Maybe I was being optimistic expecting any sort of resolution / pairing-up / etc, but as far as "last chapter"s go I feel like it could have had a _bit_ more to distinguish it from all the rest, I dunno.
I was a bit off an odd one out, as I didn't particularly care if the main two got together as I didn't think they were that good a match, and just because the dude likes her doesn't mean they should get together. This ending kind of fit the college students fucking around theme. Though yeah, it also easily could have just been any other regular chapter since nothing stood out as it being the ending. Could have at least have had the main girl have to move out of her apartment, as that had been the series' primary hangout spot.
    (edit: fixing quotes)
Yeah, I don't know that I necessarily wanted everything to be tied up and get them together or something like that, I agree it wouldn't have made a lot of sense -- but it did just kind of stop with another chapter just like the rest which felt a bit underwhelming.

Past seasons of Dan Machi were on Crunchyroll, but now it looks like it too is also a HiDive exclusive? Disappointing.

But I'm told competition is only good and everyone should be thankful.

    Super good.

Well it would be if Hidive wasnt trapped 30 years ago their app is horrible

It's also not available on PS4, last I checked.

Yes, now it's just Hidive. It was a steal at the time, now it's basically just old school anime like LotGH(which is admittedly much, MUCH cheaper than buying it in any way shape or form).

Yeah, that was a very unsatisfying ending. Pretty much another day in the life of without any kind of closure, resolution, or change in any way. More of rest of the cast doing dumb shit together would have been a much better way to end than what we got. It feels like the manga got axed as opposed to finding a natural ending point.

I didn't ever expect Nishida and Yoshizawa to ever get together as Yoshizawa never showed any real signs of seeing Nishida romantically or more than a friend in any way. She clearly knew he liked her and I think she enjoyed toying with him a bit. However, they were never going to get together or have anything close to casual sex. I'm not sure I would have liked to have seen Nishida give in to Tachikawa's advances but I did like the banter they had.

I still enjoyed the manga overall and I'm to miss having a manga about college aged adults just living their live as half-assed as possible.

    New Watamote chapter

This kinda chapter really shows off how good Nico is at creating unique characters and then setting them off against each other. Pretty much the whole chapter is Sachi, Mako, and Yuri sitting around chatting about Tomoki, but each of them is basically having a different conversation.

Sachi: I kinda wanna know about that cute boy, but as queen of the mean girls the only way I can ask for info is by sniping at these other two's love lives until I crush their spirits.
Maki: That boy is definitely not dating or hooking up with Yoshida, hahaha, I have no idea if he's dating someone except it's not Yoshida, I keep saying that even though I'm worried it might be true, I definitely don't have a crush on Yoshida!
Yuri: I'm probably on the spectrum and a hardcore introvert so I don't do subtext and the only reason I care about that guy is he's the brother of one of my friends, but I do like to talk about acting.

I feel like his collection of short stories Shiver is a good place to start, then maybe Uzumaki or Tomie. I actually enjoyed his version of Frankenstein, as well.

@initiatefailure if you're in the west / USA, there are excellent hardcover collections of Junji Ito's works being published by Viz on a regular basis. Go for any of his short story collections! I second Shiver, it's got a lot of his best stories and would also recommend Smashed. Also currently circulating are Venus in the Blind Spot, Lovesickness (half a long form story, half short stories) and Deserter, tho I'd skip that last one personally. It's Ito's earliest work, and it shows.

Then his longer form stuff is Uzumaki, Tomie and Gyo, they all got a hardcover book each. I would strongly recommend all 3, but only after you've read a short story collection and feel like you want a big meaty spooky time. Tomie in particular is very good, very long and very scary. And maybe save Gyo for last, it's pretty gross and probably off-putting for new readers...

No Longer Human and Frankenstein are both harder reads. Save them for later.

Everything else you might see like Remina and Sensor are smaller long form stories, and they tend to be good, but also not must reads IMO.

I would disagree that Frankenstein is at all a hard read, it's a very faithful rendition of the OG novel (and therefore very good and easy to read). Uzumaki is a great starting point to him in general because it starts rather small and escalates to total insanity at a good pace. Some of his short stories do this in like 20 pages, which is a lot.

Uzumaki almost starts out as a short story compilation around a central theme, but then starts to unify it all and escalate

Junji Ito is like the reverse Mura. Mura made Berserk and all the darkness in it as he battled with depression, whereas Junji Ito makes some of the most fucked up shit like Uzumaki and Gyo and enjoying every minute of it happy as a clam.

I do not think the Enigma of Amigara Fault is his best story but it is definitely the most "this is a Junji Ito story."

Also Ito has gone on record as being that the source of his stories come from him being an over-imaginative kid freaking himself out by misconstruing actually benign situations as being more sinister than they were.

I too enjoyed Kaguya, I watched it to fill gaps between Spy Fam episodes

Speaking of Spy Family, is that really the last episode for the season (ep 12)? I know they did the recap at the top but felt like a kinda frivolous episode to end on. They must be confident a S2 is happening and I mean, it only makes sense.

Oh it's definitely not his best work but it's one that has stuck with me the most. Possibly because it was the first thing I read of his, but also the whole a hole that fits them and only them. Whenever I think of Junji Ito the first things I think of are of scary holes of a specific shape and spirals.

    She's definitely kinda into him

But also it's Sachi she might be an actual sociopath, so it's not like you'd describe it as she likes him, exactly.

    Super good.

It was good when there were three competing services. You had sharing of a significant amount of content and things like the vrv/Hidive combo.

The funimation/crunchyroll merger and Sentai/Hidive getting bought by AMC killed any incentive for either to cooperate.

Why would competing companies cooperate? Cutting things into ribbons and making you pay piecemeal for everything is what competition is. That's maximizing shareholder value.

The idea that competition does anything but balkanize content is a holdover from the 00s. It's been pretty downhill ever since.

We're just lucky there is a general need for things to be in decent sized groupings for consumers to buy in or every studio would have their own sub service.
