battle Angel Alita and Akuma no Riddle for AniMenageRead Volume 1: Chapters 1-2, I'm also pleased to announce that we're beginning Chapter 3 this week. Our new manga: Billy Bat! I've heard this will be a wild one.

If you're interested in joining us for any of this, just ask for an invite here, PM me or Zonugal, or ping me on the PA Discord! Mondays, 8-11 PM Central, with subtitled shows Saturday nights at the same time! S Season 1 is somehow still going, even though we've watched five seasons of Symphogear already!!
