-- Jackie Chun destroyed the moon on Dragon Ball
-- We watched the JoJo OVA version of the fight between Jotaro vs Dio. It ruled, it was sick, I loved it.
-- We had extra time left over, so we watched a musical episode of Riverdale (ya know, that classic anime)
It's good!
as a bonus here's an edit of the dio and jotaro fight as it happens in real time
I’m not sure, is this form Goku’s in just the half baked form of Ultra Instinct he had before he did the full transformation or something else?

I don't care about any of these characters even a tiny bit, it's incredible
I love how nobody is making a fuss out of her situation
It's been very wholesome so far, curious where it goes.
Also her grandma has the right idea.

It's definitely a split cour show
Mother's Basement wasn't completely exaggerating on this point.

Guess I need to find some bloodlust or something.
I could be wrong though because uh, Birdie Wing, it's bloody insane.

LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOO
Oh hey, I read that manga.
It's pretty neat stuff!
Honestly, I will forever prefer a well executed example of its genre to some wacky premise that ends up flailing around, personally!
(I also appreciate that the aunt is just a trans lady and this is just not really some dramatic thing. She's just the standard Reliable Older Woman character archetype for the teenage protagonists to come to for girl advice)
Other possible bits of insanity:
The rocket launcher
Secret Technique: Just hit it real fucking hard so it smashes through the tree this is totally normal golf
Secret technique: a slice shot
Suddenly, a VR episode.
The extended homage to transforming mecha anime, except it's a transforming golf course.
The fact that the two main coaches are played by Amuro Ray and Char Anazable respectively as VAs.
...I'm sure there's more i'm forgetting

Shock!
Somewhat randomly started up Gargantia on Verderous Planet which two episodes in seems like it's got some real potential.
I like the art style and its mech design. It's like Universal Soldier in a mech lost on Waterworld.
World Peace is threatened! (I love this show and will be missing it so hard)
I am impressed at how much Inertia 67% captures the vibe of a group of disgusting college students. Like normally manga with that sorta premise are still like nah in the end we still want our cast to be adorable kids. Meanwhile I'm catching up and one of the recent chapters actually legit grossed me out. But also it's disgusting in a way that I could totally see my horrible friends doing in college.
And one of them's like lol I saw an article that said they make fake jizz in adult videos with egg whites and condensed milk, do we have condensed milk?
And then they mix up a big glass of fake jizz
And then of course they start daring each other to do shots of fake porn jizz...
At that point I'm basically gagging. Which, tbf, is what one of the characters does shortly afterwards. which then sprays fake porn jizz everywhere. Sooo Grooooss.
This being a disgusting college rental apartment I doubt it was cleaned properly either. The apartment's gonna smell like spoiled dairy.
Living With my Brother's Wife is such a weird series. I have no idea where any of this is going at this point. There's been like big fat chunks of queer subtext since forever but the manga seems totally dedicated to never going there, but also it's not really going anywhere else lately either? This series actually deserves the Tropical Fish Yearns for Snow Award for Achievements in Every Single Frame Being Hella Gay Without Ever Quite Saying Anything Explicit.
Speaking of which I reread A Tropical Fish Yearns for Snow. Well, the first like 2/3s. I'm still pretty convinced that somewhere around the halfway point an editor who hadn't been paying attention suddenly exclaimed in shock, "Wait, yuri means gay???" and told the author she was only allowed to write about cute friendship. Cuz god damn does the queer subtext in that series just run into an absolute brick wall out of nowhere. But until then it's just so nice, it reads a lot more like a western YA queer story than yuri typically does. Like it's not just about ohmigosh I like this one girl but we're not gonna examine anything beyond that, it does kind of head nod towards like, yes these are romantic feelings not just liking, and the characters are actually struggling to articulate their queer feelings and think about if they want to tell their friends or parents about them. Also it gets big points for having the most obviously genre savvy parents in any yuri series ever. Her dad is super obviously aware of what's up and keeps giving her like unthreatening chances to open conversations with him if she ever wants to tell him anything about her """friendship""" with her """new friend""" and you can just hear the massive quote marks he very carefully drops around those lines.
I just started reading Skip and Loafer since people seemed quite excited about the upcoming anime adaptation and so far it's pretty adorable. I actually really like how it's like not trying to reinvent the wheel or anything, it's just kinda a plucky nice but not that cool girl meets hot dude story, but the whole thing is just written with a bit more realism and depth to the characters, everyone's very charming, and it doesn't need to rely on melodrama (at least not yet??).
I also caught up on Insomniacs After School, which also has an anime adaptation in the works. Gonna be a nice year for like emotionally mature HS romance stories I guess? Insomniacs is interesting, there's that small mini YA genre of like "Young person falls in love with someone and then they die and it's very sad and they come of age through the grief." I don't THINK Insomniacs is interested in doing that plot, because it's just a bit smarter written than that and not inclined to melodrama. Instead it's more of like, this person I care about has a health condition and it means I always have to think about their mortality, and even though yeah it's a treated condition and they'll actually probably live a long time it's still a lot to deal with when you're like 17. Like I don't think this is a story about grief it's about deciding that the emotional labor of always being prepared for that grief is worth it. I think?
A new series, You and I are Polar Opposites, looks to be a lot of fun. I love the look and style of it. There's something kind of retro about it that reminds me oh His and Her Circumstances.
I'm really liking all the new series where the couple is couple within the first couple of chapters if not the very first chapter. The will the won't they thing that goes on for tens or hundred of chapters is just something I have long since run out of patience for.
Chamber is good people. Mecha best bro, GOAT

Fuck Joe Manchin
Content warning for the beach episode of Gargantia; there's a B-plot that goes full Yikes. It put a bad enough taste in my mouth that I dropped the series.
About 4 episodes in now. Haven't hit that episode but probably best to have the heads up. Knowing ahead of time weirdly will probably make it less likely to put me off it. I do best with the much older shows where it's just all out there. More so than a modern show that just finds a spot to slide something real off putting in there when you've otherwise been unambiguously enjoying something.
I mean last season one my early faves was Ranking of Kings and that weird anti-korean racism bit was a wild surprise
Do wish they'd done more to make Rustals turn to a bastard, bit with a heart feel more earned though

this has so much more of a "well, shit just got real" feeling than the innumerable "here comes the new toughest-guy-yet in GenericShonenXYZ" scenes, even though not an awful lot of combat has actually happened so far.
What an absolutely wonderful little series. Just wholesome as hell. It reminds me of Miyazaki complaining about how otaku don't write real people, they just rewrite stuff they've seen in anime. The characters in S&L feel very real, and they're all treated with tremendous empathy.
Probably write something longer later.
