I started watching Victory Gundam today. I was confused for most of the first episode and wondered if I'd picked the wrong one before realizing it was in media res and the next few episodes would be the proper beginning

I'm going to be cynical and assume that was swapped around to get the actual Gundam in the first episode aired

yup, like vegeta said, they put episode 4 into episode 1's slot on purpose to get to cool robot sooner. it is confusing!

I managed to watch five shows in the spring season, which is way more than I can usually keep track of. On top of AniMenagerie and other stray shows.

I need to get back to Healer Girl, I couldn't physically handle all the crying with my allergies and other issues the last few months. Some of these dozen new shows are gonna wind up dropped this summer, but I'm looking forward to checking them all out.

One page is literally copy/pasted from chapter 40, nearly 6 years ago. Bunch of other callbacks too, but that one page is just, 100% the same.
[edit]Nope, checked the JP pages - just 99% the same - lettering layout was redone for a couple of text boxes[/edit]

Hmm. I'm not quite sure how it'd work now, but I feel a final Shirogane-Fujiwara training chapter was promised far too recently to be dropped completely. (Okay chapter 224 came out April last year, but the training arc continuing was doubled down upon in the volume extras for volume 23, which came out well after the "planning for the end" hiatus around June that year.)

Well it’s more like the old bleach, they just never made an anime of this part.

    Getting a new Trigun too.

Which like, I couldn’t tell you if this Vash design or the first anime is more faithful to the manga but I will say I like the old one more.

Apparently they're working with Kubo on the show, so he can help them add details he didn't have time for. And they can, hopefully, edit out some of his time wasting.

as for the redesign, no, it's a big departure from both the manga and anime, but i dunno i don't immediately hate it? seems to look pretty good in motion at least

it feels very much like a, what if someone were creating trigun today, which, that's a valid angle to take i guess

it's just that the old look was so good, and it's a shame they're not taking advantage of it being 3d to get all those details in there

I’ve never seen Trigun, but as someone who grew up alongside other teens discovering anime, Trigun always looked cool as hell

Not sure I think this looks nearly as cool, purely from a design perspective? But the animation looks slick and honestly that carries a whole lot more weight for me than anything else

Also everything I’ve heard about the finale of Bleach was poor, but The Thousand-Year Blood War is objectively the coolest name for anything, so hopefully they can make that into something worthwhile? I dunno I have no investment in it but I do have a friend who was way into Bleach and I wish nothing but happiness for them

Only thing I want to see now before I make a final call on that animation is about 20 seconds of heavy action sequence, like say an active part of a fight. I know that's any area where promising 3D animation can fall apart badly (Hell, even some 2D animation falls apart just as badly). Otherwise, once I get past how different this is from what I'm used to in regards to Trigun, it's actually fairly solid animation, at least no non-heavy action scenes.

Teppen episode one is A LOT. It just never stops, even the OP and ED are hyperactive. I'm honestly not sure if I can handle a full season of it, it was exhausting.

Without excusing that one character, I think zeta has far worse low points than victory, because victory low points are still in service of the actual theme, unlike some of zeta's more dire moments

I got really excited for a bit, thinking I had somehow missed that the "high school girl Vegeta does MMA" manga had gotten an anime.

Turns out I was thinking of Teppu, which makes sense cause this world is broken and we cannot have nice things.

I wonder if that's one of the reasons they simplified it. With 2d you can omit details to keep shots from looking cluttered, but with 3d you'd always see the 50 some wrinkles in his coat, no matter the distance from the camera, making him harder to read.

You know how video games will swap out models that are far from the camera with less detailed ones? Although I'm not aware of any animation that does this, there's no reason that this couldn't be done in animation.

The funniest thing about Teppen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is that it's based on a manga called Teppen!!!, which is completely different and wholly unrelated to:

    The manga called Teppen.
    The other manga called Teppen.
The other other manga called Teppen.
    The manga called Teppen!
    The TV drama called Teppen.
    The variety show called Teppen.
The other variety show called Teppen.
    The variety show called Teppen!
The other variety show called Teppen!
    The Capcom gacha called Teppen.

It means "The Top" as in like, apex or summit.

It's been a while since I watched Zeta and also it's 50 episodes so it's hard to remember a lot of it - what would you say are its low points

    Zeta and vague victory stuff
without being explicit about victory, the biggest parallel people draw between the two is that there is a relatively high body count among women, but a lot of the deaths in zeta don't really serve the story

Remember all the rosamia shit, or how Emma dies
